Personally, I want you to get into competition, because you are analytic, thorough, and willing to make videos. I don't have the opportunity to do competitions but want to know what are the winning equipment and techniques, to spiff up my non-comp game. Thanks so far, Bob.

I really did have fun fishing it. I'm not entirely ruling out doing another one.

I feel like you made some really interesting (and clutch) changes when things weren't moving. Going in blind without any time to prepare, I think you killed it. You should be proud of that performance!

I am. I know I say I go in trying to set realistic expectations, but sometimes that "what if I could pull this off" starts creeping in.

What an extremely great privilege and experience Bob! As I have already shared with you, jealous I am! What a great opportunity to test your skills on still water!

Way to go Bob! Super cool video - thanks for virtually taking us on the adventure. I really appreciated the over-dub, talking through your thought process on what was and was not working. Learned a ton that I can personally apply (as I always do from your videos). Tight lines!

Thanks! It was a cool experience! I feel like I learned a lot from being able to go through it after the fact and objectively critique my decision making.

Super interesting video. I've never seen a competition before so this was all new to me. Thanks for walking us through it and explaining your approaches in the various scenarios. Really interesting to see.

Thanks for watching! I was glad Glade and Lance ended up letting me film. IMO there isn't enough content (and thus exposure) about competitive fly fishing. I think competitive fishing is a compelling watch, no matter the species or format. Hopefully someday the fly fishing comps will take some inspiration from tournament bass fishing in this regard.

I really enjoyed your preparation on such short notice on rod selection and line types. Trying to anticipate conditions and bring the right stuff can be challenging. I also enjoyed your analysis and rationale you shared. Your videos really help me with the mental aspect of fly fishing which I seem to be more and more interested in lately other than just being on the river, lake, stream, etc.

Thanks! I always look at fishing as a super fun, always changing problem solving exercise and adding the constraints of competition rules only adds complexity to the situation. Thats what makes it so fun!

You killed it bob! I’m sure going back and watching these videos improves your remembrance of the fishing and makes you a better angler! Cheers!

What an awesome experience for you. I came across your channel while looking for videos in the Provo River as I played baseball at BYU in the late ‘80’s. Some of my team mates and I spent a lot of time in the canyon, on top around Heber as well as some of the surrounding areas. Had a lot of fun and I’m jealous of the opportunities you have access to as where I’m at in AZ, it’s a fairly long trip to get to trout. Well done and keep up the good content.

Thanks! Hopefully you can get out this way and re-experience the Provo. I looked into a bit of the AZ trout fishing at one point because we almost moved to Phoenix a couple years ago.

I would love to get up there, but I’ve really become a stillwater guy. Would love to fish Strawberry again. Fished it not too long after they treated it. As much as AZ is home, you would be frustrated with the lack of trout water nearby especially moving water. The salt river below Saguaro Lake could be good if they took water from the bottom, but they make way too much money on tubing and unfortunately they hold water back during the winter

Loved watching the video and learning your thought process at each station. Just curious - were you able to determine if Glade was using a technique(s) or flies significantly different from your set ups?
@TroutFlies2 жыл бұрын
He mentioned he caught most of his fish using a Thin Mint on a midge tip. I think he was fishing a bit faster and inducing takes, whereas my eats were purely food eats.
