@frayjr1970 I hope that the proceeds from the film go to assistance associations for people in need of help. Great Dolly...other than Liz Taylor, who to go and attend the fundraising ceremonies, always asked for..."a little jewel", as she did with M. Jackson to go to the show for her 30th career... she made a thousand excuses, sorrows... then Michael sent her a gift, a necklace, and she... cooing like a dove... (perhaps more than one, magpie, given her passion for shiny things... more than 4 million paid a stranger at auction for her diamond tiara! Do you understand the girl?) went to the evenings of 7 and 10/09/2001... the day before the attack on the Twin Towers... but so be it Mickael, who all the VIP guests, rented buses to escape from New York.

I worked with 2 different Infectious diseases doctors with the VA system. We had the VHS of Common Threads. I would sit with the newly diagnosed AIDS patients and watch it with them. We lost so many patients. 😢😔 back then. I have two mementos from two who passed away. I keep them close to my heart. Every time I clean my place I’m reminded of them. I treasure them even after 35 years and will keep them until the day I die. RIP, my friends!

My husband died with AIDS, after we lost so many friends to it. He had hemophilia, and almost everyone we ever met at the hemophilia clinics my husband went to had died of the complications of the disease by the time he passed. It was such a terrible time, and the stigma was just the worst of humanity on display.

I was pretty young during the beginning of the AIDS virus, but even as a young girl I KNEW we were wrong to treat people with AIDS as if they didn’t matter or “deserved” it. I am a stereotypical suburban mom, no social justice warrior, but I am still fuming over what was done to people with AIDS. I’m embarrassed of the generations before me who either ignored or straight up blamed people with AIDS. The lack of action by our government was criminal.

Even now, decades after first seeing this, I'm gutted by the pain, sorrow, loss and suffering that so many people endured. The US government stigmatized, delayed and denied, refusing to face AIDS as a public health crisis, and more people died as a result. Thanks for posting this. 👍🏻👍🏻

I'm so grateful for this documentary and for the people who shared so much of themselves to make this possible. I was finishing high school when AIDS was first talked about. As a gay man, it made young adulthood scary and challenging. Those who were just slightly older served as the canary in the coal mine for my generation, and we owe them much for what they taught us. I love how he faced the World and dared anyone or anything to steal his Joy. I love the bond that he shared with his wonderful, loving and amazing parents, and how that bond strengthened them and allowed them to celebrate David's remarkable journey. His time on earth may have been brief- but it mattered. He impacted me in a most profound way, and I have no doubt that he impacted others as well. God Bless his precious memory. So I read the booklet inside the jewel case it talked about this being a soundtrack to the documentary from 1988. I was like cool it had to do with the story of the quilts they made and it is in Washington DC, the people that died or passed away from AIDS. In the past few years I've caught myself with the same saying and it goes " I know you don't care for these individuals or agree with a certain subject but does that mean you need to lie?" And I always get the same answer "yes." People will believe an outlandish lie and not the truth. Crazy to me. The villain in this whole story was the disease not any particular individual.

I think regarding Eddie Murphy maybe people can extend some forgiveness towards him. He has spoken about it since that time and has apologized. He feels badly about it and admits his ignorance and insensitivity. Here's some of what he has said. Speaking to the New York Times, Murphy said that his 1987 stand-up special Raw makes him “cringe” today, and that he was “a young guy processing a broken heart” when he recorded it. “Kind of an a**hole,” he added. In 1996, Murphy apologised for the jokes, saying: “I deeply regret any pain all this has caused. Just like the rest of the world, I am more educated about AIDS in 1996 than I was in 1981"

Personally, I remembered having seen this powerful documentary on TV years ago and I was so moved by it and it probably is a reminder that HIV/AIDS is still around although it has not been mentioned as much in recent years. There is no doubt that the ongoing struggle for a cure still goes on as well and I hope sincerely for a cure because HIV/AIDS has to END at some point.

@@vapordave2234 Sadly your are 💯. The youngsters nowadays have more empathy and won't run when someone says the word AIDS. The name "Julie," more than likely means that she's in her 50's and she still has that cruelty from back in the 80s-90s when it was socially okay to treat PWA badly. I'm also in my 50s, so I am well aware of what it was like.

Campbell accused Dan White of homophobia, which is incorrect. White was angry about Milk's refusal to see him reinstated after White resigned from office. These lies have to be fought against in order to set the record straight. White was a murderer and should have served more time, but lying about him doesn't make it any better. Campbell was also very obnoxious as he pranced around pretending to be a nun.

Between mid 1970s through the early 1980s, the gay sexual revolution was at it's height. In those days, in the homosexual community, for most, free sex (unprotected) was just as second nature as drinking water. That combined with the mass HIV infections in that community was a recipe for disaster. Those that were infected in the early 1980s, unfortunately HIV serio-converted in the mid to late 1970s. HIV in the 1970s was unknown and went under the radar.

It was an easy place for the virus to procreate. Within the community there was a lot of promiscuity not a whole lot of safe sex practices. And there you have it.
@brucebosch9362
@brucebosch9362 2 жыл бұрын
There is a more complex explanation for why it hit the gay community so hard. It had to do with the sexual revolution from the 60s and especially the 70s when gay people finally started expressing themselves after centuries of oppression. It was a new kind of freedom and a celebration of this freedom. It is sad that during such a liberating time the community got hit with this terrible terrible disease. Very sad indeed.
