Greetings to you all. I started making cards at the end of May 2023 and this hobby is expensive. I have been researching, comparing prices, reading reviews, etc. I decided to go with the hand crank Sizzex Big Shot and I ❤ it. We have frequent power outages down here and when it happens, I pull out my camping light and keep rocking and rolling. Maybe later, when I hit the mid 70's, I'll go for an electric one. 😂😂

I stated that I just got mine from Hobby Lobby as when I ordered it, Scrapbook was out of stock. It is a pretty coral color not pink and not orange. It is called Sherbet and it is very pretty. It came in 2 days free shipping. I have only cut one die with it but loving it already.... Something I wasn't really prepared to spend money on right now but reading Mary's review after reading a bunch else where, I had to get it.... I will cry when my credit card bill comes.... That is ok, I can blame it on Mary! No, j/k! Thanks Mary and I hope others that are on the fence about it, when they can.... get it. I love my manual Big Shot Plus!! I usually only use it with very large dies, but no machine is perfect - and neither are the dies. I grabbed my manual the moment that the electronic Switch version came out, and I'm glad that I did as the manual ones are now hard to buy. Our large local craft outlet doesn't even stock them anymore, and I can't imagine how the Switch will hold up in the long term .. nothing with an electric motor ever does!

I love my new Switch machine and was able to get it for a great price the day Tim showed his live on his KZbin channel. I love it and it's performed great EXCEPT Sizzix has not released a crease pad that works with it yet. I was very frustrated trying to run a TH Bigz L 3-D star die through it and it kept cutting the score lines. I tried all my platforms and all my plates. Needless to say I wasn't a happy camper but knew I still have my Big Shot Pro (which doesn't have enough pressure all over for intricate dies) which cuts AND SCORES that die beautifully. Sizzix is coming out with a new crease pad that will fit the Switch but I'm not sure when. Other than the crease pad issue I had nothing but a great experience with this machine. I got a turntable because of where I placed the machine but it really wasn't necessary. It really is a small footprint for such a large platform and I LOVE LOVE that all of my other Sizzix products will work with it. (Sorry, this was so long.) Happy you FINALLY got yours.
@laurabuehler2 жыл бұрын
I think the Big Shot Plus crease pad should work...they are the same size. I've been told the cutting pads work in the Switch, so I would think the crease pad would work.
@kcinca54102 жыл бұрын
@@laurabuehler Sizzix's website specifically says they are making a crease pad for the Switch so I'm not inclined to order another which may or may not solve my problem. I have the extended crease pad which works fine in my Big Shot Pro. The Sizzix website says all the crease pads are 1/8" thick. I'm thinking the new crease pad for the Switch needs to be a bit thinner to avoid cutting instead of creasing but thanks for your input. And yes, all my other Sizzix platforms and various plates work fine in the Switch. The crease pad is the only thing I couldn't get to work properly and I tried EVERY combination of platform and plate that I have. 🤷🏻♀️

@@marypolancodesigns it's a soft plastic cutting plate to use with the Bigz dies (instead of one cutting plate) that has crease (fold) blades instead of cutting blades so you easily fold the paper for your 3-D dies. It's supposed to stop the fold blades from cutting the paper and instead only score them but the current crease plate is too thick to do the job properly. Hope this makes sense/helps.

The only one that i had to watch was the msm you have to graduate increase it over time. Start with a very small amount take with vitamin c to stop any itching. It acts as a detox so if you get a headache cut back. If you start itching take more vitamin c to stop itching. It does make your hair grow so if your hairy it will make it worse. Im not hairy so it works great for me. So your research there are so many things to help with pain. I can get out of bed now. This video is 2 yrs old. Do you still have the Switch and are you still happy with it? I've been reading a lot of negative comments, but I'm ready to make the "switch" (see what I did there 🙂) to an electric machine to cut my dies.
@marypolancodesigns4 ай бұрын
So glad you asked this question. I do still love it but there are also things to consider as to maybe why. I use the large magic mat from Scrapbook com instead of one of the cutting plates because it keeps me from having to buy them more often. They are not cheap (the acrylic cutting plates) so I find by substituting with a magic mat it helps. I occasionally have to use a shim but that is product dependent and not the machine issue. I love how much more quiet it is than the Gemini and that the surface is so large. I wanted to keep my BIGZ dies so this was my choice over the Gemini. People love the Empress but you have to get what works best for your needs. If you want to check out the magic mats and their sizes here you go: shrsl.com/4nr93
@idzzin4all4 ай бұрын
@@marypolancodesigns Thank you. I ask because I'm also looking into the "Couture Creations GoPower & Emboss Machine". It too will allow use of the BIGZ dies. I've seen mixed reviews on the Switch, but I follow you extensively and wanted your opinion after using it.

Thanks Mary for doing the review. I REALLY WANT ONE NOW, but with having bought my Big Shot Manual Cutter and the Brother Scan and Cut in the last 3 months, I can not buy a Switch for awhile. 😢Maybe I can sell my Big Shot being I have hardly used it. Oh well, just have to wait and see.

Yes, I have my Switch on my Totally Tiffany Clip & Create 9x11 Rotating Design Board (I wasn’t using it much for anything else anyway). I LOVE this solution, which I got from watching Cathy Z as she uses it for her Gemini machine. I leave my Switch/turntable out on a counter all the time, pushed to the back out of the way when not in use, and moved forward and rotated 90 degrees when in use. I am now using my machine much more often since it is always ready to go 😍😍😍

I saw the switch machine reviewed on you tube and really thought I needed it (even though I already have the big shot). I didn't pull the trigger on getting one. After that I was at a crop and someone at the table behind us had one and it was SO loud! It was sort of disruptive to everyone in the area which is making me reconsider. Do you find how loud it is to be a problem? Thanks.

Hi Jennifer, the sound is definitely something to consider if that's not attractive to you. I don't mind it at all and find it a lot quieter than the Gemini.

Thank you for the video. I have a question. There is a review of this machine on one of the sellers that said Sizzex would not honor the warranty because a Magic Mat was used. When you used two Magic Mats how did it do? Are you afraid you may have voided your warranty? Thank you.
@marypolancodesigns2 ай бұрын
Hi there, great question. I haven't had any issues with my machine using the magic mat although I understand why they would void the warranty if used with a product they didn't research for their machine. If i use 2 magic mats, I use them as a replacement for the plates and then see what kind of additional shim I might need for added pressure.

Try using another piece of cardstock over your project or card to protect it. When the plates get divets or grooves from the dies over time, they will transfer those marks to your paper. This might help protect them a bit more.

I am also thinking of getting the Spellbinders hot foil machine to use with it, but am trying to have some self control! Anyway, thanks for your tips! The only die cutting machine I ever used was a 24" wide commercial plotter. We used to make advertising balloons and tents. I'm really glad I bought this, only it would be great to have it handle computer generated cuts. Only I don't want to buy a Crickut because it is a paid subscription.
