Thank you so much for this video. I have been looking for this. My 10yr old boxer stomach has become so sensitive I bought everything and he loved it. and it was very easy for me to prep and package a week at a time.... in the video you mentioned to switch things up Are you referring to the protein only, ingredients overall? I would love to know what you meant by that.. Thank you
@masterbowie201611 ай бұрын
Thank you for your feedback 😊 I'm glad to hear that your dog loved it! I would rotate to different protein (to the ones your dog is not sensitive/allergic to) and also the veggies. Aim to pair below the ground/root vegetables with above the ground/leafy vegetables 🐶💚

Hii, may I know a good ratio for making homemade cooked food? Can the barf raw diet ratio also be used for cooked food? Of course, it doesn't include raw meaty bones which are replaced with egg shell powder
@masterbowie20169 ай бұрын
BARF ratio can be used as a starting guide, just be mindful that there are some nutrients that can be depleted when cooked compared to raw 🙂 like any general guidelines, you may need to adjust elements as you go to suit your dog's specific requirements 🙂❤

@@masterbowie2016 oh okay I get it, thank you for your kind reply 🥰🫶another question, previously I always bought raw food from ecommerce for my dog, but recently I was interested in learning to feed raw meat to my dog which I bought from a butcher at the market, does the meat I buy need to be cleaned first with warm water before freezing? And how many days does it take to freeze meat to kill the bacteria?

@@christinanita never wash meat as it can increase risk of cross-contamination in the kitchen. Have a look at the raw food safety and handling info on FDA (USA) or CSIRO (Australia). They have extensive guidelines on how to prepare and store raw meat properly.

Hi! I know this is an older video, but can you tell me about anti-nutrients? Thanks!
@masterbowie20167 ай бұрын
Sure. Antinutrients are natural or synthetic compounds found in foods that can interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients. For examples, phytates (found in grains and legumes) can hinder iron/zinc/calcium absorption, oxalates (found in spinach and beet greens) bind to calcium and can contribute to kidney stones, glucosinolates (found in cruciferous vegetables) can interfere with iodine absorption. Normally by cooking, soaking or fermenting, you can deactivate or reduce the levels of antinutrients. Hope this helps answers your question.

Question about the wheatgrass powder, psyllium husk, and dulse.. do you add this amount to the food for every serving? I feed twice a day... Or are these supplements an entire day's worth? Also, any particular brands you recommend of these products? Thank you
@masterbowie201611 ай бұрын
Hello, the amount of wheatgrass powder, psyllium husk and dulse are formulated for the specific amount of ingredients in the recipe, which make about 1kg of dog meal. I don't know how much your dog weighs so you'll need to do the calculation yourself. I use NOW brand for the wheatgrass powder, you can use any brand of psyllium husk. For the dulse, I use an Atlantic sourced dulse from Power Super Foods. Have a look at iherb or any organic, reliable brands from where you're from. Hope these answer your questions 😊🩷
@SilencedByYoutube11 ай бұрын
@@masterbowie2016 Ok, I think I understand but just to clarify. Those amounts are specific to 1kg of food. So if I was making about 50 kilos of food at once to store in the freezer I would just multiply those amounts by 50.. then just proceed to feed my dog twice a day of whatever amount is appropriate to his weight (approximately 3% of body weight per day) split in half to cover 2 meals a day.

@@masterbowie2016I’m just starting to cook food for my dogs. How do I determine how much food each of them gets? One is 8 pounds and the other is 10 pounds. I had been ordering The Farmers brand dog food but don’t think it provided all the nutrients my dogs needed because neither of them had been poop eaters but after being on the Farmers Dog they both started actively seeking out poop to eat. I took them off that and did canned food for about a month but I can’t in good conscience give that garbage to my dogs. I figure even if I don’t get all the nutrients down right away, anything I make for them will be better than canned! I’m going to order a micro scale and anything else I need and get cooking! Thanks for your video!
@masterbowie20162 ай бұрын
@@cindyhullings920 you can calculate how much food your dogs need from the kcal your dogs require and how much the food provides, or as a general guideline for fresh food feeding (adult, healthy dogs) is to feed 2-3% of your dog's body weight. For example 8 pounds dog will need approx. 3.2 ounce (90g) of food daily. This is guideline only meaning it depends on your dog's genetic, activity level etc so you have to monitor your dog's body condition and adjust if he/she needs more or less food. I've got an ebook and plenty of recipe packs on masterbowie.com website you can try if you're interested in making your own dog food. How are your dogs after you stop the Farmers dog food? Still eating poop?

How can I adjust this recipe to fit my 10 pound chihuahua?
@masterbowie20163 ай бұрын
The recipe makes about 1 kg of food so mix everything well and portion according to your dog's daily food requirement. Freeze food that you're not going to feed within 2-3 days. A general fresh food feeding guideline for adult dogs is to feed 2-3% of your dog's weight. So for a 10 pound (4.5kg), it's about 112g daily. Monitor and adjust portion (feed more or less) as needed. Alternatively you can just halve each ingredients if you don't want to make a lot of food. Hope that helps 😊💜

Will too much pumpkin cause diarrhea?
@masterbowie201611 ай бұрын
Pumpkin and turkey/chicken combination is often used as a bland diet for dogs recovering from diarrhoea. Pumpkin is rich in soluble fibre which can help decrease diarrhoea and help your dog feel fuller for longer. In saying that, each dog is different. Some dogs do ok with high fibre diet, some do better with less fibre in the diet. If your dog tends to be the latter, then start with small amount first, monitor and build up.

There are ways to save $$ like buying in bulk, buying ingredients on specials, and plenty more. You can also rotate with commercial premades or use premix which often can reduce the cost a lot esp when it's hard/expensive to source certain ingredients. Many dog owners I know feed a hybrid diet meaning they add fresh foods to their dog's kibble diet. Budget can be one of the main concerns for many dog owners thinking of making their own food, but I think it's also relative and shouldn't stop them to feed their dogs fresh food. My advice is always work within your budget and see what you can feed your dog the best possible way to suit their needs 😊🩷
