Thank you for this. I have the Switch but I use the base plate and cutting plate from the regular big shot as it’s cheaper to replace the smaller plates. I save the big plates for when I have lots of cutting to do.

Hi Missy. Very interesting review. I can only speak to my experiences with the Gemini Junior. Sadly it did not live up to my expectations. Soon after purchasing the Gemini Junior, my plates were seriously warped as was the metal shim. I went back to my Big Shot which has never let me down. I’ve been using Sizzix for years and when they came out with the switch I was excited! It’s been amazing! Tomorrow my black switch plus arrives. I have the Big Shot and Gemini Jr. I use the sandwich Jennifer McGuire recommends...with the double sided die plates...so far no probs with warping. Loved your recommendations and takes on these. I can’t really afford another machine...had both out for Christmas cards...but if I needed another one... this has been so helpful. You really are amazing in your hacks and trouble shooting. I have the Gemini. I’m glad you told everyone about the advantage of the original size over the Junior. Being able to use both the large plates and the Junior plates was the reason I went with the original. I mostly use Junior plates, but it is sure nice to have the large size for larger dies like many of the longer dies from Pinkfresh. And the overall footprint between the original and the Junior isn’t all that different.

I am so grateful for this video! I don't know which to get. I own the Spellbinders cranking large die machine. I am not a spring chicken and cranking the handle takes effort. The pink Switch plus “cherry blossom” color right now is back in-Stock on scrapbook.com. Hi Missy, another great video! It's been a bit since I've been on YT either making or watching craft vids but I always enjoy your videos, they are so informative with clearly understood instructions! I have both the Switch and the large Gemini, the Switch is definitely my favorite, as well as the glimmer hot foil system, both are so easy to use. The Gemini worked great but the plates would warp so much that I had to replace them and they are quite pricey, however the plates for the Switch have slight warping, nothing bad at all. Currently the Gemini is in my craft hutch as I prefer the Switch and have it out ready to use. Thanks for sharing all the tips. 😊

Hello Kim! I feel like the Sizzix is definitely less warping. I absolutely love it!!! You will get terrible warping on Gemini plates with using that white milky shim. I get less warping after replacing it. This is just my preferred way to cut and I’ve always had great results. I have a lot of cut marks already on my cutting plate that would transfer to my card stock if I cut into the self healing mat. Hope that makes sense. 🥰 🤗 Hugs!

Thank you so very much for this tutorial. I just received my Switch machine and was having a to add shim after shim in order to get a Gemini 3D embossing folder to emboss. I was tempted but afraid to use the magnetic platform. Just a note, I chose the Switch because the majority of my dies are Sizzix and I have quite a few BigZ dies. I like that I can use all my Sizzix products with it and that it is electronic and has a larger opening than my Vagabond. Also, I do have the Glimmer Foiling system and being able to use it in the Switch is a plus. This is the perfect video. You covered so many questions. Thank you again, for being the "brave one" and testing out all the possibilities.

Hello Robin. I don’t currently have any Stampin Up 3D folders to try. But I’m pretty sure you would only use one clear cutting plate with your base platform, and you just need about 3-4 card stock shims to lay on top your platform to get a great emboss. It should work great! Sorry I don’t have any of them to personally try out. I need to get me some of them though, they look beautiful!! 🤗🤗❤️❤️

That milky white shim can warp really fast and make your clear plates warp. Thank you so much! I don’t have much warping at all with the Sizzix. The Gemini plates warp a lot more, but have never been an issue for me. I use my Sizzix all the time for cutting. The Gemini only gets used if I have to cut through several pieces of thick material at one time. It can definitely be intimidating for sure Aida! Once you get your cricut all hooked up, you honestly won’t know what you ever did without it. If you buy the extra subscription to use all their cricut projects, there are loads of things you can make! It’s so much fun!Just start slow with it. It takes time to learn new things. Especially cricut. Also, never be afraid to ask for help. 🤗🤗🤗 Sometimes it’s easier to have a friend come over to help get things up and running. I have the Original Cricut since 2008 and a good friend gave me her Cricut Expression that is still brand New. Because she couldnt use it because Of her Son who is very Autistic so she ended up staying at home with him Because he could not go to school Anymore so she is his teacher. Since it’s the Cricut expression machine, you might have a hard time getting it to work. Cricut stopped providing support for the old computer application Design Studio and made it nearly impossible to use. If you have cartridges, you should be able to still cut with it on its own. But I’m not sure if you will be able to use design studio since they stopped updating and supporting the program. 😢😢😢 I’m sorry. 😞

With the switch machine do you need the magnetic and chrome plate.

Hello Brenda. ❤️ The Switch Plus comes with the large plate system so you don’t need the magnetic platform. I have the magnetic platform because I love using smaller plates when not cutting huge dies and I love that the magnetic platform holds the dies in place. ❤️ I don’t own the chrome plate. The Switch plus cuts all my intricate dies perfectly. If it’s super intricate, just run through twice. I’m afraid of the chrome plate damaging my dies over time so I have not purchased it. Hello Danica. ❤️ If you replace the white milky shim with a cut down fiskars self healing cutting mat, you will not have the plates warp so bad. That white shim causes a lot of warping. At least that had been my experience. Hugs, Missy 🤗🤗❤️

You you should be able to get the peach color from your local hobby lobby store. It definitely hides dusts and prints better. I have both the peach and the black machines. The black machine shows ALL the toe bean prints from my kitties like crazy! The peach one isn’t like that. The pink version on scrapbook .com’s website is impossible to find too. It’s sold out all the time. The switch plus machines are Amazing! I just have to clean the black one more often than my peach one. Hope this helps. Thank you for such a great video! QUESTION; Do you know if, in the Big Shot Switch, you can use the old Sizzix Sizzlits dies (they are thin black and grey squared dies). I have a lot of them that I still love to use. I thought I remember Tim Holtz saying that you can use them in the Switch without the adapter plate (just the base plate and both cutting dies) but I have never actually seen anyone use them on a video.

I have some of those small square dies and I can’t remember right off if I tried them in the Switch. My only thing that I’m thinking is, using them may actually warp your plates really bad and may leave deep marks on the clear plate. I can test it out on my sorbet machine if you’d like me to do that. I can try to test it for you tomorrow. The Switch machine is amazing and I love it! 😍

I just looked at the instruction manual online and it specifically shows the sandwich for the sizzlits! Yay! I just haven’t seen anyone do it yet.

@@laurynecunningham900 Use your thick standard cutting plate on the bottom, clear cutting plate, cardstock , cutting die with cutting side down into cardstock, clear plate on very top. This is how I ran it through my machine and it works. I had forgotten I sold all my dies like that. However, I did keep 2 small snowflake ones and ran them through my machine. Love the sizzix. Be honest, I had the Gemini Junior and it worked great for several months. I was tired of replacing plates. Literally threw it out

Yes, Gemini dies can work, but the really intricate dies might have trouble cutting through all the way. The switch plus does an amazing job cutting intricate dies. Hope this helps. Hugs, Missy 🤗🤗❤️❤️

It’s the best foil machine in my opinion if you’re looking to get one. Very simple to use. I demo it with my Switch Plus Machine in a video on my channel if you’re interested in that. You will be able to see how great it works. I highly recommend the Glimmer. 🤗❤️❤️ I love it!

I just purchased a Big Shot Switch Plus machine. I've gotten my plates stuck! I have the correct sandwich. I have not found any place where there is trouble shooting for this type of problem. Has this ever happened to you? What is the remedy? I can't wiggle them out.

Oh gosh Sandy! 😱 No this hasn’t has not happened to me. But there were a few videos when the machine first came out of plates getting stuck. But it only happened to a few people. Sizzix had to send them a new machine I believe, because it was defective. Did you turn on and off the machine and then quickly try to reverse the plates back out?

Hi iv just this week bought the switch now iv never tried it yet still in box today I have just recieved in post the presion chrome plate can I use it in my switch machine I also have the bigshot express which I was lead to believe I can use it in that machine I have the bigshot plus and I know I can't use it in thar machine so am I right in believing I can use the plate in the switch and the express I am in a small craft group and we purchased the gemini and to be honest I don't like it one little bit I just can't get away with it I do like my sissix machines

Hello Linda! 🥰 Yes you can use the precision chrome plate in your Switch and Express machines. The directions for the Switch using the chrome plate are located on the Thin A Adapter plate. I have the Gemini. It does cut nicely, but the plates are too complicated and they are expensive to replace. It bugs me that the plates aren’t sold as a pair. I do want the Switch, but I can’t justify it with having several other die cutting machines.

I completely understand Dina. ❤️ I own a lot of die cutting machines as well, but at the time of purchase I was looking to upgrade from my bigkick because I couldn’t cut intricate dies with it and it was driving me absolutely bonkers. Hello Natasha! 🥰 Yes, I have always cut into my 1 cutting plate. When I replaced the milky shim with the self healing mat it just didn’t make sense to me to cut into it, because I wouldn’t have cut into the milky shim ever. But with that being said, my plate was completely scratched up with cut marks so I never changed it. I’m getting ready to run some test with some new products I bought to see if I can use them with the Gemini and get great results. I might start cutting into my self healing mat just to see if that changes anything, but I’d need to replace that one cutting plate to do the testing. @@arashy I don’t think there is.🤷🏼‍♀️ The plus might be referring to the accessories that came with the machine I’m not certain. It’s also possible other countries might have just left the plus off the name. I honestly don’t know. But it all seems to be the same machine and nothing different from what I can tell. 🥰 If anyone else knows hopefully they will chime in on this with the answer.

I have a Switch and a Gemini Pro. I bought the switch to use Bigz dies. The Pro does warp plates fast but I use smaller plates and that seems to help the warping.

You’re absolutely correct Ramona. ❤️I definitely find that the larger the plates the more the plates can warp. I love using the little plates the most in all my machines. I've been Crafting for more than 30-years & have never used any type of Die-Cutting Machine! Needless to say, There's been A LOT of fussy-cutting over the years! But due to Peripheral Nueropathy, It's getting much more difficult to cut things out. I'm hoping to find someone who has a manual Die-Cutting Machine & has now upgraded to A Cricut or another Digital Machine & are getting rid of their older machine for a price I might be more able to afford! (PLEASE LMK if you know anyone who has a Die-Cutter they aren't using!!! LOL)

I totally am with you on the price Erica. The machines are so expensive, but if you love crafting it definitely makes things easier and faster. ❤️ I remember back in the day when I drew up all my pieces and cut them out by hand. These machines save me so much time and the wear and tear on my hands, since I have trouble with my hands. I saved up my money and started out with the Sizzix Bigkick and it was such a game changer. @@therealbmatt2 I just got my replacement from Sizzix and it’s working good so far. It isn’t loud and don’t snap as it’s pulling through and it takes the plates in slower. My was acting badly from day one till the point it stopped turning on
