Fran is a "lame duck" coach for next year. Im excited, but id be surprised if he actually makes it on campus, unless Iowa rattles of a lot of wins, and even that probably won't matter.

He seems like the kind of player that can thrive under Fran but why does Freeman stick around. His frustration is obvious. Fran needs frontline players, but if he retains Freeman and Dix it’s a good start. But I wont believe he’s actually playing at Iowa until he actually suits up.

Give credit where it's due for Fran landing Lewis. Not sure I understand loading up on similar 3's and 4's given a glaring need for PG post-Thelwell and the answer cannot be Harding and Dix. It's too little too late in my opinion. The risk is higher than the reward keeping Fran. He has shown nothing in 16 years to make me think he is capable of better. It's clear to anyone that understands hoops that a huge part of Iowa's defensive issues from day one have stemmed from a lack of athleticism. You can't keep your man in front of of you, help is required and the defense breaks down. USC, UCLA, and MN did not run elaborate offense against Iowa. They had better athletes at all 5 positions. Same reason Iowa gets destroyed on the boards. Sure fundamentals aren't great at times, but when you are overmatched physically, fundamentals only get you so far.

We'll see, seems like Iowa lands these players but never end up with them. I'm not even sure Fran McCartney will be coach by end of season, I'm sry to be the downer but let's be real n honest bout it. I'm betting if Iowa doesn't win three outta next four he's gone. The program isn't improving in fact it's regressing, my bet is they'll fire him after Caitlin Clark number is retired in early February in avoiding an awkward situation.
