I avoided Gale as much as I could, every time I tried to romance Shadowheart but had to have the LITTLEST of interactions with Gale around, it seemed he was easily aroused by anything I would do or say, so I accidentally ended up romancing him. Started a new game, chose to slap the hand and ignore his existence completely. He was a "nice guy".😊

I do find it weird that they never really talk about the fact that if he explodes, everyone in the party will die. They always frame it as just a suicide. I let him explode at the end of part 2 the first time, and then the credits rolled and everyone died and I was like "...oh"

It does. After the 3rd time you feed him and he comes clean, he offers to leave the party. It’s clear that that is because he is a danger to everyone. When Elminster task him to kill himself there is a dialogue option saying “am I safe around you?” And another one somewhere along the line of “it’s not fair to us”. During a night cutscene in Act 2 when he is contemplating detonating himself, there is a dialogue option telling him he will kill a lot of people in the process and he responds it will be far less than if the absolute is allowed to go uncheck.
