Day In The Life of An Ebay Reseller

My first thing after coffee and cleaning up after the cats is to prepare shipments in time for the postman. Then I list or prep inventory. I’ll make drafts if I come across stuff I need to research and later finish them while I’m watching TV.

In the morning, I print shipping labels and I do drafts and scheduled listings, and then about noon or so, I put the shipping labels on my packages and then switch to photographing, weighing and measuring the items I am going to list and making my notes that I use to make my drafts. I also package items to ship the next day. About 4pm, I drive into town to mail my packages and to my storage units to pull items that have sold. I spend some time then in my local watering hole to enjoy the company of my friends and catch up on local gossip. I am usually home way before 7 and then while listening to youtube videos, I lay down and crop the photos I took that day, which average anywhere from 150 to 200 plus photos a day. If I took less photos or just am not sleepy, I may stay up and work on drafts while listening to or watching in a split screen on my computer, my favorite TV shows. I work with drafts and scheduled listings, trying to average 6 listings a day, and work to get way ahead of myself so that I can take off when I want. Much of my sourcing is done by using an online auction house that is a 2 hour drive away. We have a relationship and they are kind enough to let me wait until I have a few auctions worth of stuff to pick up, in order to make the trip more efficient so I usually make a day of it and go to local thrift shops, Goodwills, and even estate sales while I am in that area plus go out to eat in a good restaurant. I also like to take a day off to go fishing in the summer or take a drive on a sunny day to enjoy my photography hobby and explore the small towns in rural northwest central Wisconsin, sourcing when I can.

My day - I retired two years ago and my one promise to myself is I get up when I feel like it! I start most days between 8-9am. First order is, with my first cup of coffee, I check email and messages to make sure I don't have any customer requests or questions. Then I do my "Send Offers" for the day and some "List Similars". Then I do what I feel like that morning - That is what gets me motivated and moving in the morning! If I feel like shipping, I do! If I feel like scanning stuff to list, I do! And if I feel like listing, I list what I feel like listing! Once I get past morning blahs, I am ready to tackle those things that need to get done! Best to you and your family Kevin!

I’m an early riser so I might get up at 3 or 4am and I will watch some KZbin while I either list or crosslist (I’ve been terrible at crosslisting lately). Then from 8-10 I do chores (my mom comes to get my dog to watch him), around 10 I’ll pull my orders and ship. At 11 is when I’ll take pictures to list until 1 or 2. At 2:30 I head to post office and then pick up my dog from my mom’s. I visit my mom until 4 come home, make dinner and then I finish my listing I need to do around 6 until I’m done. This is my basic day, it might change if I want to do a live sale and it’s not been the normal lately because I’ve been preparing for floors to be redone and going through my inventory plus personal stuff.

My go 2 tape. First thing I do is check messages, end old listings and sell similar. Then complete 5 listings. As I'm sourcing I copy a sold listing and save as a draft. On Monday's I add photo's to those drafts . Then I pack any solds and take to the post office.

I fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to listing. I do it almost daily when I have time. I normally look at weekly scheduled estate sales. I went to one this morning, last minute decision. That’s right, sell all the Eagles stuff before they lose to Washington on Sunday!! 😂 Great video Kevin, love the topic! The first thing I do everyday is pull orders while filming for YT. Then pack and drop off to post office or UPS. On Tuesday & Thursday I usually stop by the thrift store after shipping. (I may run some quick errands while out as well, grocery store, Walmart, etc.) Then I head home to photo and post my 5 daily listings. I try to have my 5 listings and “To Do” list complete the night before. I find that gives me peace of mind having my plan ready and I just need to execute, rather than plan & execute.

I love my Tupperware and I have the same strainers but I do have the vintage Tupperware coasters that I cleaned up for sale. Back in the 1970s after my 19:34 youngest sister was off the bottle my Mom told me to clean and pack up a 4 oz and a 8 oz bottle because the bottles could be worth something when I was old enough to start my family and I still have then today...wasn't sure what to do with them...I retired in March 2023 and still working on my projects to post for sale... I mainly post my jewelry and Christmas ornaments if I can't do a vendor show..

I don't depend on an income from reselling, so I thrift part time, whenever I want. And I list things whenever I want. But I do relist ending items every day to keep my store active. I enjoy doing the research to find out about new items. I only have about 530 items listed.

I lifted over my limit two days in a row. Not for long but it doesn't take much when your safe carry limit is 5 pounds. Today, my schedule is sitting on my butt for the most part because the old surgical scarring ain't playing. I set a schedule, but God changes it. I was planning to hit a thrift after an estate sale yesterday. Sat at the garage getting my car fixed instead.

There is a great support system among the live sellers. We could help you out. Also Shipping is handled by you on district. You charge the shipping and ship it how you want when you want and use whatever platform you want. Pirate ship or something else or use the platform on district to ship..
