Thanks for the great comparisson video. I am personally contemplating on how to approach my personal favorites in gaming and your videos are a good approach to compare two games, I feel. Just wondering: in terms of a personal view on games, how much do nostalgia and emotional connection towards a game impact your view on it? Would you say it's fine to love a game based of that you simply had a lot of fun with it personally, even if it might be qualitatively not the greatest nowadays?

There are moments when this concept works perfectly, but so many scenes fall flat because of the lack of music. Why is there no majestic track when I'm riding across Hyrule field? Why is there no instrument in this game? Music was always an important element of Zelda games, some of them even had their name given in regards to an instrument. I offen enjoy tue minimalistic tunes of BOTW but climbing Hyrule Castle and suddenly enjoying the fantastic track just makes me wish that more areas featured their own songs.

@Faint3664 жыл бұрын
Jason Gooden play it for 60 hours and tell me if you still feel that way. I got so bored by the end because there’s no progression in abilities like in other Zelda games. There’s just weapons with bigger numbers to kill the enemies with bigger numbers.
@unlimited84104 жыл бұрын
@@Faint366 I agree with you, I had a blast for the first half of the game, but then the other half was disappointingly boring since there was no more progression in weapons for me since I was basically endgame by then. There are some balancing issues, like in cooking for example, and a lack of progression systems later on in the game. There is little incentive to use other options of fighting when you already have a whole arsenal of weapons later in the game really destroying that feel of freedom when you can just use weapon to kill enemies, so weapon breakings was actually a good decision to add in imo. Once the progression system fails you realise how empty the other parts of botw are, like the story, dungeons and shrines for example. Hopefully with the sequel they could improve these issues, especially not trolling completionists with korok seeds, but for the first half of the game I would definitely rate it a 9.5/10.

What do you mean breaking weapons = what botw lacks? Imagine botw, but without weapon durability? It doesn’t work, it won’t be as good. Weapon breaking is one of the main reasons why we keep on exploring to get better weapons. And that’s also the reason why we sometimes run away from enemies or trying to kill enemies with creative ways like rolling the big boulders or using magnesis. It’s fun. And it helps us get better with other weapons and adapt with changes.
@Mzee10845 жыл бұрын
I haven't played BotW as I don't have a console for the last few generations, but I think weapon durability does add different elements to adapt to. It can be good or bad depending on the game, but sounds like it is a good strategic thing for the BotW. I think the way The Witcher 3 does it works well as repairs provides a good money sink, and weapons can be switched easily as there is no shortage of finding them, and repairing or using a weaker weapon is a good choice to have available.
@hollywood71285 жыл бұрын
The lack of an ability to repair weapons that you really like, I believe, hurt the game. I would explore to find a great weapon and NEVER want to use it because I didn't want it to break, but because of that I never really got to enjoy it. Permabreaking with no option to repair prior to the break penalized the desire to search for great weapons and use them.
@noah57935 жыл бұрын
If the durability was less harsh the it would’ve been great the weapons just break to fast

@andyc65425 жыл бұрын
I loved BoTW but didn’t enjoy the weapon durability. Not knowing which weapons to use on which enemies for fear of breaking them and not being able to replace said weapons wasn’t fun for me. And a lot of the time my tactic was using bombs and getting enemies to chase me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED the game, but this one aspect was the biggest drawback for me (well, maybe the lack of traditional dungeons and variety of dungeon bosses too)

I think I like the Witcher 3 more. A good story just really emotionally satisfies you. I have read the books so it does add more weight, but even then the voice acting and script are so well done. BOTW is not a bad or even good game by any means. It is a great game for different reasons, but it does not have as much emotional depth. I think with BOTW 2 or whatever it may be they can reconcile between these to give both good gameplay and a great heartfelt story.

The element of breaking weapons makes you second guess enemy encounters. Where as in the Witcher you can fight enemy’s more often before having your weapons break and needing repairs. Tigar0411 Arkham In actual ways they can be compared. RPG vs Adventure game. World (Design) - BOTW and it shouldn't even be argued. Story - Subjective. Writing goes to The Witcher 3 though it is worth mentioning that the story of BOTW is optional. The Witcher 3 isn't. Gameplay - BOTW Bosses - Witcher 3 Controls - BOTW Music - Subjective. Use of music probably works better in BOTW's case though being an open world game and all but they are too different to compare. There isn't a whole lot that can be compared between the two games fairly but if we take each into consideration Breath of The Wild ends up being a superior open world action adventure game than The Witcher 3 as an open world action RPG. Since the open world and action aspects are clearly in Breath of The Wild's favor as far as actual game design is concerned. And both do amazing jobs at the last aspect. RPG for TW3. Adventure for BOTW.

I work as a music producer and mixing engineer, so i always listen carefully all music and sound fx in every game I play. For my personal opinion, the music point is going for both the titles because how the music is treated in relation to the story and the gameplay. In Breath of the Wild, I found they’re artistic choice perfect. You have few tracks going on so you’re mostly focusing on the natural environment. But than the music pops up and when it does, it feel so good, so precious, enhancing the moment perfectly, and that’s because the game wake you up from the habit of not to ear it. It serves your senses. In The Witcher 3 the music is used in a more “canon” way, giving every place and situation a clear identity, and the composition level is stunning. Every track is memorable and perfectly placed, just think about how beautifully is riding over the Skeillege Islands... The Witcher world is so stunning also because of this. So, both games use music for serving 100% the purpose of the gameplay, the identity and ofc, the world surrounding the player. And that’s why for me they both deserve the music point! Sorry for the long comment and my poor English grammar ehehehe, thx (P.s. I totally agree with you in any other point. Nice video and nice examination!)

I'd go with Breath of the Wild, if we're going specifically the Switch versions, because of the Switcher 3's visual downgrades. If we were comparing BOTW against the original Witcher 3, then it would be tighter.
@Avdimax5 жыл бұрын
Supposing the drifting issue on switch, as it mostly only occurs to heavy gamers and that it is better play witcher handheld on switch, this game can be very ... very frustrating while looting and travelling times; tho that is not the case about BOTW and Skyrim at all. I finally decided to pick witcher and play it ,after these years of ... digging in Dark souls series, still on switch specifically instead high end pc or ps4 because of portability and personal handheld preference. Notable saying there are some wise visual decisions over character details in dialogue scenes that actually models look pretty nice and close to console standards which helps deliver solid experience.

I actually really dislike that about BotW. It takes hardly any effort to just copy/paste a few broken buildings and say “oooooh what happened here? How mysterious! It’s totally just as interesting after we do the same thing 5000 times right?” The fans are the ones putting in the legwork to make those areas interesting because the game doesn’t give us any actual information about them. Ya there are tons of areas to find in BotW, but what can you actually discover? A shrine? A treasure chest with some rock salt inside? Another Knight’s Sword? Cool... Think back to ALttP when you could actually find completely unique items by exploring hard to reach areas. What does BotW have that’s even close to that?

Witcher is far more involved than Zelda. Very much more an RPG, whereas BoTW is more action adventure. To fully appreciate Witcher I feel that you need to fully experience and immerse yourself in the whole story, which means if you have got 100 odd hours spare, you won’t appreciate, whereas Zelda is very much a game you can easily dip in and out of in intervals and go explore the beautiful open world. For the record, have only just started Witcher III on Switch and barely a few hours in - it’s crafted MAGNIFICENTLY from the point of view of a story but can already tell BoTW is more accessible and more fun to play - the joy of Witcher lies in unravelling the story, whereas the joy of BoTW is in the world that’s been crafted to fully explore.

The experiences that I had with Witcher 3 and Botw are some that I will never forget. The characters and storyline in Witcher 3 are some of the best ever.. and even the sidequests are so good. Geralt is a great protagonist with personality and choices and moral dilemma. it has been 3 years since I last played Witcher 3, and even now I remember the storylines of some memorable sidequests. Also, the bloody baron storyline is one of the best. Combat is fun too. Whereas in BOTW, the sense of openness that I got from the entire map can't be matched by games 10 times it's size in playable area. It is always fun to experiment in the BOTW physics engine, and I am never bored by the vast nothingness in the maps.. there is so much to do. I had most of my enjoyment early in botw in my ANTICIPATION of what might be on top of a mountain in the distance, or on an interestingly shaped island, only to be sorely disappointed when it was another tedious shrine, korok, seed, some fancy but breakable weapon which means I don't want to use it. It just felt so empty,boring and repetitive, and unfinished once the novelty wore off. The map is very beautiful and visually interesting and all that, but the content people are praising wasn't nearly interesting enough for me I guess. @@Faint366 So you are gonna act like the Zelda franchise didn't pioneer other open world games, gameplay, exploration, a sense of wonder, creepy dungeons, mediaval/fantasy atmosphere that inspired games that came later on such as the Witcher? Link was riding epona and killing monsters before Geralt was riding roach doing the same lol. I get your point the Witcher is a more complete, deeper game with immersive combat, strategy an engaging story with down to earth realistic fleshed out characters but Zelda was never about that. Zelda is a more simplistic approach to explorations, story telling and world interaction. Both games are fantastic, obviously the witcher wins by default. I made BOTW my bitch after only 25 hours of gameplay I was already abusing lynels and cooking op meals and one shooting guardians something you clearly can't do in the Witcher with even lesser enemies but it's still a blast. Yangel Senpai your entire first paragraph is completely pointless. We’re not talking about which game came first, we’re talking about which one did it *better*. Maybe think for two seconds before making some stupid snarky response next time. I didn’t “act like” zelda didn’t pioneer open world games back in 1986, I’m talking about where the franchise is at NOW. Since when has zelda not been about immersive gameplay and engaging stories? And how is that even an argument? You spend 90% of your comment saying I’m right about literally everything I said and then you act like you won something. Zelda may have been the pioneer during the NES era and the initial jump to 3D, but ever since then the franchise as a whole has been chasing the rest of the industry. Take the “zelda” out of breath of the wild and the game wouldn’t receive half the praise it gets. Breath of the Wild is being hailed as the best game of all time despite the fact that all it did was finally catch up to Skyrim, and arguably it didn’t even do that. Skyrim has a story with engaging characters and dozens of side quests with just as much story if not more than the main quest. Zelda has fetch quests for 20 purple mushrooms. In short: everything I said is still true. The Witcher is a fully developed game with intent and purpose and a fully fleshed out story, breath of the wild is an overhyped tech demo

Going point A to B then more long cutscenes. So that is why i prefer Breath of the wild not because it was bigger or better but because i like how i can play on my own not too many cutscenes or dialogue that almost never end,, even the cutscenes of the main story is optional.. but that's just me.

What I hate most in witcher 3 is that there's a lot of question marks on the map. You can take a look at different stuff to find or fight monsters on these question marks. This is good but however, it gets rid of that exploration and suprise factor to it as the question marks doesn't show up when just running around without having to open up the map to mark the waypoint to these question marks. It could've been done better if they just didn't show the question marks on the map. This way there's that sense of adventure, exploration and rmrandomly finding stuff when just exploring and roaming around randomly

Bosses - witcher 3 for variety Controls - botw, complicated but super satisfying. Witcher can be dull when it comes to controls. @@tyrael43 that's an excuse, Nintendo could have delayed the game to give more time to other aspects if they wanted to. Shigeru Miyamoto has a famous quote about how a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is bad forever. However, they had a deadline though for the switch release date which was important. They had to sell the console and obviously the launch games were a big part of that so they needed botw ready for then.

so im currently on a play through for the first time of the Witcher 3, I now understand why the hell this game is so praised. Its so good. I think BOTW Has unique concepts but like in my opinion the Witcher 3 is better. The story and character building, and item management is just better. Not to mention the crafting system and witcher senses and the beautiful voice acting in the witcher 3. IDK man I love BOTW But it fell short for me in many ways. (I hope that the botw2 fixes this.) But the economy in the Witcher actually gives you a reason to do quests. Zelda is so unrewarding in this regard.

I found Witcher too difficult to understand. The simplicity of BOTW makes it more appealing. Witcher 3 had me so confused and frustrated. I didn't know if I was doing things right. Also, mixing potions? Taking elixirs? How do you beat a boss if the game doesn't teach you how to do these properly? At lest with zelda it's easy to know when you cook something how it will turn out. Maybe I missed something in the Witcher tutorial, or maybe the game falls short of teaching and it's not my fault. Or, on another level, maybe Witcher 3 is simply just not for casual gamers like myself. I bought Witcher 3 digitally on my switch so there's no returning it. I will give it a shot later, but for now, I'm way happier with BOTW. and that is from a huge Witcher book and TV show fan.....

You know, I'm getting SICK of people harshing on BotW's music. Just because it's not EVERYWHERE doesn't mean it's bad. Not only that but BotW has more variety in it's music. Also, Witcher's music applies to a specific tone. So, sorry but Witcher should get the point for music.

One man in a side quest tells you about where to go by stating location's geography. But when i reach that location. I find that location is completely different from what he says. For example he state that their is a board which tell you where to go but it is not located there.

I love both games, and now with Totk, these are my most played games on the switch. I only recently got the witcher 3 this march, after playing botw for almost 2 years, I got it a lot later than most people, in 2021. And the witcher 3 was everything that I was expecting, I had wanted for so long a medieval game, and this was exactly it. I love the story, I love how alive the world is, the fact that every single character has voice acting and dialogue, not only main characters but also pedestrians, shopkeepers etc, makes the game incredibly immersive. The fact that every dialogue choice will impact the story is insane, one dialogue choice can end with characters dying later on, that is fascinating. The side quests are amazing, I love the monster contracts, every single one is like a little detective adventure and I love it. Botw lacks all of this for the most part, there are a few good side quests but most of them are really short and super easy, and most are a variant of the same thing, like getting something specific, in the witcher every side quest and contract has its own fleshed out story. Botw is better than witcher 3 in other aspects, like combat. I definitely enjoy the combat more in botw, flurry rush is so satisfying, spinning with a two-handed weapon too, you can freeze, burn or electrocute enemies, it is just a more fun experience in that aspect. And the physics are just insane, you can feel the weight of things and the world is much more interactive than in the witcher, you can climb, cut down trees, pick up rocks etc.

I know I’m probably alone on this one, but I’ve never been a huge Nintendo fan. I actually went as far as to say that Nintendo only makes game’s for children. That being said the Nintendo switch lite was released last month for a really low price, so I got one just to say I had one. I picked up legend of Zelda BOTW, I judged the game heavily before I ever played it. Turns out it is easily in my top 5 list for best games. I’ve sunk nearly a hundred hours into it and still finding more stuff to do everyday. I remember when the Witcher 3 came out on ps4 I got it because it looked incredible. To my surprise I was very disappointed with how it played. The moving & combat Mechanics are absolutely terrible & the story is truly a bore. I played for maybe 10 hours before I finally gave up on it. I just bought the switch version hoping that I’ve matured and I’m ready to give it a second try. I’ve gotten much further in the game, I’ve learned how to craft items & ive gotten much better at combat. That being said, I still think the game is highly overrated. I will finish it because of the ridiculous $60 price for it, but this game is no where as good as BOTW. But that’s my opinion.
@thelegendgamer335 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. At least with what you said about the Witcher. I just find the story so boring, but it's not because of my lack of maturity. I've enjoyed some of the most complex themes in games and cinema and I love the added psychological or philosophical depth that some of them add I just think the story about finding his adopted daughter and the whole Wild Hunt thing sucks. That and I find RPGs just dump so much stuff on you and most of it isn't that well designed its just a quantity over quality thing. That's why I loved Breath or the Wild it's surprisingly deep while being still very accessible and having a very casual but engaging premise to it. It's really not all that deep but it is more so than it first appears.

I have been playing BOTW for years I love that game and have been playing Witcher three for the last three months and cannot constantly play it cause frankly it annoys me... I will finish it I payed for the damn thing.. and its two extensions but I bought master mode in BOTW and never looked back.. yeah you can finish this and finish that but there are always new skills to learn (part of the skill of the game is knowing when to throw your weapon and use a new one it is not a downfall it is an adventure) and things to try .. I am not a huge "yeah let's read a novel " kind of game player. I want to get in have fun and enjoy. I have been hitting all the side quests on witcher 3 and so far the game is not challenging but maybe as it goes along it does... to me it is following your normal online, upgrade and conquer way of it.
