Here's a weird rule: during the 1970s, the A's used to have "designated runners" who never played any position, they would only show up late in the game to be base runners. They'd hire track-and-field stars and only teach them when to attempt to steal a base. Since baseball allows pinch runners, this is not against the rules. But if the game went into extra innings, those runners might have to end up batting, so the practice died off.

No, they can't award an arbitrary number of points. The equitable penalty rules (which apply to unfair acts in all the major codes, not just NFL's) allow for the award of a score if a team is deprived of one by an unfair act. So it has to be a score that could've come up in that play. But these "God" decisions are very rare in American and Canadian football. Know where they aren't so rare? Rugby. In rugby the referee can award a score if an illegal act -- really any rules violation -- deprived a team of a "probable" one; in American and Canadian football, it has to be a damn near certainty that they would've scored had it not been for a cheat of a kind that doesn't ordinarily come up in play.

If I remember correctly, after the Patriots kicked their field goal, the Dolphins moved the ball downfield and attempted to kick a field goal. At that point, the Patriots offered to plow a spot for the Dolphins holder to place the ball on dry ground, but Don Shula refused and the kicker missed the attempt. I don't see how using the snowplow would be "palpably" unfair if the Dolphins came into a situation where they could have had the ground plowed in the exact same way, were offered the opportunity to do so, and just refused to. I guess if the Dolphins were trying a longer field goal, they could try arguing that the snowplow shouldn't have been used at all, and neither team should have scored, but that's stretching it a little, since using the snowplow in such manner wasn't yet specifically against the rules.

I'm 35 years old. I vividly remember a football game that happened in my childhood, that I'm 99% sure was NFL, where a team was awarded an automatic touchdown on a kickoff for a tripping penalty by a kicker on a kick returner. The justification being that the kicker was the only defender left between the returner and the endzone. Can anyone verify whether or not this actually happened or am I crazy?

Like Seth was talking about: There actually was a guy in MMA who didn't shower his entire training camp before his fight. He ended up losing.

There's a smell rule in other competitions, specifically in Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments! You have to not smell like rot to play in Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments!

Haha smallpox wouldn’t that be a riot...imagine if a player had a SUPER contagious disease and knew about it and still went out to play? Imagine if they skipped some sort of testing and were able to sneak out onto the field? Boy, that would be wild huh. Good thing our reality isn’t that demented. Right?

That was Herm Edwards that blocked a field goal at the goal post. That's when they came up with field goals can only be contested from the line of scrimmage

"Highly contagious" Well that didn't age well. Especially with so many people refusing to wear masks or even get vaccinated in the top tiers of sports.

I do just want to point out that the "helmet to helmet pass interference" no call in the Saints game did directly affect the chance of the Saints going to the Super Bowl. I know that "they could've done it in OT" and all that bullshit but the point is the game never should have gone to OT in the first place!

blown call that gave the Rams a second chance to win the game, it's amazing how everyone dismisses the complaint.
@JoseDiaz-wk2tw5 жыл бұрын
Mark Davis there’s plenty of blown calls, no one is denying that, and everyone understands it’s part of the game, but a call that bad, so obvious should never happen, especially in a game with a trip to the superbowl on the line. Wtf is the ref paid to do? Make calls, and calls that obvious should be called 100% of the time. Worst part of all is that if that call was made, the Saints would’ve run out the clock kicked a field goal and won the game. There’s obviously going to be outrage over that, that call didn’t just hurt the game, it hurt legacy. Bottom line, all NFL fans should be outraged that a blown call that obvious was missed in a championship game. Even a non fan makes that call.

6.32 - This actually has been done regularly by an MMA fighter named Shonie Carter. He was a striker and would routinely go a week or so without bathing before a fight. Not only does it make him smell bad, it also made his skin greasy and more difficult to grapple with.

Kinda crazy we got to see the scenario of what life would be like if an entire team had a contagious sickness lol
@richardwetzeliii41955 жыл бұрын
5:30 How did you not know about the blown call? It was all over the news, there were news articles and court cases. riots over that one call. I don’t know if you’re just not a football fan and If you are, you’re living under a rock. I know people who aren’t fans of the teams that go to the championship games but they still watch. The reason that there was so much outrage on that 1 call is because it was in a Championship game. It pretty much costed the Saints the trip to the Super Bowl and maybe Drew Brees’ last chance to get one more ring. Hell even after the Super Bowl people were still up and arms about the call because the Rams didn’t put up any sort of an effort in the Super Bowl and was outclassed in nearly every part of the game. People speculate that the Saints should’ve been there and could’ve put up a better fight.

Not a sport, but Yugioh players used to not wash their hands and cover them in grime, because there is a card that forced you to shake your opponents hand, and people would forfeit to avoid gross handshakes. The official ruling was changed so that you don’t have to accept a handshake, just the “idea of a handshake”

I can’t stand Goodell, but the fact he could have immediately put a stop to the “hold everyone on the punt, run out of Endzone to end the game” or “the patriots/Titans delay of game - false start - delay of game” moments, but didn’t, even when he had the written power and authority to do so, is actually quite impressive for him
