b3 and a- 100 are the same organ, only differance is the cabinet dont be fooled by that. To me the a -100 packs way more bass than any of the models and its affordable, trust me the b3 is just pretty thhats all your buying it basically for its cabinet save your money unless you really got it like that get an a-100 you wont be disappointed! or if you want to go digital the new digital hammond b3 sucks however the mini b is really really nice!

My A 100 has the great sound coming out in your "stomach" from the 3 incorporated speakers and the possibility to link the speakers sound with the Leslie gives a quite special sound effect. I was able to create a strong very good cover to protect the keyboards and we are traveling since 1969 nicely and always in perfect condition. Here: andromedalibrary.org/en/music/my-hammond

i agree completely...a lot of churches are now using the a100's and they have found that the A'S are as comparable to the B and C models due to the same generator being in all 3 of em,they are just a hell of a lot cheaper in price...the A models were primarily made for home use and speakers were added in the cabinet to save space at home so that there was no need for a tone cabinet.B3,C3 and A100 all playing at the same time with the same model leslie, you couldnt tell a difference at all...

He could mention that the A-100 also has self-contained speakers which the B-3 and C-3 do not (not Leslie speakers though). The A-100 also has built-in adjustable reverb which the B-3 and C-3 do not. The D-3 is the concert model with a 32 note AGO pedalboard and the additional pedal solo unit. The A-100 series and B-3 and C-3 have a 25 note pedal board.

Most people think that B3 has a mellow sound and C3 has a more growly and distorted sound..and A100 is a 'crappy' Hammond. All this because B3 was used mainly in american 'softer' blues and jazz music and C3 by Jon Lord and Keith Emerson above all. A100 was instead used at home. Great video!

In my opinion, the best improvement to stock Hammond bass pedals are to disconnect (and ground) the Orange and Yellow wires (2-2/3,' 2,' & 1-3/5,' 1-1/3') from the pedal harness. This creates a bass tone similar to the manual setting 88 8800 000. The Tenth Harmonic (a temp;ered1-3/5') often clashes with Left Hand Chords.

I have owned two hammonds. (A100 and a chopped B2 with Trek Pre) The A100 was purchased off of ebay and has the typical little old church lady story line. After playing a lot of other models, I came to the realization that "out of the box" the spinet models were the way to go. paired with a 760 leslie, that A100 would peel paint unmodified. My B2 chop sees a lot of road use, and frankly not my favorite organ, but only because I haven't taken the time to go through it. (one of these days)

The A-100 series were NOT spinets Spinet organs (M series, L series, T series) have only 44 keys per manual. The A-100 series were full console organs, having 61 keys per manual. The A-100 was marketed as a console organ for the living room. Hammond was responding to the customers who wanted a full size Hammond, but did not have the roon for the external tone cabinet. Since the A-100 series was designed for the living room, it was offered in various colors, and cabinet styles to match the customers decor. The last two digits of the model number denoted the cabinet style. For example, the A-102 had the same components as the A-100, but was in a French Provincial cabinet. The A-105 is an A-100 in a C-3 case.

@@SuperTastyBiscuit First of all, I am a Hammond Organ repair man, offering full service repairs and rebuilds. I am familiar with all models of the tonewheel generator models. Second, I currently own four A-100s, two BC's, a CV, an X-77, and a Model A. and numerous Leslies. In my area "spinet" organs (M series, L series, T series, etc.) have no value. Nor do they have the range. I have scrapped out many spinet models, because of this. As far as your tomato comparison, the A-100 would be like a beef-steak tomato, while a spinet would be more like a cherry tomato. As you probably know, the A-100 is the same organ as a B-3 or C-3, which are console organs, but in a different case, and have a built in sound system. Calling an A-100 a 'spinet' is misinforming the reader. BTW, in my opinion, the A, the BC, or the D are the best sounding organs Hammond ever built. My rehearsal rig a '38 BC, with add on percussion and reverb, (with a Leslie 31H, modified for 2 speed). My road rig is a custom built '67 A-100, (with a 242 Leslie, or a 760).

@@scottbc31h22 I'm not concerned about readers. I consider an A to be a spinet because it's the babiest of B's, small and boxy. take it or leave it. You wanna have a conversation, fine. I couldn't disagree more. The fact is, the B3, C3 And just about all A's have the same tone generator and preamp. the only difference is the cabinet it's in. A mellow organ is usually one that needs recapping, re-tubing and or readjusting. Any one of the models could suffer from that and do. As for "growly and distorted", the stock preamp is designed to create a fairly clean tone. The growl and distortion comes from over driving the pre-amp tube in the leslie.

Comparing the sound of the organs by model is pretty much impossible. The B-3 and C-3 are identical in their sound generation and user interface. The only difference is the wood cabinet they are in. The A-100 series of organs uses the exact same components, the difference being the cabinet and the addition of an internal sound system. However, there were changes made to these organs to update the circuitry. The changes were made to all models. That being said, there are numerous other factors that effect the sound of a Hammond organ. Each organ has it's own voice and characteristics (much like guitars). I always recommend that someone looking to purchase a Hammond should audition numerous organs, before making a purchase. If possible, hire a qualified tech to inspect the organ before purchase, especially if purchasing from a private owner. and, NEVER purchase an organ based on it's looks. One other note (for churches who have been donated an organ). A free organ is rarely "free". It will almost always need some repair. And, people will donate a non desirable organ to a church, thinking they are helping the church, but the church is stuck with trying to dispose of said organ.

Actually, in a blind-fold test you cannot tell the difference between those three models. As Jim said, coming down the assembly-line the "mechanics" for all three are the same, and only until installed into a cabinet does the nomenclature identify which model. Actually, without percussion turned on on a B/C3/A100 there is NO difference in tone compared to my C-2 (percussion being the only difference between the 2 and the 3).

+moedemama Different Vintages have different sounds (most notably the Late 60s-Early 70s vintage, also was the better crew at the plant was on). Some of the Best and Worst sounding TW Hammonds come from this 69-75 period. If I had a Hammond of this vintage, I would be tempted to replace the manuals with ones out of a Late BV or CV, because the mechanics are more reliable. I've owned 3 Pre-WWII Hammonds and 5 Post WWII "-2," "-3" and an A-100 (not all at the same time). Different Speakers also come into the mix as well. I have a BCV (c1937 sans Chorus Generator and + Vibrato Kit & B= Supply) that sounds exceptional through a 46W Leslie I have, The same Leslie sounds "adequate" on an A-100 I have at a club, but due to limited storage space I use the 46W, in the club because the 247 I also have takes up too much floor space.

So, why they always build Wersis and other things, while most people prefer the old hammods ? Cant they build this old organs again? With same parts, same design, same attitudes, Drawbars and so on? I dont need all this nick nack, i just want an original-sounding organ with drawbars and not this organ registers, done .

@@ncilmo Hammond's first organ was the Model A. The case was a box on four legs, a bit smaller than what we know as a B case. The model C was introduced in response to customers feedback (primarily churches) not liking the cabinet, partly due to it showing the legs of lady players, and partly because they wanted the traditional church organ console look. Shortly after, the Model BC was introduced, which added a second generator to generate the chorus effect, requiring a larger cabinet. The original A case was expanded to accommodate. The additional generator was also added to the Model C organ, and called the Model D. After introducing the BC, Hammond stopped building the model A cabinet, instead they built the Model A in the BC style case, calling it the Model AB.
