Hey there Ryan! I took that whole flight with you last night on my big screen TV. Thanks for the narrated trip around some familiar hang gliding terrain. Super interesting talk about all the precision things a commercial pilot has to be concerned with. There was a great view of the huge new solar array on the north end approach to Resnick airport, Ellenville. I always liked that giant field and once picked up Allegra Davidson there with her hang glider. Smaller LZ now. You have a knack for this! -Al-

Hi Ryan, I soloed in a DA20 about 20 years ago but never continued to my PPL. Now that I'm retired and with more time to spare I was looking forward to getting my PPL. I live 40 minutes away in NJ. How is Orange County and the facilities for a place to get back to training? I'm looking to train in a DA40 NG. When I used to fly, it was only six packs. That Garmin G1000 is a huge improvement to flying.

Great video with DA40! Im doing my commercial in a DA40 in Orlando and this is perfect! Double perfect. I love your video - very professional. What's your setup for the forward looking inside camera? I've tried to zoom in on how you mounted it at eye level, but looks like you have two mounting points. Could you share the gear you used and how you mounted (even a picture?) thanks!!!!

Thanks so much, great to hear you enjoyed and found it helpful! The forward facing camera is mounted with a mini clamp and adjustable arm, and it's clamped to the silver handle on the ceiling. I have that GoPro in a little camera-cage so I can attach filters easier (ND filter to get smooth prop blur and so the G1000 doesn't flicker on camera) and the cage has a bunch of threaded holes to screw mounts into but I think I just used a tripod adapter with the usual GoPro mount on the bottom of the cage (mounted upside down). That clamp works great in the DA40's because of that handle up there! You might notice I also ran the wires to the camera (power and audio) through that handle, that way the weight of the wires aren't pulling on the camera, and if I hit turbulence they're less likely to come unplugged. Learned the hard way so maybe that will save you some trouble :-)

Question: I just got my IFR in a C172 G1000, I could do my commercial in the DA40NG how lengthy of a transition would it be to learn the DA40? How’s landing compared to the 172? Should I stick with the 172 or switch to the diamond? Thanks.

​@javev1772 I did IFR in C172SP w G1000. I then switched to the DA40NG. The DA40ng is exactly the same G1000 usually and the same buttonology. The plus side with the ng is the fadec. SO NICE... and the low wing makes for beautiful landings

Check out Nflightcam.com for mounts that can go anywhere there’s a screw. I use the ones out by the winglet, works great! I also have a mount that just gets taped to the plane- I use high quality gaffers tape and ensure it’s super solidly attached and won’t adversely effect the flight controls.

@@AnguoChen mostly good. Loved the DA40, and the location (non-towered airport, but near towered fields and easy reach of NY and Albany airspace). Those are probably the biggest reasons to choose that school over another. Although the school owner and airport manager are enemies which can create some annoying friction at times 😂

@@AnguoChen the biggest tip I can give is stay on top of the online course and home studying. They try to save you time & money by basically having you teach yourself and then when you fly with an instructor you try it out and they check for understanding. It’s pretty tough to be honest, but considering instructors are still learning too it’s a whole system built to minimize how good of a “teacher” flight instructors need to be. They are pilots first and teachers second, if that makes sense. Follow the syllabus so you know what you’re doing in the next flight lesson and always show up ready to rock it and you’ll do great. Oh- and write down questions as they come up in studying so you don’t forget and can ask an instructor- and ask for the reference so you’re not taking their word for it, but learning where to look up future similar questions 👍
