Whenever (most) whisky enthusiasts talk about 'cask strength', they generally mean 'high proof', so I always counter with the Glencraig, which was bottled barely before dropping below legal whisky strength! As you noted: it was distilled at Glenburgie using a Lomond still (the sort of composite still, with a pot body and column neck, like Ugly Betty, which was originally at Inverleven, but now makes Botanist gin at Bruichladdich - I believe the Glenburgie one is now at Scapa, but with the neck plates removed) and was named after Willie Craig, the Production Manager! Glad you liked it!

@andrewbutler7681 such incredible history. I was really stumped though. Loved sipping while editing wondering about the still, and what happened to it. Thanks for sharing that part and of course the dram!!

A really nice review. Jon, kudos to you. Your experience with tasting many drams has served you well in facing, either never tasted or no nothing about, quite well. I am beginning to enjoy blinds as I continue my journey. Sláinte!

Your whiskey location has changed quite alot from the beginning. That Compass box is a gem.

@whiskeymusic9684 I was excited to upgrade it a bit this summer.With the kids not living at home, I do not feel as bad taking up a bit more room. Cheers!

That older one at cask strength is really interesting. John Teeling would often walk up to tours at his distillery in Dublin and let people smell a sample of really full flavoured 40 year old cask strength whiskey... That couldn't be called whiskey any more because it had dropped below 40%!!

Interesting and older whisky certainly can take on more proof notes even when at 40abv. It may be the oak and sherry influence. Nice review have been thinking of getting a compass box bottle off seelbach. Enjoy!!🥃🥃🥃

I think that is happening here. The strength of the older dram really surprised me.
