I live in rural South East MO and thought I would never get to experience Compass Box. One day I walked into my favorite firearms dealer. Let's call it a beer, bait, and ammo store ( they sell outdoor, hunting, fishing, gear, tobacco, and loads of whiskey. There on the shelf were 2 bottles of Compass Box. 1 Peat Monster and 1 The Spaniard, and needless to say, they did not stay there. I have greatly enjoyed my experience with both bottles since that fateful day.

I was at a whiskey tasting in San Francisco a few months back, and closer to the end of the evening I came upon the Compass Box booth. How did I miss it earlier, I have no clue. I tried Delos, Ultramarine and Celestial, and given how I was a good number of pours deep, they didn't register so much. I felt so bad because I bet those three bottles are extremely nuanced, if you don't taste them after about 10 other distilleries. Then they poured me Art & Decadence, and that thing cut through everything I've tried up to that point. Not in a harsh and abrasive way, it was just that present, delicious and memorable. Just as memorable as that skewed label (I have to admit, the first time I looked at it I thought I had a few too many). One of these days I'm going to get me one of these bottles, and it will definitely be the kind of whiskey to have on a special night with the best of the friends.

Fun fact. Read their pie chart like a tree. The number of rings next to the whisky name in the ingredients list is the age of the whisky.

I found this one a few months ago (love it) and am also an unabashed Compass Box fan, first really expensive bottle I ever bought was their hedonism quindecimus.

Compass Box is the reason that one of my neighbors had gone from "What the hell is that? Dirty socks?" to proudly drinking Peat Moister as his favorite whiskey.

Because of this video, I opened my bottle of Art & Decadence. The label is not just amazingly beautiful and complex, there is actually a texture to it that is also fantastic. And the flavors are just amazing. Rich, deep, and so many layers. I agree with Daniel that it feels so strange knowing that there is grain in here as it feels so malty. The nose, the palate, the finish.... Just top notch. -- Oh, and my bottle is signed by John Glaser as I bought it when he was in town for a tasting back in December. :p

Their 'Flaming Heart' from 2019 and the 'Spice Tree Extravaganza' 10th anniversary release are probably two of the best whiskies I've ever had, blended malt or not. The core range is great and affordable but they only seem to be getting the recognition that they deserve in the last couple of years here in the UK. You guys over there were on board from the off. I haven't had much of the James Saxon releases save for the 'Orchard House' but I'm sure they are in safe hands, cheers Daniel!

Hi Daniel, I am a long time watcher of the channel, and I always love the content. I am a whisk(e)y enthusiast ( a bonafide one at that) and want to find some local enthusiasts that I can share whisk(e)y experiences with. What are some good ways to find these like-minded people?

The time of Great Gatsby was known as the roaring twenties for a reason. It was a time of decadence, as the world just came out of the First World War. An interesting thing is that the label is made in a style called Art Noveau, which was pretty big before the time.

I grabbed one of these a few months ago but it's kinda middle of the pack for me of the compass boxes I have. The sherry vs sauternes vs madeira felt kinda muddy, although definitely rich. I prefer my bottles of Myth and Legends 3 , Magic Cask and Menagerie a lot more.

So, after watching this wonderful review of this whisky, I thought what the hell and looked at ordering a bottle. Oh my goodness, you have expensive tastes. At 150 pounds, it is a little out of my price range. For me, this translates to $263.05CDN plus shipping and duties, so it ain't going to happen. 🥹 Yes, I know, good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good. 🙂 Mr. Whittington, thank you for another great video.
