Laura, your awareness of simple things like clearing back the dirt so people can see the edge of the hole is awesome. You never “um” or “err”, you speak fluidly and confidently, and then with Aaron’s camera and editing skills, your videos literally put many TV gardening shows to shame. I’m forever thankful of your skills, and knowledge, and that you are willing to share your unfolding garden with us!

At 74 I have a hard time holding a drill. Sigh... It is so frustrating. Laura is right, go with DeWalt drills! Hubby bought one from somewhere that stopped working while I was hanging curtain rods! I went and bought a Dewalt Just to finish my project! At first, he was mad that I spent $$$, however, he quickly realized it was the better tool. LOL Now I doubt I could use that auger; I am reduced to a small trowl. Aging is not fun!

Due to sticker shock for some augers, I ended up buying a "cheaper" auger off a popular online store and wow it sure was CHEAPER. Tried using it to plant my bulbs...DUD! So, for everyone considering buying an auger, treat yourself to solid steel one, I know they are quite pricey but it is a good investment for all those holes in the future!

Laura, I absolutely love my Power Planter augers. I have two sizes, a 3" in the 12" length, and a 4" in the 24" length. These augers are heavy-duty and extremely well made. You are the one who introduced me to Power Planter augers in the first place, and I'm so glad that you did. Planting bulbs has never been easier. I'm short, 5' 1" and I'm trying to decide if I'm strong enough to handle a bigger drill, maybe the concrete mixing one. The Dewalt Hammer Drill is the one I'm currently using with the smaller augers, and it works for me. Have a great weekend! ~Margie

Thanks so much for that info! I’m only 4’ 9” and was thinking which drill would work for me for the most popular smaller to medium sizes! For the bigger ones, it’s my hubby helping out or else I’ll look quite funny trying to hop on a the shovel like it was a pogo stick which takes me 2 to 3 times longer than my hubby! 😆

My husband happened to be sitting in the room while I was watching this video and said I should recommend to you Rigid drills/batteries as they have a lifetime warranty. He uses them for work all day long (construction field) and burns out motors or the batteries stop charging etc and they are great about either fixing them or (if it can't be fixed) replacing them. I can't tell you how many new tools he's gotten! Just passing the info on!

Important to note, I discovered that some augers have a hex end shape and fit a hex drill opening. Other drills like mine are chuck drills and the hex end augers do not stay attached. For my drills I need augers that are round and not hex on the part that fits into the drill. Thought I would mention this since I struggled with my hex auger not staying attached to my drill without understanding the issue. I love your videos; you break down confusing topics making them understandable and I greatly appreciate how you visually demonstrate your points. Thank you!

I’m SO excited! It’s like you read my mind! I bought over 800 bulbs for fall planting and immediately regretted it, until I saw a bulb planting video using a drill and auger. I looked into the drill/auger setup online and was somewhat confused….so I stalled on the idea. Until this morning when I saw your video! Thank you SO much for the great explanation regarding different drills and augers. I immediately went to a link you posted and ordered a great package deal that exactly fits my needs. So, I think while I wait for it to arrive, I’ll cruise through a few bulb catalogs.😉 💪🏻 Thank you, thank you!

Hi Laura and Aaron! This was a well put together video on augers and drills. I have no need for them, but seeing so many comments asking what you use and recommend, I'm sure there are many of your viewers that find this very helpful. The editing and music was great! Kudos to Ken and Aaron! Thank you so much for sharing!

Definitely a video to reference when I am in the market when I begin "auging" holes. It may be a pricey investment, but it would save so much time, and some aches and pains. This is such a helpful video. Thank you Laura, Aaron!

This was one of the most helpful videos as I was thinking I needed a drill and auger for planting. I am a 70 yr old woman, but strong, and needed to buy just one drill and auger for bulbs and typical perineal size pots. Thank you....you read my mind!

Watching you plant last year, I was inspired to plant bulbs for the first time ever. I bought over 300 bulbs. I bought an auger, too --- 'cause that's what Laura does! My wonderful husband helped me plant all those bulbs, He was so happy that you recommend using augers. :-) Looking for my Colorblends order to arrive any day!

Lynn Carson After a foot injury at the beginning of the summer, I discovered your channel and began binge watching Your episodes. Eventually I was able to get back in my garden and put to use many of your ideas. I ordered a color blends catalog and got a little carried away. When I met the $60 minimum order, I suddenly realized I had ordered over 100 bulbs - yikes. This video on augers came in the nike of time - i ordered an auger to help with the planting. I learn something each day about my garden and I’m looking forward to next spring already. Thank you!

It is so helpful to have all this auger and drill information in just one video, so we don't have to go searching through all the videos trying to find auger ones....I've been down that wormhole, only to emerge hours later! Also, great editing/effects in this video!
