AGREE~ ! Including how to partner with a brand, and a biz talk all about brand ambassadors would be great as well. I always wonder if you can be an ambassador with more than one, are you allowed to use other brands if you are, and how would you end the ambassadorship amicably... just so many things that could be discussed there.

Always charge for services, period. Don’t base your prices on who might say no to you. Know your worth and if people want what you’re selling they will see the value in it and pay what you are asking for. Obviously stay competitive, but there’s no harm in asking for what you think is right.

I been doing nails with the store bought kits 10 years before I got my cosmetologist license. I been licensed now for 11 years and I am still struggling. I been buying your products to build up a brand and I am stuck on prices. I just have no clue what to charge, I used all your brand the other day and charges her $40 and I feel as I overcharged her, so I get it. I am grateful to have you all on KZbin because I didn't know where this was going to take me. I have my own salon room in my house and I do nails here at home. Thank you very much for posting this because I have to think now on what I need to do to make myself confident enough to charge the right amount and not second guess it.

It's hard to know what to charge. In some areas nails are more expensive. It gets tricky when doing friends and family.

@@christinakelley6715 you definitely should check prices in your area! Advertise on nextdoor, it's local. Like Facebook but it's your neighbors. Business and friends/family is particularly hard. Definitely set prices that are comparable with other salons. Some may decide to go somewhere else, it will happen. Most customers will understand. 😁

@@christinakelley6715 check Google. A lot of salons have pricing. You can Google nail salons near me and it will bring up a list. A lot will have pricing. Maybe give regulars a couple dollars off the next couple of set (not a lot off, just so they feel a lil special) and adjust your prices to what's around you. You doing nails at home is no different than having a booth. If anything I think it's a bit more intimate of a service having customers in your house. Personable. Hell you should charge MORE! I don't like going to a noisy salon. No thanks, I'd choose you over a salon!

@@cmayo5659 aww thanks and I hate noisy salons also and my client can feel comfortable and relax. You can talk about whatever, drink, smoke and whatever else others do. I am a very down to earth person. I go live on Facebook for another business I do from home shucking oysters and alot of other things like play games drop ring fizzers, Charm drops and so on. I try to stay busy with my life. But thank you again for the kind words, means alot.

Guilty as “charged”!!! 😝 After realizing that I totally cheated myself on my pricing initially, I made sure that all of my clients at that time KNEW that these prices are introductory pricing and that my prices will definitely increase in October. Also, all of my new clients going forward from that point got the ‘new, improved’ (for me) pricing. There is always opportunity to correct that pricing. Yesterday, I went to look at a potential chair rental opportunity and as I was looking at the other techs pricing menu, I told the salon owner that it looked like it was time for everyone to give themselves a raise! I was just number crunching from the cost of materials…

All of this is great standard business advice! Use it even if you are doing nails, hair, esthetician’s, spray tan technicians, crafts, food…it’s all your art. It’s all your services.

I did a friends nails one time and she asked me how much 40$ i said. She was like hell no. She said my nails were worth more and paid me 60$ ( basic set). That's the rate in my area. So now that's what I charge and all nail art/gems are extra. I've always charged for nail art and for extra length.

This was so helpful to see! I’m a beginner nail tech and I charged a friend $70 for a medium-long full set, four charms, 6 french tips and 4 nails with chrome and hearts. Is that reasonable?? She was totally fine with the price but I’m just putting feelers out there. Going rate for my area (LA) is $54 for a plain full set!

to what extent is quality a bigger determining factor of price than speed? as a beginner i’m still trying to shave down my appt. times (still anywhere from 3.5-5 hours long), but i know i give good quality nails. i am charging $25 for promo pricing, but feel like i may be undercharging - BUT feel so bad having people sit in my chair for so long 😞 i think it will take me awhile to get faster as well but i don’t know if it’s feasible to keep the $25 pricing for too long ah

I went to a nail tech a while ago to help her out because she needed new clients. $15 and they lasted a week. Didn’t push back the cuticles so three days later they looked like 3 weeks of growth already. I now do them myself.

I feel so slow still. I had a client yesterday and it took 2.5 hours. I had to remove about 8 of her nails that she had previously, then did a full set of acrylic. She wanted pink and white but since I’m not great with pink and white (smile line) acrylic, I used white gel polish to paint the white. I felt like we were there so long… They came out good but I think it should have been better with that amount of time spent! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thank God she was a friend.

Thank you so much! I have so much trouble making myself charge for things. Between my lacking confidence and rampant poverty in my area I tend to charge the bare minimum and end up kicking myself because I know my nails last longer than theirs and they look nicer. It's so hard though to come into an existing market and jump into a price range that you don't feel deserving of.

I really enjoyed this video! Even though I'm from the UK and pricing is abit different here, this video was still really helpful! I'm a beginner who has recently starting practising on real people & after watching this video I think I've been giving out afew too many freebies to be fair.. Im the type of beginner that Tracy described who thinks that their too slow to charge! I definitely think I need to get out of this mindset & start charging not just for my products but for my time! Hmm. I'd do a flat fee for all sizes, per stone or packaged set (accent stone, 3-cluster, half-cover nail design, full covered nail). Material costs are just your bottom line. You take the same time placing, regardless of stone size. If the customer is more worried about pocket change than the design, they get just one stone. LOL

I think people need to take some of the pressure off to keep as many customers as possible. I used to think quantity mattered, but now I know it's all about quality. Quality work for quality customers is where the money is. At the end of the day, it's a business. It's not charity or a "feel good" hobby. In business, you need to know your bottom line (what everything costs me), then add on your living wage...triple the bottom line cost is how restaurants price, but it's not a formula. The numbers do have to work, as in, you need to earn a living - the kind that makes you excited to keep coming to work. If this is just a job/paycheck to you, then you just need a job, not a career. Skilled labor is a career. You don't just come out of school knowing it. It took time and time is money. If you can't get what the skill is worth, do different work, don't just give it away because someone doesn't value your time. Nails are a luxury item. No one "needs" them, they want them. Now how bad do you want them? 😄 Not that bad? Go somewhere else.

Maybe the takedown of bulk product is taking awhile a coarser bit may help 5xc. But fixing anything usually takes a little more time . A fill not so much as a rebalance.

That might be because they’re going every 3+ weeks so there’s more work to do. This is the reason why many nail techs dont do fills.

I am guilty of that over a period of time, raise the price it's a problem and my work was good but I notice that some people they will go pay for their weave which is expensive LOLOLOL etc and come at the nailtech and beat or try to beat down your work through the cost then they would go at a other nailtech whom going with the same price and they will give the for less yip so it can be tedious at time because folks like great and clean good work for small money some that is 🤔

A fungus needs to be treated by a doctor and generally does not go away on its own. we do always recommend if there is fungus or severe damage to contact your health care provider.
