Afternoon - please could I use a clip from this video, properly credited to you, in my Harley video? Many thanks.

Lobe separation angle can be changed, just not with a single cam engine. DOHC engines can change their intake and exhaust centerlines and thus their LSA. That's, basically, what's happening with modern variable valve timing - the computer is commanding the cams to constantly adjust their centerlines to provide the best performance for given driving condition.

Great video and helpful for the novice, well done. I 'd like to see something about cam shapes too. Some have quietening ramps, some are almost square in shape and some open the inlet quick and close slow, while exhaust lifts slow and closes fast.

camshaft lift and duration can alter the power and torque characteristics of 4 stroke engine. 2 similar engines with similar displacement capacities fitted with different camshaft lift and duration times can have a world of difference in terms of performance and consumption figures!

now computers can control the valves even with cams also. the best engines do not even have cams anymore only computer controlled magnets and buffers. i'm making mine pneumatic actuated valves that vary in size.
