I like how it shows him to be a badass and a nice guy all at once, he’s a well trained soldier but a good dad and sweet man. Arnold really got to show his nice side and heroic mannerisms in this. Arnie was the hero from Austria who America loved and still accepts today.

These are among the loveliest and most touching scenes between a father and daughter I've ever seen on film. The chemistry between Arnold and Alyssa, James Horner's score... Who would've thought of that from an over-the-top action movie? The scenes between Rocky and his son in Rocky IV (released the same year) are also touching - and inspiring.

I really love the scenes with John and Jenny early in this movie. Super sweet, amazing chemistry. Shows a very healthy relationship, with how Jenny's not timid about messing with him even though he's strong and muscular - they really are close, much closer than I was with my parents for example. Also sets the stakes super well for the rest of the movie, and it all is done in a very quick and compact manner. This movie gets memed about a lot but this intro is really, really good. And also, this is why backstory in the beginning is good. This movie would be much weaker without these moments with his daughter. We wouldn't care nearly as much.
It's great! Beats all the soy boy pussies of today.

I thought "Commando" was Alyssa Milano's first acting role before her "Who's The Boss?" TV sitcom. I was mistaken. Looking up the film's principal photography and shooting dates (which started April 1985), this was in fact done while "Boss" was on hiatus between its first and second seasons.

One thing I love about this scene is that John Matrix is actually a loving supportive father to his daughter. In most of these "Papa Wolf" stories (Taken, God of War, Big Jake, etc) the father tends to be distant, gruff, estranged, or even borderline abusive towards their kid.

There’s a saying, Single fathers raise stronger women. Single mothers raise stronger men. My Dad introduced me to this movie along with Predator and Terminator. He raised me with that tough love I will never forget. I was taught how to punch, kick, and use elbows and knees on his punching bag in our old basement. To learn how to defend myself as a women in this evil ass world we live in today. A father will protect his daughter at all costs, even beyond the grave. My Dad had told me multiple times to me, “There is gonna be a day were I am no longer gonna be here, I need you safe.” Harsh but it’s the inevitable truth. Watching the scene of Arnold his daughter bonding really made me cry out of love and missing my own father. I just moved out. I love you Dad ❤
