oh mate just rug up and go.... I would need to ride it. take it slow 15 years is a long time but it all comes back I was 15 years as well I broke me foot and hip in the first year so take it slow and get all the right riding gear and enjoy.

Hi Sam, after few days going on trail and road my left peddle crank came off on 2 seperate occasions on the same ride. After a bush fix (10kms from home) I contacted Commencal and they attended to it straight away. A few days later i received an email from Commencal saying it was a factory issue with the Nm torque of the screws. Have you had any issues with your SX?

Sweet ride Sam! I picked up my new 2021 Orbea Wild FS M20 two days ago. I’ve not ridden her yet as put on invis and swapped bars, brakes and seat post so now running carbon bars, hope e4 brakes and reverb dropper. Also upgraded shifter and mech to seam x01. Most important thing is this is my first ever emtb! I’ve been watching your channel for about a month now and it’s one of the reasons i bought an ebike, along with Rob rides you two have some awesome content! Im thinking about starting making more KZbin videos to show my experience of my first emtb. Thanks for there inspiration! Rob

Oh! Looks like that was a lot of fun! Although we both a very different definition of "mud" .... Nice! New bike day is always a good day. I’m still in new bike mode and I’ve had my trek rail 7 since October And I have it dialed perfect. Took a while to get used to the weight but now using it to my advantage, very planted stable ride.

Hey mate im loving the SX as you understand, I have changed the Bars to Renthal phat 31.8 780mm in 20mm rise and Industry Nine 40mm stem in red also in 31.8 and DMR death grips. Its my go to set up on all my bikes.

Congrats Sam and thanks so much for sharing your NBD out of the box review!!! I pulled the trigger to get one meself and looking forward to receiving it in Feb! I was so tempted with the Ohlins version of the 29er but after weighing the pros and cons, I opted for the SX race instead. Looking to upgrade a few items too (saddle, handlebar, stem and pedals first and then we'll see)! By the way, have you had any issues with the non-drive side where the E13 crank arms may loosen or fall off? Fellow 2021 SX owners have been giving feedback on these issues in the UK and the US. Great video, I watched it twice! I'm about to drop some cheddar on the Meta Power TR Race but after watching this the longer travel (both 27&29) Meta ebikes are so enticing. I wonder how capable the TR will be at the occasional bike park and DH I might ride a few times a year with slightly less travel. The other trails I ride are a lot of ups and downs, which is why I think a trail bike makes more sense. Also, I've noticed the geometry #s for the Comms are always super low stack #. Even the larger sizes with 485 reach have the same stack #s, or even shorter than some other company's smaller frames! I haven't ridden anything with this super modern, slack geo, my last bike was a '17 Diamondback that I liked but it's time to upgrade. Can you explain what, if anything, that lower stack number feels like compared to say the Decoy with slightly less reach but higher stack? Thanks again for the vid! 😁🤟

Hey mate I think we need to chat haha, drop me a message on Facebook and more than happy to help. I was riding a XL decoy and now a L meta and also I changed my Decoy to a 27 and 180 up front so it was slack like 64. If you can go test something with modern geo, I think unless you want to go silly fast some of the modern geo can be a little boring, my SL has a reach of 455 and I love it super fun and fast and easy to change direction the SX is big loads of room for error and still fast harder to change direction but still get just different. If your going for a trail style ebike maybe size down but at the same time I dont see the benefit of having less travel on a ebike 160-180 is the sweet spot.

Waiting for my SX Signature - so fully stoked. Hopefully in US in Feb. Love the 27 play - just a fun bike - basically a killer enduro rig with a bonus motor. mate the first 6 weeks from going from an Enduro to a ebike I hated it but it was me just learning how to ride it. Its really so much fun and that really isn't a problem at all, trust its not the future its the now.

Gorgeous bike. I love commencals. Personally would have gone for the 29 for my riding but in reality I would struggle with the choice if handing over the cash right now. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with this. Particularly interested in the performance of the ZEBs, these are an upgrade that I have in mind for my Rail. Yep for me it was a hard choice but seeing I have the Levo SL I wanted a big big bike and this is amazing for that. the Zebs are very good I think definitely worth the upgrade

Wow old school I would say you need to go a XL buy coming from a very old bike that will feel massive you could ride a L or A XL I personally would go the XL you will get used to it and laugh when you get back on your baby bike 🏍

Sam, thanks for the review. Been waiting for the (hopefully) new EP8 YT Decoy vs. this Commencal. Ridden the YT mullet a number of times and despite being an Enduro (very stable downhill), its ok for trail use as well. Would you say the Commencal is less versatile than the YT?

Hey Martin thanks for the kind words, defo testing the meta with a 29 front with 170mm of travel it should keep the geo numbers right. also already have my rear 27 I9 on it waiting to see if I want to run it as a mullet or a 27. I must say it rides very will as a 27 but I love to test so lets see.

Nice one bro! Happy I could help, I would look at upgrading the brakes to shimano or magura and the tires to more dh style casing so you don’t get punchers out on the trails. I’m riding eddy currents and magic marrys both good opinions but for a trail bike maybe eddys are better. Enjoy it’s bro and send me a photo!

defo its a big big mountain ebike but it works fine at my local trails which are not big at all. Yes you can mullet the 29 but not 100% it might drop the bb to much.

Sam, firstly loving the channel, keep up the work mate. I am looking to get a new e-bike, and am torn between the Commencal Meta Power SX Race, and the YT Decoy Pro Race. They are both approx the same cost for me here in NZ, so that is not a problem for me. The issue for me is the motor/battery combo. I prefer the Decoy by a very small margin, but are slightly put off by the E8000 and the YT battery. I have now seen a couple of reviews, which have stated that they have not noticed any appreciable difference between the EP8 and the E8000. What are your thoughts?

Awesome bike!!!!. i'm in love with it. I have a cuestion. Can you ride this SX or any e-commencal (new frame) without the battery? I mean, in case you run out of Power, can you dismount the battery and ride? The reason is becase that way you reduce a little bit of weight. Can they frame works like this?

Mate is a epic bike and im sure you will love it. I'm not 100% but I think you could ride the bike without the Battery and I think you are thinking like I once did it will be more fun with less weight. I did it once and it wasn't haha. It puts your suspension out because your changing 4-7kg of weight and I like to have the motor on on the DH in boast so if I need a quick pedal I have the power right there.

Hey Sam, great channel and review! My partner and me are in the market for our first ebike and we are considering some options: Meta SX 27, Canyon TorqueON 9, Propain EKANO and YT Decoy Shred. Both similar but different too. We are leaning towards the Meta because of your review and the mainly the 630 battery....do you think the battery is a game changer in this case? We live en Madrid too, in the outskirts, and we ride similar trails as in El Pardo or El Escorial. Your comments are important for us! So, will be watching for yours...Thanks!

Hey Sam, Great video. I'm looking at the same bike but the high stand over height has me worried. Did you feel like the seat when slammed was still ever in your way? I ride super steep trails and like to throw my bike around when jumping so usually I want a low stand over so I know that seat never sends me OTB.

@@SamsBikes With the Cane Creek angleset you can go steeper or slacker in 0.5 degree increments up to 1.5 degrees, it would be great to know how this changes the feeling of the bike at the extremes. I love your idea of putting a 29 with 170 up front though. I was considering buying the 29 and putting a 27.5 on the rear, and, if Commencal would sell me one, put a SX rear triangle on, but no!! they did hint that a mullet might be on the way though so lets see what the future brings.

Bikes looks great , for me was between the sx and the decoy I went with the decoy because of the mullet option. I was really hoping for the new SX to be a mullet and I was actually disappointed.

Hi Sam, first time I seen your videos. I currently ride an older style 2017 Meta Power which I punish all over the Wollongong Escarpment. I was thinking about getting a new Merida Mullet as most of my mates now have them as they have a better back up with the local dealers than Commercial. I just had a look at the new Commercial range and I must say even with the sometimes poor back up service I have had with Commercial, I think I’m going for the 27. Is yours the mid range Race Model? They are $11,000 here where the model below is around $9000. I guess you not ridden the lower spec model, but I’m not sure which to get. I’m 63 and a pretty competent rider, 3 metre gap jumps, two metre or so ladder drops etc.Ride all the downhill at Thredbo and most around Wollongong so I’m not riding fire trails, more enduro and downhill stuff. So my question is would the cheaper SX suit my kind of riding as my old Meta does well, or should I go the same spec as you? $2000 plus is a lot of money. So confused, don’t want to buy the wrong bike.

Hey mate I always think the middle spec model is the best value for a good rider which sounds like you are! The basic one always just costs you as much as you start to upgrade stuff! If you were a total beginner then it’s fine but I think you will like the better suspension

Hi Sam, I'm about to pull the trigger on a E-bike and have 2 in mind: 2021 Commencal Meta power SX Signature 27, or the YT Decoy Elite 27 as well. What would you pick since prices are similar? I am leaning more towards the Commencal as it has a bigger battery, and I'm cautious about YT's battery (service time if it goes...) but have noticed from reviews and geometry numbers that the seat tube is quite high on the Meta. Would you recommend I ride a Large if i picked the Meta (I'm 178cm or 5'11") or a Medium? I don't care too much about being the fastest, and love to jump and riding bike parks.

Hey Sam, one more question buddy, sorry. I have 200mm front and back on my Decoy. I weigh about 210lbs (95 kgs). Do you think it would be beneficial for me to switch to 220mm up front? Or maybe front and back?

Mate it really depends on how long your downhills are the bigger rotors do give you more stopping power but more for them to dissipate heat quicker. No harm on trying. If I’m 100% honest I haven’t really noticed any difference.

Hey Sam! Thank you!!! Really considering this eBike. Actually, will probably spend the extra $700 for the Signature for better components. I have a 2017 Santa Cruz Nomad series 4 now. Not an eBike. I LOVE IT! But riding less and less now as friends are not wanting to go to the Bike Parks as much anymore, so doing more and more trial rides. Since my friends are younger and in better shape, and on 150 travel bikes, they are leaving me in the dust on the climbs. 🙄. Clearly this bike here is closer to the Nomad than their “more ...” trail bike set ups. But does having a motor make up for that, and therefore I would get to keep that feel of my Nomad, even though I may not use all that suspension as much, or do I begrudgingly consider more of a trail bike. I’m pretty much set on this one, but wonder your thoughts. Trying for 1 bike for all! Lastly, size? I’m 6’ 1/2”. I ride an XL Nomad, but felt fine on a Large Specialized Levo Demo that I rode yesterday. Was perfect. I know Specialized are larger, Santa Cruz smaller. Commencal? What size do you think? I prefer more cockpit than less, but don’t want too much.

Hey Shaun defo this bike a great option for you. I have found it a great all round ebike with more in the tank if you want to push it harder. as far as sizing goes. I'm 183cm and riding a Large and I find it nice I could ride a XL but I'm very happy with the size not to long

hey mate its very easy so change the bars just like normal but you need to run the cable along the bar inner.

G'day Sam I am tossing up whether to get a Commencal Meta Power 29 or the 27 (SX) I am 194cm ( heard that you are 183cm) I am mainly riding in Dallas Texas which isn't super hilly and the trails are more XC or just trail, although they are adding more jump lines and features since mtb is getting so popular here. I prefer 29er wheels because as a former MXer I am used to pushing a bike through the corners. I am currently riding a regular pedal mtb on 27.5's and find myself wishing I had never sold my 29er, as I find that I am cutting the corners tighter and ending up on the inside of the exits too much, although I am starting to get used to that. But I really miss the speed of rolling with the 29er wheels, although I figure with pedal assist I might help with the speed portion? I what a big hitter of a bike because I don't mind the weight penalty or long travel as I get out to California or Colorado a few times a year and what something that is fun heading down some decent hills. There's a 6mo wait for the 29er or a 2 week wait for the 27.5 - what you recommend since you've ridden both? Thanks

Hey mate I haven’t ridden both only the SX but I have ridden the decoy 29 which is similar well with all the changes I would of made 170-155 29er with 64 degree head angle yes please!!! I personally think you will be better on the 29 your a big guy and it will just fit you better! Saying that I’m about to mullet the sx and see how it Holds up! I’ll drop the suspension to 170 so the geo should stay in check! Video will drop soon!

@@SamsBikes thanks. I will probably wait for the 29er. I was thinking of even running a mullet version of the 29er, so the head angle will get slacker and the longer chain stays will add stability, but the smaller diameter of rotating mass on the rear will still allow the rear to react quicker.

Hi, can you tell me what came in the box apart from bike as mine came yesterday and unfortunately the box was in bits and had a hole in side of it & bits everywhere inside! bike ok but no bleed kit for suspension/ Brakes like my last bike had in box.... got it from chain reaction in Uk and it was not in a commencal box and was packed really Shit to be honest!

IMO the climbing price is only that significant on a non ebike.. I blame the confused marketing BS of the last few years. It's a hangover from non ebikes and applying the same thinking which I'm guilty of myself in the past but the reality is I can climb anything on my 23Kg Enduro ebike i can on my non E XC Bike. So that's what's great about Ebikes.. they remove many of the classic compromises required for normal MTB.

When climbing with trail oriented ebikes, you´d see how you´d get behind, and while trying to catch them, you´d consume way more battery than they are. Anyhow, as they say, their is no perfect machine, only preferences.

However other than tyres it's all mainly down to weight (Energy required to lift 1kg 1M etc)... sorry to get technical but there is no magic just cold hard numbers...... So lets compare the weight differences... This MPSX Vs Spec SL using a the same rider. 90Kg Rider + 22Kg Bike = 112 Kg 90Kg Rider + 17 Kg Bike = 107 Kg So the SX requires 4.6% More energy.. yes I'm using a 90Kg rider but I don't think most Ebikers are racing whippets. The SX battery capacity is 630 Wh and the SL is 320 Wh or 480 with the addon.... so both bikes keeping the SAME PACE the SX will actually significantly out range the SL in either configuration. So even with this extreme example with a really big bike weight difference keeping SAME pace you're only using ~4.6% more energy.. when your even closer in weight for more comparable bikes you're talking even smaller differences. 4.6% is a big differential for unassisted as that's all rider effort.. but not so on assisted as the motor can pick up that slack and as can be seen it's at worst it's a 4.6% range reduction Vs one of the lightest E trail bike. Only time it would really make much difference is above the assist limit when your unassisted.

@@RocketMagnetUK good numbers!, i would also add the SAG and geometry effect while pedaling. As a matter of comparison i have a Turbo Levo with flip Chip that can change geometry in 1,5 degree the head tube angle. With that tiny change (being the rest constant) i record around a 1-2 min slower on a 30 min uphill (500 Mts climb on a 5km ride uphill). I guess is hard to isolate the rest of the effects but as a context, i live by high mountains where you climb 2,000 Mts by riding 20km uphill. As average i do 30Km rides with a 1,500 Mts climb, and you can notice clearly the guys that are doing a hard job while climbing. Summing all effects you may find yourself riding at least 10-15% slower than your buddies and that is pretty annoying for all!. Anyhow, i agree in the fact that while going down, you´d enjoy much more the enduro geometry than a trail one, specially when you have steep downhills.

Mate I say go give a SL a ride and test a full fat ebike both are great but very different. the SL is 17kg but you dont get the same power so you need to take the good with the bad.
