PumpkinHead for better explanation: in the yugioh R manga (big distinction) they established what was called a god hierarchy. Normal monsters would have god hierarchy 0, slifer obelisk, and their wicked counterparts had a god hierarchy of one, and ra and his counterpart had 2. Only monster of the same level or higher could destroy the card and since ra is 2 nothing can touch him

I think you are being a little facetious with the term "lockdown". I mean, the guy who made the comment clearly has no idea what the hell he is talking about, but I think most duelists know about what you mean when you say "lockdown". It generally refers to one of two general styles of decks, not any specific decks or cards. Either "Your cards are now useless" or "I'll just negate anything you play". Both of which feel like dueling your IRS agent.

Problem is; a card like this shouldn't cause such an uproar. It pretty much shuts out monsters from being relevant, in a game where the only thing that's become relevant is the monsters. That was the principal when the "Enchantress" and "Lands" decks were made in Legacy Magic. They didn't break the format or re-shape the meta. They became a thorn in people's sides that people had to re-tool their decks to become less linear, sideboard and all. Instead of a 15 card sideboard where 9 cards in it were in there just to deal with a single match-up, it's 2-3 (making the Yu-Gi-Oh to Magic comparison). This card should by no means be banned, though it is really powerful and poorly designed. The same could be said of Moat or Tabernacle of Pendrell Vale and the game has gone on just fine regardless. I do agree that people are whining a bit too much on this one.

The problem with mystic mine is that it's a single card which forces you to make your deck really inconsistent and still requiring huge amounts of luck to out. Jesse Kotton made that funny tweet about Mine and still ran only 5 outs in Main+Side overall. Which puts you at a 10% chance of actually being able to beat the mystic mine board before it sets up all negates.

i think we need to understand the fact that: Most people in the meta are those with urge to win as often as possible. Get in to the tournaments and achieve something. "FUN" is something that is less important than the "WIN" for them (not saying no at all, just less important). They're skillful, no matter how bad the meta is, they adapt pretty well. I think Mystic Mine is bad for the meta because unlike casual environment, Meta environment is more defined and Mystic mine just shut more than half of them down, and that is how it tops. (as an anti-meta deck). However in more casual realm of yugioh, since more people are rather trying to have some fun time with their friends than keep winning all the time, this card can be something... different. Some group of people just can't take it and refuse to play against this type of deck. Leave the person who play the deck alone and not having "fun". Anyways... there are also some other trolls out there lurking in YGOpro who play this card and trashing all those 'meta sheep" . Having satisfaction by making people feeling bad about their decks. Well these all are based on my personal experience and perspective. Some people might have different experience and i respect that.

Well, even if both players have 3 negates and 3 hand traps each, it is at the moment pretty interactive. People started to play through negates and continue. It's not negate-meta, but consistency-meta. And that's why Mystic Mine is harmful. It basically promotes the opposite, a meta of no interaction, worst-case-scenario would equal Danger!Dark World FTK.

There was a time, years ago, when traps and backrow meant more for the game. There was a time when seeing your opponent set five was scary, you had to wonder whether one of them was one of the solemn brigade, or torrential tribute, truly strong cards...but today, them and every single card you have to wait and set is at a true disadvantage. Thunder dragons can shut them down fully with denko sekka. Salamangreat has rage, which allows them to pop backrow infinitely because they can keep on setting and using it. Sky striker can also recycle, along with multi role, which means even if they can only pop one, they can't activate in response. The game had passed traps, and by extension true backrow decks by because as it stands, simple traps and spells cannot be expected to survive when you set them down. A whole facet of strategy is getting pushed out of yu-gi-oh and no one is really against it, everyones fine with it...but I never was. I have played a burn deck for two years now. I got spit on for it long before Mystic Mine existed. I will not argue that Mystic Mine is fair...but to me, its existence in this game was inevitable. At this moment almost every deck, on their first turn can pull out multiple backrow destruction, not through spells or other traps...but by abusing monster affects again and again and again. I do not hate Mystic Mines existence. I play it. I play damaged versions I got on the first day it came out, because asshole who hadn't even played against it keyed those cards. If anything I hate that it is a field spell...because if it was anything else I don't think people would care so much. Thats just my opinion. I could be wrong.

The problem I had with traps back in like HAT format, was around then, a lot of backrow was played regardless, which made it very hard to play yugioh. The only thing I wanted was a mass removal card for backrow, yeah we got twin twisters, but if you didn't know you were going against HAT (as it could set 5 and pass often), well...you got punished for making "smart plays". Then hand traps (the monsters) started taking over the role of traps, which is not the direction yugioh should had gone. The new generation of hand traps essentially replaced trap cards. Then when Konami saw players not running any trap cards because of hand traps, they gave us cards like Evenly Matched and Impermanence. Which is how traps should had evolved anyways instead of giving the role to monsters.

Backrow heavy or not you still have to play around the possibility of traps - just because they don't have to be set first giving you a heads up doesn't mean anything. hey still exist. So not much has changed except you don't see your opponent setting them. Big deal. The game still has the same dynamics. Also Eldlich exists now. Traps are back. The game changes over time and that is a good thing. Fusion, ritual, tribute summoning - all came back into the meta 10 years after going out of favor then left again. Do you go out at night and complain about how "they" got rid of the sun and how you remember when it was light outside? No you just wait for the dawn and occupy yourself with nighttime activities.

@@sierrasanders1048 Thank you for the spirited reply so long after the comment itself. I will say one thing in reply to your message because I do heavily disagree with one or two sentiments. First of all, having to set a card and wait before it can be used, and having it live in your hand on either your turn or your opponents is a massive, MASSIVE difference in mechanics and use. A card like impermanence would be massively different if it could not be used from the hand and acted more like an actual trap compared to to setting it down, having itself be vulnerable, and then picking the time to use it. Secondly, traps have only scraped by in the meta by becoming what they shouldn't be. Most of the traps in the meta right now can be used from the hand, are insanely powerful and require a lot less strategy than old traps did, and while you have to "play around" old school trap based boards, every extra deck plays Knightmare Phoenix of something that acts like that. Almost everybody plays some host of negate monsters. Traps as they are in terms of game mechanics can't really be what they were. Also, I don't really count eldlitch as a trap deck, since without the main boss monster it would be crap. Traps should be able to stand by themselves, like Paleozoics. To end all this, I'll use what you said at the end. Its not that I go out at night and complain that they got rid of the sun and that I remember when it was light outside, its that right now the sun has been replaced by lampposts and I'm waiting outside for the sun to come up, but as it stands unless your traps are obscenely powerful, don't work like traps should, or can just be used from the hand, I mean, are you really going to argue that there's really a huge difference between using a monster cards effect from hand at any time versus using a trap that allows you the same? Either way, I wrote my old opinion about a year ago. I still stand by a fair bit of it. Mystic Mine is still in the game. Maybe your right and someday real backrow will have its time in the meta, but I think we've shifted to the point where traps, spells and monsters have become homogeneous in a lot of ways. Here's a thing with Mystic Mine decks. People like me who play the deck have counters to cards/counters that would destroy Mystic Mine. We run Dark Bride, Solemn Judgement, Field Barrier, Dark Sacrifice, Metaverse etc. The more I played the deck, the more I began to realize that simply having Spell/Trap removal isn't always a guarantee win against the deck, if you do have the cards to get rid of it. The deck is too good not to be meta, or at the very least top some events.

I see your point and i don't know that much about Orcust, so it might be worth it. On the other hand i feel like it is not necessarily a nice thing to have your ATK halved on all of your monsters. The next problem i see is that your opponent only needs to loose his tokens, he could just link them away before activating his Cave, so he might just have like 1 monster and you have the same problem as before, you would have to reset your whole field to have him more or equal monsters via Tokens. Why would he activate the Cave via Metaverse, when he sees you activated the Garden? And even if you create a scenario in which his Cave is on the Board, expect him to just set the 2nd copy the second he feels the urge to get rid of it's effects. Expect so see the Cave in a Deck full of annoying traps to burn you, prevent you from attacking and benefitting from running multiple Cards of Demise.

There's pretty much no in-between with this card; a deck would either have a positive matchup against Mystic Mine or have a difficult if not impossible time playing against it while scrambling to have their outs ready. You're either True Draco or Sky Strikers who can maneuver around Mystic Mine well, a rogue deck that is rarely considered meta that happens to do well against it, or you have to waste resources against a single deck as opposed to better alternative options against other relevant decks just to stand a chance. But the worst part, and why I believe Mystic Mine is almost impossible for the meta to adapt to, is that Mystic Mine can easily run countermeasures or even adapt back! Almost every single possible strategy that someone can side in to fight against Mystic Mine can be sided or even mained against with almost no change in consistency. Backrow removal like Twin Twisters and MST have to get over Dark Sacrifice and Beat Cop. Unending Nightmares and Imperial Order are outed by Dinomiscus. Royal Decree can't protect against Wave-Motion Cannon. Prime Material Dragon and Des Wombat are removed by Ring of Destruction. Other possible outs like Cosmic Cyclone can be negated by Dark Bribe and Solemn Judgement. All of this is ON TOP OF having a consistent method of grabbing Mystic Mine almost whenever you please. This looks like the same argument as siding Twin Twisters for Mystic Mine, but here's the difference: Mystic Mine can afford running most/all of their counter techs without sacrificing their matchups; most meta decks can't. All of these outs I listed are freely either mained or sided by Mystic Mine decks without any real inconvenience, whereas the meta is forced to run a minimum of 4-5 potential outs in their deck in order to stand a fair chance against them, which they most of the time cannot afford, while Mystic Mine easily can afford running countermeasures against just about anything. tl;dr, there's no real defense for this Field Spell. It's one of the few examples of a single meta-breaking card.

A funny and effective way to out mine was to hit it with a vosmic cyclone while they had a face up field barrier. Field Barrier doesn't protect against banishing and as long as its on the field you cant activate new field spells. It's basically an auto win against Mine stall decks if they dont have a solemn to answer it

This deck is unhealthy because of how it changes the way people play the game, it's actually meta shaking. The deck does not hard die to backrow removal it has ways to protect or replace its field spell. So a lot of the time siding in the TT or Reboots or MST doesn't guarantee the win and that makes you have to hard counter with enough removal or pray you don't run into it. Especially in a format that does a lot of monster climbing and primarily uses monster effects for their outs. BUT if you build your deck and side board to hard counter a deck like this it creates difficulty when you go up against the other decks in the game. So either you hard counter and don't top because of the other match ups, or you dont hard counter and cry when you see the match up. You need to find the balance and pray it works. It's a deck that doesn't allow you to ignore it. Maybe Konami released it to take us out of the monster climbing format or maybe it was a mistake, but either way you would be a fool to not take the deck seriously.

Its not stun decks that are abusing it, but burn decks, and thats unhealthy for a format. Having a burn deck that is burning you through out the game, a race to see who can the deal the damage quicker is fine and adds a different style to the game (Timelords have been a thing), but this card makes it so your opponent cant react, and thats unhealthy. Banning summon sorc I think was a gateway for future cards coming out she was going to get hit sooner or later but now cards like needlefiber can come to the tcg now that she is gone. It makes it so those toolbox monster decks don't have any easy stepping later, they have to slow down and think. The format is always changing, but this deck cannot be ignored, I can understand a deck that burns quickly and you have to think fast for an out, thats cool but this one... Doesn't let you act without back row removal, and its not enough to shut the down the deck. Just not healthy!

monster focused decks have some of the easiest sides for it even though they have the worst inherent match up, fog blades, denko sekka, backrow removal you played for striker and salad anyway, decks without denko may have a harder time but they often have more backrow hate & more in general they can pull from the maindeck, it is extremely powerful but you don't need to compromise your side just to have a chance.

For the Bad Reaction comment, I think the person misread the card as going both ways. In other words, that they thought it both switched recovery into damage, and switched damage into recovery. That did give me a thought though of a similar card, and while I'm not a competitive player, I am curious if it would be a good side deck card or not (so I would like peoples thoughts). Prime Material Dragon, it has has an effect that does switch Life Point damage into recovery. That effect is also a Continuous Effect meaning it doesn't activate, it's just applied. (Mystic Mine only prevents effects from activating, since it doesn't negate, it cant do anything about Prime Material Dragon's damage reversal effect) Any thoughts on if this would be decent or not? EDIT: Possibly better card popped into my head, Horus LV6 (again, would like feedback). Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6. It has a Continuous Effect that makes it immune to Spell Cards, meaning that it should still be able to attack while under Mystic Mine, and since (from what was said in the video) they don't run monsters, you should just be able to kill them in a couple turns of attacking directly with it.

Prime Material does work against burn even under mystic mine so if you can get it out you'll win that game - though they'll probably side some things to try to get rid of it next duel Horus Lv6 doesn't work as a counter because mystic mine doesn't affect your monsters - it affects the player and prevents them from being able to declare attacks at all or activate effects at all That's why cards they say "unaffected by other card's effects" like blackwing full armour master still get locked down by mystic mine Still both pretty good ideas though

Mystic Mine affects the player not the monsters, think of it like swords of revealing light. Also, if you run pendulums, you could technically pendulum summon Prime Material Dragon and tell the opponent to screw off.

I think the comment was misinterpreted.... He said it took strategy to maneuver around, not to play it. But he's still wrong since all you have to do is mst it. Personally I'm ok with this semi-limited since, I feel, that people rely on monster effects too much and this card will facilitate other decks to be playable (obviously burn but) instead of Konami trying to print out archetype specific cards to support slow archetypes they could just print this one card. This might also slowdown the power creep of future cards that make other cards "too slow" to consider playing. However I do see the problem that all decks that use this card will try to protect it and make the game too slow, but I have a feeling that the players will be able to adapt. When I say rely on monster effects I'm saying that players are usually building decks around furthering their own plays and then throwing 3 droll / cherry / combination of hand traps to disallow their opponent from setting up first turn and personally I dislike that and want players to actively choose from a wider variety of ways to counter the opponent. Maybe it's just me stuck in the past, but I feel like everyone should give this a shot before shooting it down.
