Choices about how to structure a presentation or speech really matter. The right organization helps you stay on track and helps your audience follow your thinking.
Introduction
Here is an outline of the introduction section, which should be about 10% of the presentation.
- Attention grabber
- Audience relevance statement
- Speaker's credibility statement
- Thesis or "bottom line"
- Preview of main points to come
Body
The body of the presentation should do the following and makes up about 85% of your time.
- Organize your points in some logical fashion for your specific topic
- Aim for about 3 main points to keep it clear
- Signpost your main points by saying 1st, 2nd, 3rd (or some clear way to make each point stand out)
- Use transition statements to signal that you're changing gears from one point to the next
Conclusion
Your conclusion should only take about 5% (maybe 10%) of your time and do the following very concisely.
- Signal that you are ending, "In conclusion . . ."
- Reinforce your thesis or main idea. Optionally, you may also want to recap your points if that helps but keep the summary tight.
- Call to action. If you are going to ask your listeners to do something (especially in a persuasive presentation), this is the spot to do it.
- Clincher. End on a high note with a quick story, appropriate quotation, etc.
Presentation structure is a key element to help both you and your listeners.

I got multiple screenshots of diagrams he used to help explain the process. You can also read over the process below the video. Alex spoke about it, using diagrams AND wrote it all out for us. Maybe he should do your presentation for you. What is he thinking; giving up his time to publish free content for everyone & not even doing your work for you?

My best tip before I go to bed is always do your presentation in front of a mirror the day before at least. I’m sure I’m not the only one who suggest this but it was something that stuck with me from school and it’s nice to see what you look and sound like before your presentation.

Hi Mr. Alex I really enjoy your videos. I have 2 questions; 1. In case of a PHD seminar, can the 3 main ideas of the body just be"Introduction, results, conclusions" or has to be more presice? 2. It is very formal in PHD to introduce my self and my supervisors in the beginning. Shall I follow this tradition?
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how to give you advice on this. If you're working a a faculty member in a Ph.D. program, I would ask the professor about it.
@aimhigh7312
@aimhigh7312 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderlyon I also had the same question in my mind.. as i am also pursuing my Ph.D and i have to give my PTC presentation very soon.. i asked to my supervisor that, is it fine to have the attention grabber sequence first before i introduce myself.. he said, you are the presenter.. so if you can pull off in confident manner i dont have any problem its your day..

Hi, Alex! My body is about 30 minutes. Is it better to make three 10-minute parts or six 5-minute parts? Increase time of each part or increase number of parts?
@alexanderlyon

I think it's really hard to answer that abstractly. But, my advice would be to pick the arrangement of main points that is the most memorable and most natural for the content.

Hey I really love your video it's so helpful. And I thought you would want to know that the ad running on your video is a scam
@alexanderlyon
@alexanderlyon 5 ай бұрын
Oh. Thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately, channels don't have any way to control what ads are shown on their videos. From what I understand, the ads are targeted to the individual watching, not the channel or video. So, other people watching this same video would not necessarily see whatever ad you saw. But you might see the ad on other videos. At least, that's the way I understand it works. It's all a bit of a mystery, honestly.
