Interesting. Why wouldn’t good defense work if there were strikes? For someone to strike they would need to create some distance. When there is some separation couldn’t Raul stand up or move to a safer position? If someone stood up to soccer kick him, couldn’t he stand up as well (before he gets kicked)? I doubt someone would stay in turtle to defend soccer kicks. Seems to me like we get in the most trouble when we allow under hooks, 2 on ones, seatbelts, etc (whether there are strikes or not). I doubt that in a fight someone is simply going to throw Raul to the ground and land kicks, punches, knees, and elbows while he stays in the turtle position. He could have stood up in these matches whenever he wanted to.

I think the shear volume of angry, negative commentary on what is so obviously a live test of these principles should tell you that you are truly innovating Priit. When people start to realize how these defensive postures can be incorporated into a highly aggressive offensive game, this stuff is going to be taught everywhere. Everyone talked the same trash about the DDS and their willingness to give up position in search of leg entanglements. No one is talking trash now. This is proof of concept; not a strategy unto itself (although it certainly worked lol). I find it hilarious that so many KZbin grappling "experts" can't see this. Creating a systemic approach to defense is brilliant. When you have no fear of being caught in a "bad" position, you are free to take chances in search of submission, thereby allowing for ultra aggressive offense. Just my take, but that's where I envision this leading. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about your vision Priit, hahaha.

I am a black belt, but realize there are (and maybe always be) areas to explore in which I am a novice. This system is one such area (although I often use running man when people have my back, and it almost always works). Here is my big question - when doing Priit’s turtle, with the forehead serving as a post, what happens if the top player puts a great amount of force (a knee, a shin, a falling shin, a forearm with some falling body weight behind it ) directly across the back of the turtle player’s neck? And if that is survived (I would think that would be a big “if”) what happens when top player keeps doing that over and over, with more force each time? It appears as though it could lead to a massive neck injury, and that perhaps the Priit turtle position is relying on people being “too nice” to do that ? Any answers are appreciated
@DECEPTIONINDICATED15 күн бұрын
Keep the chin tucked in while the forehead is on the ground. If you keep it loose then that is when injuries may happen. The majority of the time they are trying gi or no gi chokes and whatever else they attempt from there. I have played his system for 3 year now and the black belts that I roll with either give me time to escape or they try new things that lose their position. I am a purple belt and his system does work for me. The hand fighting is key.

He obviously had a goal of proving a strong defense could keep you safe until he saw the right moment. His leg lock game showed that he has other skills, but that he was trying to prove something. Yes exposing yourself like this when strikes are allowed would be foolish, but this isn't a match with strikes. This is a BJJ sport competition, not the street. If you think he'd use the exact same tactic in a mma match, street, etc your fooling yourself. If ever in a street fight, where someone takes your back and tries to choke you out... It sure is nice to have these defensive tactics as a reflex. For those of you saying something along the lines of "this or that painful move would open his turtle", I'd argue those tactics put you in a position where he could exploit an opening. Obviously nothing is perfect. Learning defense can't hurt your game. I think defense is what has made Floyd Mayweather the greatest boxer of all time. Defense has never really been emphasized in BJJ, so people are frustrated when confronted with it. Like all things in BJJ, somethings connect with you, others don't. If you take away the sport element, it basically becomes wrestling.
@ikrampicaso9203 жыл бұрын
@@FH-pn1tm right, i’m quite curious how this works in MMA. The foundation of this system is that you don’t give easy underhooks, don’t put too much stress on getting choked and the positions that priit introduces is somewhat eternal. But how does this work if someone is trying to literally smash your face to pieces like khabib
@cherryblossom77083 жыл бұрын
@@ikrampicaso920 short answer: it doesn't work. adding in strikes changes the game completely. there's no point trying to consider how this would work in mma

Great display of turtle. I'm using this in sparring since the first Globetrotters video and it works very well. I don't get why people hate on his style. What's the difference between this and pulling closed guard, fighting grips and work towards submission!? Not practical for a street fight? Of course! It's a jiujitsu match. But don't be naive - your top pressure side control could be useless too if the other guy stabs your liver from bottom.
@KingLouieJones2 жыл бұрын
So in jiu-jitsu, if you turtle and then concede side control, no guard pass points are awarded?

I’d just stay in front with a chin strap and do nothing and win by advantage “passive BJJ”
@DefensiveBJJ3 жыл бұрын
Maybe next time when we are willing to test it again someone does that 🙂 But the point is I guess that it is easy to say those things and it is another thing how you act in a competition. Most people consider turtle bottom easy to break and they feel good when someone turtles because they give away a dominant position so to speak and most people will start to attack it ...and of course we will see some other strategies emerge also like people walking away and so on ...it is what it is and this is the price of testing it all out

If system works is one thing, but if you teach people that default reaction in fight is to go to turtle then the martial arts main purpose of self defense is lost. This martial art is turning into a fun game for many people. Slap jitsu looks like a must for competitions now as a correction tool
