I think this is a really fun idea, but I confess I’m a little worried about some of the implications. I think it’s kinda harmful to say that simply eating a good diet will cure you of diabetes or cancer. It’s great to look at theories and ideas, but I can’t say nothing when I think of my cousin who has diabetes, or my former teacher who died of cancer. Yes, discussing ways to make us better humans is a great start, but, I guess I just think we have to be careful how we go about that. Providing research and links to studies could help.
@oliviamobley38894 жыл бұрын
Susanne Desic I totally agree. I didn’t mention autism or ADHD in my comment because I’m. It super well versed with either of those beyond a very basic understanding and didn’t want to speak out of turn, but I certainly had a feeling that might be the case. And while there may be some issues with the pharmaceutical industry, it’s not necessarily the drugs themselves. For example, we know that prices for insulin are outrageous due to capitalistic greed, but it doesn’t mean that insulin doesn’t work! Especially during a pandemic, my heart went out to all the doctors, the nurses, and the pharmacist watching this who have been working tirelessly. Some of the rhetoric, intentional or not, vilified the medical community. I understand that this podcast isn’t trying to be hard hitting journalism, but so many people are watching, and that platform demands that they ask some hard hitting questions I feel. If the goal is to make us better earthlings, we have to seek the truth, which sometimes means pushing for evidence. As a businessman, he had a level of ethos to talk about business. I just wish he had made some distinctions between theories his company is exploring and hard facts that are currently within our reach.

@@susannedesic3726 I mean on some level human behavior is responsible for viruses, considering a lot of zoonotic diseases sprang over from animal carrier to human because humans kept animals in close proximity and unhygienic conditions (i.e. swine flu coming from pig factory farming). However considering viruses aren't even living organisms, this theory of viruses being a response of mother nature is just silly. This guy is sharing a lot of pseudo-science and sadly the 3 hosts don't have the necessary scientific background to critically reflect what is pseudo-science and what isn't. For example this theory of viruses traveling inside you via vegetables and then causing intolerance is just bullshit. What can happen is that your immune system may overreact to certain food (aka allergies) but there's no virus sitting in your gut waiting on vegetables. This Naveen guy built up so many different business schemes, I'm pretty sure he's just another snake oil seller.

I agree at some level with the argument that it's kind of tricky to make claims on a public platform without enough scientific evidence to back it up, but I do appreciate to have another source of information that will make me research and confront my own habits (be it food, meditation, medicine, etc). I think with this podcast they are giving us alternatives to make our own conscious choices without relying 100% on what we have inherited from an industry which is definitely flawed, even if it has some positive things.

@@byronknight4507 Maternal mortality in black American women is interesting. People have blamed it on "black people just being more unhealthy" without actually delving into what that means, or (if it's true...and that's a big "if") what the causes of the disparity are. Honestly, I think the Serena Williams situation did a lot to show that a much bigger factor than individual health is bias among medical practitioners. There's a long history of them just....not listening to black people (or women) when those patients say "look, something is wrong here. you need to check this out." That would be a good topic to cover all on its own, too....this idea that if you're already perceived as being from a "difficult" health-care group (which usually corresponds with being marginalized in some way), those perceptions can be barriers to your efforts to pursue better health or to advocate for your health. I'm thinking here too not just about maternal mortality, but "rare" autoimmune and genetic issues, which are probably less rare and more under-diagnosed. I mean....if women, non-white people, the young, the old, people who are overweight, people who aren't neurotypical, etc. all get dismissed when they complain of symptoms.....then of course the condition is going to appear "rare, " and that's its own problem.....but also.....how does that affect actual individuals from those groups and the quality of care they have access to?

As a poor, disabled, chronically ill, autistic person with ADHD and multiple mental health issues, I couldn't finish this video. Listening to a billionaire talk about things he isn't actually an expert in made me feel like my brain was trying to claw its way out of my skull. His outlook reeks of "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" and "your disability is your own fault" which are extremely harmful to disabled people. If you want to make the world better, don't talk to billionaires. People who hoard money are horrible. Doubly so if they're trying to say they're hoarding it to "help the world." Taking advantage of people's desire to feel better is low and a huge part of why I moved away from alternative medicine. Likewise, positive thinking on its own is laziness and demonizes the very real need to feel and address your emotions no matter what they are. I have grown so much as a human being since I realized that I don't have to put on a front of positivity when I'm not feeling it. In fact, overall, acknowleding and feeling my feelings has freed me up to be a more positive person than toxic positivity culture ever did.

This drew me in so much more than I expected. There were so many mind blowing moments; particularly when discussing how modern medicine cant be relied upon when it comes to our relationships with the foods we eat and our gut health. I definitely will be looking into Viome because I'm sure most of us are plagued with one issue or another that could be helped with gaining better insight into our own bodies. It may be worth exploring income disparities when it comes to the quality of food that is available to underserved communities. Many people in poorer urban areas don't have access to foods that are responsibly sourced or free from pesticides or, if they do have access, they can't afford them. So that does remain a socioeconomic issue. But on a side note; I definitely recommend a recipe section on your website!

These kind of tests aren't really necessary for healthy eating. You know which plants to avoid if you develop allergies or diarrhea systematically, other than that there's no reason to avoid a specific plant (that has been classified as edible). These tests are usually meant to exploit naive people by making obscure health claims like Goop does.

I think an episode(s) along the lines of a day or a week in the life of you guys would be great. Basically showing what kinds of things you're doing in daily life to be better earthlings.. whether it be better foods, composting, taking us shopping with you, etc. Many people shy away from creating a better life because there's this mass idea that if you do something, you need to do it fully and perfectly from the very start - which of course is not the case. Every small step is a great step. I think showcasing that would help not only promote this better way of life, but also ease that looming climate anxiety so many people are struggling with. Much of that anxiety probably comes from that overbearing idea of "all or nothing" - which ultimately defeats them from wanting to make a change. This episode was great, keep up the great work!

This is awesome I Love where this is going and can't wait for what the future might hold but it better hold something good because it is 10 at night for me and I need more... Can't run out of earth locker!

Love what you guys are talking about. Interesting listen. Please recommend some books or anything on starting meditation and training yourself to utilize the lesser relied-on parts of the brain? Just consider me Jon Snow on this cause I KNOW NOTHING!

Very good episode, I really enjoyed it found it very interesting and something to think about and consider. So here is a random Earth Locker tie in product, the shirts are a good idea but how about Earth Locker seed packets?

i can’t tell if they (with the exception of Tom) are just being polite, or if they actually believe what this guy is saying, because he seems sketchy to me.

My thoughts exactly. They did say they were mostly just being open-minded for these podcasts, and that they don't necessarily condone the things they're discussing. I'm hoping they're taking it with a pinch of salt - I mean Byron and Robert's expressions throughout seem quite tongue-in-cheek while they're listening, and the fact Tom stayed quiet hopefully indicates they don't actually believe what that guy was saying 😬

Maggie Slater I’m just going to pretend that Robert was being tongue in cheek when he compared Naveen’s endeavors to The Foundation Trilogy in which the attempt at galactic colonization was “starting to corrode and fall down” from within.
