I have a question. My roof has a 4/12 slope. It currently has shingles. (SW Florida). Can I use such a roof membrane instead of shingles? A self-stick underlayment and top sheet would be easier to install. To me, it makes no sense to use thousands of nails on a shingle roof to have a watertight roof. Then you also have to worry about hurricanes blowing off shingles. So, why not use a membrane instead of shingles?

I would use a 1mm metal roofing in a typhoon prone area. To many weak points in a shingle roof. Wood substrate... nope. I would actually recommend a insulated metal roof panel. Steel roof is so much lighter then all that asphalt and substrate wood and nails.

@@vi683a I live in Jamaica and have been through 3 hurricanes above category 3. The shingles are still standing almost 30 years later

Florida is very regulated. Use shingles. The nails are all under shingles. Or metal if you have the money

@@876beauty I would say then you either you're in a protected area with low negative win load pressure, or the orientation of your roof is conducive to a higher integrity of adherence. Shingled roof weak points are weight, construction design, thermal mass, recycling, leakage points. Either way. Well done.

Why do you use black cap instead of white granulated?

My question to you. Why did you remove the old spider crack roofing material before applying the new material?

Even i, as a laymen, might have put the flashing over the membrane, but i would have researched it first also.
