@@daniellemoebus9346 Hmmm. I'd draw a line at not policing government information. This really needs to be policed in order to ensure that it's accurate and not simply propaganda for some of their top-end-of-town corporate mates! (As evidently happened during the covid debacle!) So the government really DO need to be held accountable for THEIR misinformation! ALL government information NEEDS to be policed very carefully! And judged by 'we the people'... after all, THEY are supposed to represent us! (Not the top end of town or the corporations!) It's about time they were actually made to do so!

I agree. I do not think they realise just how damaging this will be. For me, it is not so much about what I want to say on the internet, but what I want to hear. I like investigating for myself, things that concern me. If this Bill passes, then I/we will have information withheld from us which could make a difference to our decisions. This Bill is very scary and even if it does not pass, the fact that it even got this far should remove Labour from any form of Government in the future. They are showing their true colours. The absolute control over what we think.

As a former daily consumer of ABC TV and ABC just in online content I can confirm that this Australian citizen has completely lost trust in the national broadcaster. The service is not promoted to my children and I doubt ever will be. Occasionally I check in on the abc news website 'just in'. I read the headlines and shake my head in dismay. The narrative is obvious from titles alone. The ABC, once a reliable news source is now as unreliable as commercial main stream media organisations. Social media platforms are reliable in so much as the general population of citizens have a voice. We citizens have then the opportunity to view and decide if what we consume is information or Disinformation. It's really quite easy as a mature adult to see the crazy, the manipulative and the narrative. Fear not Canberra, we the people can decide what to believe and even the Australian government cannot stop that.

The very best way the Australian government can address dangerous misinformation is to STOP SPREADING IT THEMSELVES! Especially in the form of propaganda for the pharmaceutical and/or other major industries! The Australian people need their so-called 'representatives' to ACTUALLY represent 'we the people' and OUR best interests! And not merely to serve the interests of their own political careers and bank balances.

With respect... this opens as way too polite and condescending a stance... You open by almost seemingly speaking in support of some form of censorship... Why? Even that is not good enough. Because no one should even be acknowledging or validating the phoney and unreasonable motives for the bill that have been absurdly claimed. There is no problem with bogus information. In fact the general public has never had such robust and diverse and representative and truth-revealing forums for discourse and the sharing of information as social media provides. Creative and constructive methods of determining what is truth have existed forever and exist already on social media and outside of it. Rather than destructive forms aimed to control the general public and curtail free speech and information. That bill is blatantly totalitarian and is completely unlawful as it breaches common law and the Constitution of Australia and established policies of the Government of Australia as a whole. It must be met with the strongest of opposition and legal and political challenge

AUSTRALIA must Invest in a well funded independent ABC with journalists who are respected for their work in sorting out both sides of any issue including grey areas of truth to present to us .By the way that ultra right wing MP refuses to engage in clarifying facts and rarely is interviewed by ABC journalists who might fact check her motivations and actions. Webster prefers Skynews interviewers who echo her right wing conservative views
