The real harm came from the anti police protests, and the he open contempt from the public against police. Many Bay Area police retired early or quit to go look for work in a city where they were appreciated. As a result, many Bay Area cities, such as Oakland, SF,and Vallejo, have severely understaffed police departments. All of this has greatly emboldened criminals. This is the first time I've ever seen police departments having to put people on hold or forwarded to messages when calling 911. When I lived back east, black-on-black crime was out of control. Young black men, who were in gangs, were slaughtering each other like crazy. A large group of black mothers got together and pledged to stop the killings.Guess what, they walked the streets at night with big heavy bats and the killings stopped. One of the women started a training program with the corporation of the city of Philly. The young men were trained in up-grading dilapidated houses. We should start teaching certain skills in high school again. There's soultions, but who's going to start them???

Most people here earn a fraction of what those who live in the Bay earn, many live paycheck to paycheck. Yet they are polite, upbeat, helpful to one another, and expect that everyone be productive and held to account under the law. In conversations, they are completely baffled how Oakland, SF and LA, with all our natural advantages, voted to accelerate the dystopian slide into anarchy.
