Superb jam video always - I have been playing and writing music for 15 years through traditional instruments like guitar, piano, etc. I learnt to produce with ProTools when I was 5 years old some 17 years ago and I also played around with FL studio and Logic back then but none of them ever kept my interest, I'm super ADHD bi Polar hyper dude so when I'm tuned into something and loving it I really put the time in but when I'm not into something I tune out completely. Long story short, I started learning Ableton a few years ago and I love that DAW so it enabled me to get back into writing and producing electronic-based music again which I love. Ricky Tinez has been my main mentor for the past few years as I have worked to master both Ableton and also the Elektron devices and a selection of Aarturias hardware too. So just wanted to say a big thank you to Mr. Tinez from here in London England. Whenever I feel as though I'm losing motivation I tune into Ricky's videos and watching him explain and demo equipment and processes that I can take away and utilize myself - I always come away feeling re-invigorated and re-motivated to create as well as having a plan of action which always sees me good....Thank you, Ricky, I really do massively appreciate all of your rime and help! Please keep up the exceptional work!

Play notes with your forehead to get more polyphony. also, stacking machines on top of one another creates a more compressed sound...if that’s what you’re looking for.

@@NeilGuise kind of tricky. took me a while as well. - copy pattern ( function + record ) - press PTN + Trig/Pattern ( 1-16 ) that you want to copy to an hold them while pressing Paste ( Stop ) - Digitone should ask - "Paste Pattern?" - hold all 3 Buttons (PTN+Trig+Paste) until it says "Pasted 1 Pattern" then you can just switch to that pattern without stopping the sequencer =)

I've used that setup quite a lot, but the opposite way round: I have Digitone as Midi master, and TR-8S audio out to Digitone audio in. I also have the Digitone on the left :) I power mine from a power bank with a 12V output feeding into a portable inverter, mainly because Digitone likes super smooth power, and TR-8S has an unusual supply voltage (5.7V I think) so use the proper mains adapters for both. Sometimes I start on the drums, but mainly start with the Digitone, building sequences and patterns, then build the drums to suit.

I use a similar setup while in the pub, when I use these two, and power everything from battery. The TR-8S has a 5.7V power supply, so you have to use the included PSU. I use a powerbank with the output set to 12V, and feed that into a small portable inverter with a couple of mains sockets. Great what you can do with these things. Very portable.

TR-8s trigger by Midi/DAW? ..after recording parameter changes. Any thoughts, issues. I really found I enjoy sounds and mixing from gear and external FXs more than in the box, so the TR8s look interesting because of the outs.

I’m the same way with both of these, total noob, but I love hooking them up together they’re both the type of machines that you take one look at and just know that there’s gigatons of untapped potential lying within them, I too just wish I knew how to fully tap into it, great video once again tho man 👍

As a sequencer/sound making device I like the Digitakt over the TR8s, but as a hand-on performance tool the TR8s wins. Digitakt is pretty steep to learn, the TR8s is a lot more intuitive.

I absolutely love this series you've been doing!! It feels like something that was missing from the synth KZbin world. This is my favorite combo of instruments you've used for one of these. How do you like the TR8S? I bought the digitakt partially inspired by one of your videos a while ago and after about 6 months months ended up selling it and switched over to the TR8S and have loved it.

@@RickyTinez Roland has a common setup I see from my jd-xa to the tr-8s. Kind of like Elektron has it's workflow. Setting up system parameters so you start on your last kit and pattern is in the menu. The shift and other keys is Roland's go to shortcut. Remember you can change anything on that and if you don't save it turn it off and back on and it is back to how it was. But the power is in exploring the menu options it usually is with roland. There are sample settings and some great sound design tools. Assignable LEDs and effects packed are in there too. Learn the menu sections and there shortcuts and you can really get powerful on the fly.

Forgot to add gonna try a daw trick on it tonight to experiment with the side chain. Either assign a side chain to a short click sound like a seperate kick hit so you can have the kick grunt with out cutting so much. Food for thought man.

The new synth engine they added makes the TR-8S a lot more versatile, i think they probably added that update on the TR 8 too. but you can just add 1-2 scaled instruments instead of cymbals or rim shots and put some lfo and filters on those to make some cool melodic sections.
@LucIndustries
@LucIndustries 4 жыл бұрын
also most synths could "do the same" broadly speaking, really depends on what sounds you want to make and how you want to make them

good morning Ricky. I wanted to see one thing about those two machines that I can't solve. The tr-8s does not change the digitone program on time. If I do the reverse if it works, Digitone changing TR. But I am interested in the Tr-8S being the master so that the digitone makes another instrument a slave. Congratulations on your videos, very good. greetings from the Canary Islands

Hey Ricky, This video is a few months old as of me posting this reply. I noticed your tr-8 down in your basement studio in another recent video, but you always seem to do videos with one of your drumbrutes. I’m curious if you just didn’t jell with the tr-8 workflow, or if you just find the drumbrutes a bit more “immediate”... or is at simple as you are more comfortable with a given drum machine simply because you have way more hours under your belt with it? Also, I haven’t noticed the digitone in other videos and am curious if there are any reasons for that? Only ask as I love fm synthesis and was considering the digitone as a way to handle it without a computer in the mix. I realize it could be as simple as you got some new toys and they have your attention, or sound more inspiring, at the moment... or you even just like specific drum machines for specific monikers you have.... but I figured i’d ask.

Great jam and happy to see the TR-8S join your set-up. Funny that you mention enjoying a phaser on the whole track cause I did exactly that in *my* TR-8S #jamuary video! :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4TXeHh3oayFm80 For performing with the TR-8S I find it helps to leave it in mute mode to bring different voices in and out. Easier to push a few buttons at the same time than manage 2+ faders. Looking forward to seeing more!
