They absolutely should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
@rodjohnson30457 ай бұрын
No, they shouldn't. Like a lot of actual inductees over the last 10 years or so, music wise they have little to do with, and little in common with, rock music. They aren't a rock band or solo act, don't play rock music, didn't have any affiliation with rock, like a crossover song that got played on rock radio, outside of maybe some of the electric guitar they have no real rock elements in their music, and they aren't a significant or noticeable influence on any rock artists that came after them. Why should an R&B/Funk/Soul/top 40 Pop group , clearly not a rock group, be in the "Rock n Roll" Hall of Fame?

I won Miss Brick House 1977 for a Motown-sponsored contest in July and August, 1977. Then danced on tour with Lionel Richie and The Commodores in Dayton, Ohio, Philadelphia, Boston and Hartford, Connecticut. Looking for video footage from any of those Commodore concerts back in the day. (Winning the contest and later working at Motown Hitsville in Hollywood is part of my testimony). Today, I'm a born-again Believer in Jesus Christ! Sold out to the Savior, Healer and Deliverer. May God Bless You. Today and Forever.

Hey Tori awesome story, In 1977 they played live at Rocky Point park in Rhode Island. The stage was about 6 feet high. I was 13 and was dancing to Brick House below them and two of the band members grabbed me by the arms and lifted me on stage and I danced for a couple of minutes before jumping down into a half split. Boy I thought I was it that day. My first claim to fame. Oh one more thing Read Jeremiah 7 and hear what the one all mighty creator says about the sacrifice of sons and daughters and his heart condition regarding it and ask yourself, if he feels this way would he sacrifice his son if it's not something he would command. Would he put the idea in your heart if it's not in his to do such a thing. 30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the Lord: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it. 31 And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart. Come back to Yah and Yah alone, get rid of this falsehood

Back then & now in 2022...Commodores then.. Lionel Richie is all that.. nicely dressed, groomed,, educated, great singer, saxist, pianist, songwriter, producer, humanitarian,, Saw Commodores 1st in 1971 opening fir the Jackson Five & on tour everytime they came to town.., these young in '77 guys were Frisky back in the day..Sing, play instruments whilst dancing..THEY liked the ladies, and women liked them...Oddly, am " Still " obsessed with #LionelRichie after all he was 1st real man I kissed .. With some help, he stillsounds great at 73 , still moving well, no more playing sax but he looks good...Yearn to see him in person at least 1 more time although No more meet & Greet...but even when, cost is a lot more for ticket cost, airfare, hotel, incidentals..can't afford such but I know he gets certain number of free tickets per performance..I can dream..Would like to see him Once a year..Need to find well to do person to help me with such...

I did stand out in that 1971 crowd!!!!.Went there one and left still a virgin at time , Lionel known as Skeet, worthy of nickname (?) Quiet initially but when with others not so much , tad quirky thrifty, got to know him in the 70's.. Yes young horny guys full of testosterone..The more popular they became, thinking they could have any female..nope..Mostly friends but tad bit of benefit..lol.. Jackson Five's Dsd held tight strings on his boys who lost their childhood..Michael was really nice..Got to know him, his brothers on concert circuit would bring home cooked pot of food with me to concerts..Later in 70's drugs changed him.and them...Going solo, the 80's More looseness, drugs popularity, ..Every time since I have seen Commodores or Lionel I am in front row backstage passes now that Meet & Greet for some on hold and ticket prices SO EXPENSiVE. Ticketmaster resold last month's August 26 Lionel Richie a d Earth Wind n Fire Meet and greet $600 ticket..The old days..Had much more money..

The Commodores were my music idols growing up. Over the years there sounds shifted more to the Love ballad side, and then Lionel Richie‘s solo career took off for many more years after that. I had almost forgotten the fire, energy, and imagination of their funk sound, which was their early calling card. That got lost as the music scene changed. So nice to be able to remember it here again. Thank you for posting this.

When I was growing up, live albums were the hallmarks of any band's greatness. Once I started playing instruments myself, I listened even harder to live albums. The Live album that coincided with this tour one was one of my favorites. These guys took no prisoners. Honestly, this was the Commodores at their peak...and it was before the NATURAL HIGH album (the one with "Three Times A Lady"). These guys were in a complete zone at the time, and you can tell here. There is definitely a DIFFERENT feel from THIS concert era compared to the concerts from just a couple of years later that are here on KZbin.

This was the summer of 77 and I was all set to go see the Commodores, The Emotion and Slave. They all had hot records out at the time and my 11 year old self was READY! At 3 oclock the afternoon of the show my aunt reneged on taking me, saying she was sick. Turns out she went with a nee boyfriend and she didnt want me tagging along although she was the one who OFFERED to take me! Needless to say I was crushed, not to mention embarrassed because I bragged to all my freinds that I was going. 😅 I said all this to say this is my chance to see the concert I missed! Thsnk you for posting this

Much Respect +Bkkersey93 for uploading this amazing show. This performance alone not too many bands could hold a candle to them. Thomas McClary said they opened up for Earth Wind & Fire and Maurice White said you can't open up for us anymore you killed it. This Band was a true band. Lionel was the lead singer on most of their songs but Clyde Orange bought some great vocals as well as a killer drumming. Those musicians from Thomas McClary, Ronald LaPread, Milan Williams and William King are legendary. Man they need a reunion shoot if it's even just one show the 70's was simply the greatest era for soul and funk music.

I'm still hoping for a reunion tour. One last tour before the other original members pass away.
@slimdudeDJC3 жыл бұрын
@@willlocke3019 That would be the best. But something tells me there's bad blood between some band members. Also, a sax player I know personally said Thomas McClary was gospel preacher. So it might not be something he'd consider again. I've seen their bass player, Ron LaPread involved with some music projects but haven't heard anything else from the other guys. All of them originally majored in studies other than music with the exception of Walter Orange. So the rest may have completely moved on.

Bro from their Machine Gun album through Natural High their music was funkier than EWF. Three Times A Lady destroyed the Commodores as it planted the seeds and their transition from a killer funk R&B band to a lush ballad pop band. 🤦🏼♂️ EWF ruled after they fell off.

Sadly, Milan Williams died of cancer in 2006 but the Commodores were still going with J D Nicholas as one of their lead singers after Lionel Richie went solo. They are more low key these days though. but in their day they were truly epic. For me they were and remain the only band I've listened to endlessly and never get tired of.

Great comment....!! I seriously doubt if all the original members or at least the ones here which I presume are all the original Commodores are still alive. I would have to Google and Wiki. Maybe someone can save me and others reading this some time. Thanks and God Bless from a 61 yo Baby Boomer..!!

Siempre somos buenos amigos.
