Both planes are excellent in their respective roles. There is no way to make a comparison of which is the best, considering that their capabilities are suitable for different types of missions. One is a competitor to the C-17 Globemaster, the other is a competitor to the C-130. But, the video was well covered in what type of mission they would do well in.

Nice and well presented video, though this specific comparison is a little surprising. The Dutch air force pitched this Embraer C-390 against the latest C-130 Hercules version, ending up choosing the Brazilian plane to replace their current Hercules fleet.

Não muito diferentes. 2 KC-390 fazem mais do que 1 A400 a um custo menor, e mais rapido. Para você ter uma idéia, para fazer uma missão com o A400 é preciso informar o uso de combustível previsto manualmente em vários sistemas diferentes apenas para conseguir decolar. Estimam que para fazer uma única missão, pode-se levar até 50 horas-homem apenas para deixar o avião pronto para voo. Isso impacta diretamente no índice de disponibilidade da aeronave. O C-17 possui disponibilidade média de 80%, o KC-390 possui os mesmos 80% de disponibilidade, já o A400M possuem pifios 65%, mesmo valor dos C-130J também 65%. Ou seja, com menos quantidade de KC-390 você consegue fazer mais missões que os A400M ou os C-130J, a um custo menor. Dos 21 A400M da RAAF apenas 13 estão em condições de voo. Dos 14 C-130J, 9 estão em condições. Já dos 8 C-17 sempre a ao menos 6 a 7 prontos para uso.

Airbus A400M has better payload capacity. Mobility is kind of even, since KC-390 has better speed and A400M has better range. KC-390 has better global costs (maintenance, availability and operating cost), embraer engine (IAE V2500) is better than turboprop engine. Aquisition price is also better in KC-390

@@sonotornato9003 IAE V2500 engine has higher consuption than turboprop engine. However, A400 uses four engines, against embraer, that uses only two. Besides that, turboprop engine was a poor choice (political choice, not technical one). A400 engineers wanted to use Pratt & Whitney (Canadian) engine, which would be best in technical matters. Europrop TP400 has a lot of flaws. Many were corrected, but it still does not have the maintenance and availability that IAE V2500 has. Maintenance is harder, more frequently and expensiver than IAE V2500.

Should be taken in consideration Antonov-70. A400 is downgraded version of AN-70. Airbus was in negotiation with Antonov Company about join production of AN-70, but left this idea and created A400. But inspired it was later development AN-70 overperforms A400.

The only comparison that makes sense is against the C-130, namely the J. Those who want to replace the C-130 and cannot afford the C-17 or A400 may well buy the KC-390 and enjoy her better overall performance. But if there are no budget restrictions any Nation will buy the more capable American or French aircraft. In the Portuguese Air Force, for example, the Hercules operated since 1977, a replacement was overdue and we would never afford buying the larger models. Besides, Embraer was understandably very eager to create a bridgehead in Europe for the sale of the KC-390. Anyway, it is indeed a fine aircraft. Certainly the best _for those who cannot afford the larger models._

So the 4-engine 400M hourly cost is $25,000 and the 2-engine c 390 is $24,000? It may have its nitch, but with the hourly cost being basically the same, why would you buy the miniature version of a transport aircraft... Is the hourly cost to operate the c390 incorrect, at least I hope so for Embraer's sake? The Japanese Kawasaki's cost per hour puts it in contention also with just two engines but much greater capacity and range than the c390.

And you don't ask about its prices ... A400M Atlas price is starting about 200M USD KC390 Millenium price starts about 80M USD so you get about 5000h flying for free. Its quite a lot for military aircraft. Other question are service costs. KC390 uses regular turbofan engines like Airbus A321neo - you have to service 2 engines and there are well known for servicemen. A500M Atlas uses very rare proprietary engines (I have no information about other users of this engine) - you have to service 4 engines and only Airbus can/may service them in factory.
