Do check out this video on dermatology pathway kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zpq8fY2anbRmh7M Pathway to become a dermatologist in UK for IMGs- After MBBS, internship and PLAB, apply for FY2 jobs in UK. After FY2 (1 year), apply for internal medicine training (IMT) (2 years). During IMT, take MRCP. After IMT and MRCP, apply for higher specialty training in dermatology (5 years). After that, you will be a dermatology consultant and awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). DO NOTE- The pathway to specialise in UK is different compared to other countries. UK doctors don't normally do PG degree/masters/MD to specialise and become a consultant. We do the specialty training programme to specialise. Specialty training is not conducted by a university. It is not a MD/degree/masters. Specialty training programme is free. You work for the hospital while you train. You will also receive a monthly salary.

What about ophthalmology ? For an IMG which is better : FRCO or Plabs? If I do FRCO , specialty training takes how many more years in comparison to run through ophthalmology speciality training ? And what is its competition ratio too? Similarly, cardiology IMT then ST versus MRCP then ST ?

Hi, there are two levels of applications for ophthalmology ST1 and ST3. It is easier to apply to ST1, you can apply after FY2. For ST3, you need to complete part 1 FRCOpth and at least 24 months of opthalmology experience. You can check the guidance here 'look under ophthalmology'. specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/Recruitment/Person-specifications You can find the competition ratios for all specialties here specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/Portals/1/Competition%20Ratios%202019_1.pdf Specialty training is from ST1-ST7. Hi, IMT (internal medicine training)- is a medical training post for 3 years. After that you need to apply for higher specialty training (4 years) to achieve CCT. IMGs who are senior doctors and who are already specialist in another country can enter the specialist register via the CESR route. You can find more information on that here www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/join-the-register/registration-applications/specialty-specific-guidance-for-cesr-and-cegpr The route will depend on your clinical experience.
