its so easy on an upper lower split to have an amazing intermediate experience... gives you room for strength and hypertrophy, getting that big mover mindset cranked up as well, fits well with 3's, 5's, 8's, and more. and if you throw in an arm day and some serious arm work on your upper days you can really crank the arm frequency. Thats what I love about upper lower.

One way you can negate one of the cons you mentioned about upper lower is just training arms on lower days. This also balances out the session length I noticed, and will usually fix the issue of arms not growing since they are now getting hit fresh.

i just started 3x a week full body this week, it was a challenge and volume/intensity as well as poundages really have to be measured up but i enjoyed it, and it in my opinion offers the most creative freedom of all the splits, i could have a more torse focused day a more leg day or a more arm day but at the same time it gives me a chance to experiment with supersets i never did curls and kettlebell bench before and honestly i'm kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner

Awesome video as always. Full body 3x week is basically the perfect dad split. It's not "optimal" but it still gets me 90% there. I'm 32 father of 3, and, adding in a full time job, 3hrs a week at the gym is about all I can manage. It's workin great though and I'd recommend for anyone in a similar situation. One thing I use that's really helpful in a time crunch, along with superset, was something from the doggcrapp method: 3x5 on big lifts, multi rep rest-pause on accessory work. 1x10-15, 2 x rest 30s go-to fail. Go up 5lb once you hit 15 on first set. Very similar to what you've recommended but also lets me get as much as i can in the limited time i have. With this, i can spend 20min on the main lift then 40 on the remaining while getting plenty of work in.

Im Also 32, just got married so busy now. Recently switched to full body 3X week. Not really trying or expecting to make gains. No time to bulk. Just tryna not go backwards. I’m actually having a lot of fun with a “minimalist” routine even knowing it’s not “optimal”. Monday : dips, chins, trap bar dead Wed : some typa shoulder press, heel elevated squat, tri push downs/dumbbell curls Friday: bench, squat, skull crush/EZ bar curls I randomly throw in calves, lateral raises, and abs. I just can't wrap my head around the idea of leaving my full body routine to do upper/lower... I can do 10 to 11 exercises in one hour and ten minutes average (supersets) and prioritize one or two areas at a time (say high volume for back/traps) and moderate and low volumes for other muscles, which is not bad because you can't prioritize everything in any program anyway
@uchihadna920 Жыл бұрын
Do you have an example of how you structured your program?
@DusmaEduardo Жыл бұрын
@@uchihadna920 basically you start the workout with heavy movements that you want to prioritize in that given day, and you superset (do one exercise, rest for some time and do the other) based on antagonist muscle groups , 'non close muscles' and gym space/equipments convenience... When I had a decent gym membership I did upper lower because you do get the work evenly spread out. Alternating between vertical/horizontal for push/pull compounds. However I couldn't afford that gym so I swapped to the public community which charges 2.5 per entry. So I adapted to 3xfullbody. Though the workout time and energy is more demanding. Feels good knowing I'm hitting OHP/pull ups 3 times a week. My work place has a cable machine so I'm able to get arm days on the alternate days I'm not at the gym.

I do the full push or pull day then hit the legs. Sometimes i'll slide the leg workouts in between my later sets if the equipment is open. Overall only adds ~20-30 minutes and gives me an extra rest day to work on my studies. I also have knee and lower back problems so splitting up my lower body lifts helps a lot.

I like to do a hybrid split where I include both full body and upper/lower workouts depending on how many times I can do full workouts that week; with the goal of hitting each major muscle group 3x/wk. 3 d/wk: Full x3 4 d/wk: Full x2, Upper x1, Lower x1 5 d/wk: Full x1, Upper x2, Lower x2 6 d/wk: Upper x3, Lower x3 Each of these workouts is about 1-2 hours. I keep a high work rate by super-setting almost everything (with exception of bilateral barbell exercises). I aim to keep my workouts between 2-3 minutes/set (including warmup, set up, rest). Since I work out mostly from home I’ll add in mini accessory workouts (20-30 minutes) throughout the week that are basically like a circuit for one body part (I.e shoulders, arms, forearms, hips, lower legs). Let’s me fit in the neglected movements/muscles that I can’t fit into my full workouts.

I personally love chest/tri, back/bi, legs, shoulders/arms, repeat. Unpopular opinion but I think people put frequency on a pedestal for muscle gain. As long as you are progressing and attacking each muscle with roughly 12-14 hard sets a week you will grow IMO. I tried high frequency and lower frequency and I love destroying 1-2 muscle groups at a time!
@croissantrophy.channel Жыл бұрын
I don't think frequency is put on a pedestal... maybe for some muscles like back, many people say to train it every day. But at the end of the day frequency is just a tool to distribute volume. You say you need ~14 sets a week per muscle, it's up to you to do them in a single day, or two, three... but someone that might need ~30 sets a week for a particular muscle it wouldn't make sense to do them in a single day. That's when adding frequency is useful. Frequency for the sake of frequency serves no purpose, manipulating it without taking into account the other variables makes no sense.
@Rakyr Жыл бұрын
@@croissantrophy.channel that is what I mean though, people often think “ahhh, higher frequency is better”. But I think it depends on how you enjoy training. I love just going all in, training hard and obliterating a muscle without worrying if I am going to be too sore to train it 4 days later. Also the split does not matter overall, as long as you are progressing and you use a moderate amount of volume you are golden.

I know your full body method is a little different from the anterior/posterior split (i.e. push + quads/pull + hams) so I do think the purer version of that is worthy of consideration in the lifting meta, especially since you can do a 7 day version Another potential meta I'd be interested in seeing you experiment with is a 14 day split. It's not unusual with many powerlifters but I've seen almost no one doing it for hypertrophy. It solves the problem a lot of us have with a 10 day split

Full body is kinda hard to warmup etc, I find it more prone for injuries for the same weight I would use in the split Major benefit to full body is that it makes your reconsider what truly works and what is junk volume The problem is that the fatigue is coming quick too compared to the split, you can go balls to the wall on each exercises. In the full body training, my back is not getting enough damage as I would like because it is a muscle group that became really resilient as I progressed. (Same for the arms too)

Upper lower upper lower is fine, but I personally enjoy upper upper upper lower. Currently on finding out if my upper body can take the volume because I like it stacked, but point is i wanna grow as fast as possible in regards to my physique goals, lifting for size for now. Do you have an opinion on this split, based on functionality? Monday, Wednesday and Saturday are upper body w/ some hamstrings on Wednesday, and Sunday is a dedicated leg day. Gotta look out for that posterior chain tbh, some new movements i like tend to activate it, maybe a bit too much for my liking.

I'm in a weird spot due to life where I can lift Sunday Monday and thursday. So I do upper lower on Sunday Monday and a full body Thursday. Made a lot of progress this way so I guess I'm kinda both

I'm gonna try out one upper day, one lower day, and one full body day to get best of both worlds

I train with weights 3 days a week typically and do abs on those days, but am seriously thinking I should be hitting abs every day

I have been trying your Bald Swordsman program for 2 weeks and it is the perfect tool for training that I needed, yet didn’t know how to apply properly. I am trying my hardest and seeing how that transforms me months from now. By the way, that rest part of the program does mean the recommended amount of time to rest per set correct?
