I'm done with plastic mats. I bought some floor underlayment and some peel and stick tiles and made the best mat I ever had. It took no tools because Home Depot cut the underlayment to the size I needed.

If you are handy you could buy some 12" sq carpet squares and make your own chair mat, possibly with some kind of non-slip material as the base that you attach the squares to. I've had the plastic mats and hate them. They slide all over the place and they look horrible.
