This is good, but it might be a little over-engineered. 3/4" ply is a bit much, and adds a ton of weight and cost. You could get by with 1/4 or 1/2" OSB as your substrate, then use a hardwood edge, rabbeted to allow you to use one piece and overlay the corner. Some might not have the tools to do a rabbet, so your method works great. And, a roundover on your inside edge would reduce any damage from chair wheels rolling up against it. Nice work.

¼ is too thin for some people, me for example. The carpet it goes on just can't handle it and the weight that goes on it. ¾ worked very well for me. It'll depend on the use.

@@no_handle_required Yeah...1/4" wouldn't be enough, but 1/2" should be...I'm a big dude with a big chair, so we'll see what happens. LOL

Thing is 3/4 might be a little thick, but it's not as popular size as a 1/2 so a lot of times 3/4 will be cheaper to buy than 1/2.

I just put down a sheet of 6mm MDF. Quick and easy solution when the office chair is hard to push over carpet.

Is it possible to use a 4 X 8 sheet of hardboard from Home Depot? I'ts actually hard, and you can cut a sheet in half and have two floorings for the chairs?

I'd imagine a sheet of hardboard isn't hard enough to replace the plywood. It is basically the same material that a clipboard is made of, if that helps you imagine it. It could probably replace the wooden flooring panels though

I would think that hardboard might work if the carpet is not too thick (ie is low pile). If plush (high pile) carpet and when the chair rolled it might be a bit "wobbly". I've got engineered hardwood left over and am deciding between 1/4" or 7/16" OSB for under it. The 7/16" might make the overall height a bit too high though. Still thinking.

I already have a pretty hard chair mat but a wheel finally wore thru it and is cracking in that spot. I will keep the old chair mat i place, and cut a hardboard sheet exact size and put it on top so it has a flat support. That may work pretty good for a few more years. THUMBS UP!!!

@@danieldaponte1819 I found a 6mm MDF sheet to be plenty hard enough.

It’s cool. But high. If you don’t wear shoes, you’ll likely stub your toe at some point.

Does the weight of this not permanently indent ur carpet over time?

I made it with Woodglut plans!

Woodglut is a scam and just another name for Ted's Woodworking plans - someone who has stolen plans and videos from all over the Internet and is selling them as if they are theirs.
