KZbin is about as close to a time machine as we're going to get but yeah👍 I grew up with the 1970s era of drag racing so I know what you're saying. I actually feel sorry for these "Today" drag racing fans but as they say "You can't miss what you never had"!

I got to meet Tom while working at his house, he was super nice. It was great talking old time drag racing with him. I was just back working at his house. I can say I cried when his wife told me he had passed away.

RIP Mr.Tom " Showtime" Hoover ..Prayers to the Hoover Family. My Son and I were fortunate enuff to have Owned 1 of Toms funny cars "less driveline". Helped mold my Son today into a gearhead and gentleman..God Bless . See ya' in HotRod heaven..

Tom was one of my all time favorites. Back in the late 70s he used to race at Fremont from time to time. One time I struck up a nice conversation with him. It led to Tom allowing me to help his crew on the Showtime funny car. After that, every time he would show up to Fremont I got to be a part of his crew for the day. Such a nice guy, as was his dad George. RIP Tom. You will be missed!

And to think, Pro-Stocks today are running 6.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile. That said, Pro-Stocks share a lot of similarities but no nitro methane. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane, I lived those times on the track!

I remember Tom Hoove’s Showtime funny car was my favorite. Of course I was 12 and I begged and begged my father to take me to the Union Grove Dragaway to see him. I got a pit pass and was lucky enough to meet him. But sadly that happy memory was clouded by a sad one. Later in that season dad and I were getting ready for another trip to Great Lakes Dragaway and dad had to go in to work. I was upset. But I was relieved when I watched the news that day. It seems there was an accident that day at the strip. One of the Top Fuel cars scattershields failed and the shards of hot metal killed one and injured many more.
