Good old days when your fathers had fought in WW2 or Korea. Picked up your copy of Warlord, or Battle comics, and then attending AIr Cadet’s on a Friday night to learn about aviation, and shoot a 2.2 of the Lee Enfield rifle on the in door range. If the Soviet Union ever had invaded they would have had to taken on Army, Air, Sea Cadet’s.

Thanks for the insight. I used to swap my donald duck comics for commando comis in the early 70s with my mates who had a subscription for commandos. I couldn't afford it. They had pretty much every issue up to the 1000 numbers and were sent 4 new stories every month. It seemed to us by that time the publishers were reprinting earlier stories again with different covers. I didnt particularly like the new artists at that time either. Some earlier edition artists were just brilliant artists, the detail quite accurate and in scale I thought while others were "comic like" and almost generic. To come up with a story must have been stressful at times! I sold most of mine but kept a few as momentos and I still from those years including no.98 "The valley of secret weapons" and though the cover is a little worn its readable

The high standard(sorry for so many posts)was because many artists were in WW2 so they could really draw it quite graphic..todays artists are crap compared to the old school
