I went to community college for 2 years, got all of my general education out of the way and worked at the same time. Now I have no debt and I'm going to a top 10 school (UVA). Meanwhile I have friends who went to a 4 year right off the bat and are 10s of thousands of dollars in debt. Ouch. I'll never understand why people look down on CC. It makes so much sense especially in this day and age when you have to give your left nut to go to a University.

+Kitchen Trout BUT going to a CC for the full two years wastes time you should just go for only what you need to get into a 4 year school as quickly as you can because then you won't have to waste time and money and most 4 year schools ( if you go to one in your state) aren't really that exensive, room and board is where they get you plus the meal plan, if you live at home and have a regular minnimum wage job then its not that expensive.
@kitchentrout5867

michelle kearsey I don't think I have wasted any time at all considering the fact that I have zero debt and have a year left at one of the finest public universities in the country. I also have a job waiting for me when I finish. Have you ever even been to college? The first 2 years are general education requirements that are required by the university before you begin courses that are geared more towards your specific major. The community college I went to offered these exact classes that would transfer over to any university in my state and were half the price. Sure I lived at home and worked during this time but in the grand scheme of things I didn't miss out on anything and certainly didn't waste any time.

Da Choppah yes but most of the time little joey and others who go straight to a four year school receives a lot in scholarship money based on athletics and academics, also big expensive schools give more in financial need its only the really rich kids who pay the full price tag, that's what schools like NYU or harvard do too.

You made me feel a lot better about going to a community college first. I've been feeling down the fact that I won't experience the "college life" at a university as a freshmen like my friends will. Well, least I'm not going to be in so much debt.

jazzzylatte Don't worry about that. Those professors at those universities could care less about you. And if you really want that "college life", you can find it all in the city. The only difference is instead of traveling all over town, it's all in one place.

A lot of my friends have wealthy families and backgrounds, in my position that's not the case. There is no way that university could be an option for me because of not having the ridiculous amount of money that you need to have an education. I am not the smartest, well, I don't really feel that smart period lol, so seeing all of my friends who are in fact very intelligent, makes me kinda feel like trash. While they're out on campus meeting people and getting involved, stuff like that, ill be here with no one struggling to make it through as they will be doing much better. I hate that we must pay to earn education, it should be a right to earn free education. It really makes me feel like there is no potential for myself to be honest.

This video is so true. I'm in my second semester at my community college, and though it's not "the real college experience" it's so much cheaper. Sometimes you just gotta suck it up for a year or two but you'll be saving so much money, it's not even funny. Community college does kinda feel like highschool all over again, and I'm excited to transfer, but it'll be worth it!

At the beginning of senior year I was so against going to community college. Now that I graduate in a month I realize it really is the better choice, considering I'm not 100% sure of what I want to do yet, and my parents agreed to paying for my community college tuition. In New Jersey instate tuition for a university alone is $15,000-$20,000. Definitely the better choice!

I feel like everyone's expirience will be different. At my community college, I was able to make a lot of friends (joining clubs, classes, etc.), and I made friends with some older students (some who even helped me transfer to university and I'm grateful for. I have to study a decent amount too. It really depends on your area and the school you go to.

it's my first year at a community college and my biggest regret ever is not going straight to a 4 year. I'm watching all my friends have the time of their lives and meeting new people. I'm usually a positive person and i'm trying to make the best of it but sometimes things just suck.

It really bothered me how she made it seem like community college is easier than university. It's not! I went to a community college and transferred to a university, and I can say from experience that it's not. The difficulty of the coursework depends on the class and the professor but not whether it is a community college or university. It bugs me when people say that community college is easy because I worked hard in every single class I took at community college.
@MyPOVvlogs
@MyPOVvlogs 5 жыл бұрын
It depends on alot of things. Like you mentioned professors, the class and even on the student. I'm attending a CC and I've had classes that I found easy while students in the same class were struggling and vise versa. So it also depends on perception and how much work you're willing to put into the class.
@jimmytran5339
@jimmytran5339 5 жыл бұрын
You are right it does depends on the class and the professor. But still community college classes tend to be more easier then university. I took classes at a CC and I say it a lot easier then university. Now I attend a university.
@brianamarshall6589
@brianamarshall6589 5 жыл бұрын
@@jimmytran5339 Could it possibly be that the classes you took at community college were just easier in general? I know right now at my community college I'm taking mostly general education courses so I expect them to be easier than when I actually get to university and start taking courses for my major. I'll never know if Eng 102 is harder at a university because I won't have to take that class because it'll transfer. Unless you had to repeat classes you've already taken at your community college when you transferred to a university you can't be entirely sure that those specific classes would've been harder for you at a university. I think university will be harder for me, not because the classes in general are harder, but because I've already knocked all of the easy A general education classes out at community college.
@jimmytran5339
@jimmytran5339 5 жыл бұрын
Janay M to answer your question. I had to retake some courses at university in my major because courses did not transfer. It is way harder even if the class is suppose to be the same. 3 English were required at my community college. Only 2 transferred while the other did not. I had to retake it at university and it way harder. In general no it not because I had easy courses in general. Community college is just extremely different from University. Everything she said was mostly accurate. You don’t have the same experience at a community college.

Go to a good CC in a field that you are interested in and has good job prospects and good job placement. University have just as many bad teachers (some have heavy accents, most have limited office hours because they only care about their research and you have to see their assistants who seem just as useless as they are trying to get their PHDs and have little care to help others) where there are 300 ppl in ur science class ... good luck making friends in a cutthroat class of 300 who are competing on a curve. When I was at Uni, I found that the best students were serious CC students who transferred there. Most Uni students become lazy flakes who experiment with life and suffer gradewise their 1st and 2nd years. Last, college is about preparing for a job. That is ur 1st priority and this is reality of growing up. If you do not have this sink into you, you will suffer with years of debt and misery afterwards, unless you have rich generous parents. I started at a University and graduated. Then later went back to CC to complete a program that I work in now. The CC experience was very good and a better use of my time and money. Too many egomaniac teachers at universities and too many drunk idiot students at universities. CC teachers are more down to earth and know about the realities of life struggles and living on a budget. Work you ass off at a good community college and get out into the workplace ASAP (too many directionless students at some CCs). You will impress employers and you can make good friends at CCs. Avoiding massive student loan debt will make your life so much better in the long run. Any university student will admit this. If you want to explore and have fun, use the money you save by going to CC and take an European vacation ...sure beats going to university for 4 years and is cheaper.

I love this video! It sheds light on this as many, many students do this step. I completely agree with you. Community college to a university is one the best decisions a student can make! And I know what you mean about the whole friends coming back home after a semester! I know some that completely gave up on college because the transition from high school to a university was just too overwhelming. Unfortunately, they are in debt and can't find jobs and the student loans interest just keeps accumulating. These were the same people that shunned me for going to a community college first.

Thanks this helps a ton!! I was so worried about what I was going to do money wise and have started looking into community college and online courses so I could save up money for University. I was also afraid of the stigma that comes along with going to community college, but clearly you are doing well so what's there to worry about? And the fact that it is much more chill and a great transition into university as opposed to jumping in head first, so you can gain your bearings, takes away so much anxiety. Thank you so so much!!!

I totally agree with you on the BCC thing...LOL it was kind of a joke looking back on it. I never studied there and now I spend about 2 or 3 hours a day studying! It was a nice stepping stone though. I would say to anyone who does dual enrollment so they are a junior when they graduate high school is that it's tough! Graduating at 20 with a Bachelor's is awesome, but it really forces you to make career and educational choices that will effect the rest of your life and that's scary at a young age. At least that's how I feel! :)

you are a very smart young lady. When I was 13 or 14 years of age I planned my future. I didn't wait until I became an adult because it would've been a struggle with studies and freetime all together. Starting a a community college is very a wise and worthful choice. i'm currently at Sinclair Community College majoring in Matheatics and Geology. Aftherwards I will be going to University of Akron to continue my college education and work at the same position as I work a now. There were a few students at my high school that went straight to a university and are struggling due to lack of academic studies with their time frame. Thank you very much and have a wonderful life time.

Yesss!!! I'm all for community college (I have a close relationship with my family so I'm going to commute, pay for it all myself, while contributing to bills or groceries with my waitress job); the stigma behind it is quite illogical. Financially it's a gem- the average tuition for community college being $3,435 while private being $32,405! As far as professors, it's truly a matter of chance; there will be some great ones at Community and some bad ones at University and vice versa but also largely a matter of opinion (for me the more lectures/more homework the better). From CC I'm going to transfer to a public university (only about $9,000) so win-win :)

Everything you said about universities is spot on. At least for me. It is way more expensive, scholarships don't cover the entire cost (at least mine doesn't), classes may be shorter but they cover a lot of info and they are generally harder. You do have to keep up and study all the time. Something I am not used to doing and should work on. I sometimes wish I hadn't chosen to study at a university for these exact same reasons. But this was the only place that offered an associate's degree in what I'm studying and it is also the most complete course where I live. A good thing about universities (or at least mine) is that all of the classes that I have to take are related to my degree. I don't have to take general basic classes like math or P.E. that have nothing to do with what Im studying. Meeting people is super easy, even easier than in high school.

I was devastated when my mom told me that I couldn’t go to university because of money. So I ended up going to Community College because of how cheap it was. I was really unhappy my first semester, but as my friends started talking more and as I kept going I realized how lucky I was that my mom said I couldn’t go to university right away. I’ll be entering my junior year with a SURPLUS of money because of the scholarships I got through CC.. now, when i transfer, I’ll be getting another huge scholarship just because i graduated from a Connecticut Community College and am planning on transferring to the university of Connecticut. Any high schoolers that feel down about it, don’t. Visit your friends on the weekends and spend that extra $$$ on some fun rather than bills

Damn, I would LOVE to pay 3,500 for college!! My tuition in Connecticut is 56,000 dollars a year...not including books or anything, that's just tuition and room/board!

one day on 2011 I was in community college one girl I met from 4th grade waved to me and greeted me so we recognized each other but all of a sudden all she said for 6 minutes was personally uneducated and dumb remarks about me and she had a friend with her too and like friends she too even said to her about me yup he is that type of person. So I don't have respect for people like that. I'm just focusing on my doctors degree now not paying attention to people anymore.

I actually had a really bad experience going to university. I attended CSU in colorado, pretty excited to meet new people and start off the school year on a good note, but unfortunately I had some really unfriendly hall mates. My roommate had no interest in me. I literally made no friends for the entire semester I was there. So I decided to take a semester off after that and am now going to community college. I agree with the whole attendance thing, but it's actually helpful for me to make sure I don't skip too many classes. It is ironic how they call it 'community' college, as there's much less of a community than at an actual university. But I'm liking it. I'm glad I'm out of that terrible hall I was in.

I feel doomed because I saw the statistics that says how only 11.65% of people who studied at city college went on to get their bachelors degree. I'm super worried that it will be way too hard to get the rudimentary courses I need to take for achieving my GED. Also, I'm worried that the classes I take won't be credited for transfer as well. Did you have any of these problems?

Omg thank u soooo much!!!! I loved your advice. Yeah so I'm thinking of going to community College for like a year and then transferring. I want to save money and my GPS right now is only a 3.6 which is kinda bad for the college I want to go (need over a 4) so I'm planning on transferring. I guess I already have a head start cuz I am already taking 4 AP classes and took 3 last year (I'm a senior). I'm just hoping I don't get paired up with SUPER easy classes in community college and then when I go to a university the classes become hard as hell especially since I want to become a cyber security engineer. What would you say about that? And what are you majoring in?

How long did it take u to transfer? And what is your major? I'm a cc student going for a mechanical engineering major. I'm going into my 3rd year in cc and I predict I will do a total of 4 years before I transfer. I believe in "different majors, different things". Science and math majors have a lot more prerequisites.

Wow, your tuition was cheap compared to the rates in Pennsylvania! I know my local community college is $3,000 a semester and the local university that I attended for a while was $4,500, and the college that I had originally planned on attending, which is a state school, was $8,500 a semester. I would kill for those cheap rates!

ThroughMyEyes1515 hi I wanted to tell you that your video has given some relief because I'm about to start my senior year and I still haven't chosen my major but it'll be related to the health science field and I was also confused with the whole general credits thing. Now I see you're from Florida and so am I. Do you only receive the bright futures scholarship or do you have any other? I would really appreciate it if you reply. :-)

First Just talk to your consular frequently. Find something u love to do and see if you can study that subject. Get a part time job senior year. Junior year if u think u can do it but remember that is the most important academic year. I recommend work hard junior year get a job senior.

If you are worried about money and cannot receive a full ride right after high school, I would advise you to go to Community College, then transfer to a four year. I know Rutgers University- Newark has a Run to the top scholarship so if you are low income making 60,000 less for a household income, you do not have to pay for your tuition. There is an Honors Living Learning Community Scholarship at Rutgers University-Newark too which is for high school Newark residents and Community College Transfers which pays for your room and board if accepted. Put all that together you have a full-ride. You can obtain smaller scholarships to help pay for books! If you are low- income there is also the Jacke Cooke Foundation!

Hey, I'm from India and I'm thinking to apply to a community college in the US. I've chose Valencia College, Florida and I want to be a cinematographer and join a travel show channel. I want to join New York Film Academy and is it a good move to go to CC (Community College) and then take transfer to NYFA? And I haven't taken any tests like SAT or TOEFL but I've studied English for like 13 years. So, NYFA asks for TOEFL and good GPA and I want to know if I take CC will I get TOEFL and SAT waiver in Universities? And also improve my GPA at CC?
