Whether you're a first-timer, watched it as a kid and want to revisit, or a fan that's kept up; Power Rangers can be quite a difficult show to navigate. With almost 2,000 episodes under its belt, it's surprising that there's not comprehensive guide to point people in the right direction.
Well don't you worry your little helmeted head and spandex pajamas! I've broken it all down, provided some quick summaries, viewing guides, and all the need-to-know info. By the end, dipping your toes into one of the longest running superhero TV shows won't be as intimidating. You may even be an expert by the time your done! But hopefully not too much of an expert that you start making video essays on Power Rangers... A boy's gotta eat, you know? It's hard enough competing with the Disney Brain, so I hope I don't spawn more competition. Not that competition would necessarily be bad... we need more people doing this kinda stuff in the Power Rangers niche. But I do have to find the middle ground with maintaining my bottom line. You know how it is. Gotta sustain myself somehow. Speaking of, it's tax season! I gotta get started on that! Have you done your taxes? Whether or not I get a big return, I genuinely enjoy doing my taxes. Is that weird? Seriously, it's a lot of fun just plugging in numbers that I've been keeping track of in a spreadsheet all year. It's just so rewarding! I guess it's a little different when you file for self-employment work versus being an employee but do I love crunching the numbers! Maybe I should've been an accountant? While I wasn't terrible at math, I just plain did not like it. I found it boring. That is... until I started taking Econ classes in college. I mean, WHAT A REVELATION it was for me! I didn't care about numbers while doing stats and algebra. Geometry was cool I guess. But when money's involved? WHOA. Total game changer. I just love keeping track of things. Maybe that's why my budget spreadsheet is so well organized? Anywho, I've been investing for the last few years and have been slowly trying to increase my contributions. Doing the DRIP! I don't make a whole lot in dividends at the moment but I'm hoping to be a millionaire by the time I'm 50, or maybe even sooner! Who knows? That would be the dream... Although my dreams also include McDonalds bringing back their Mighty Hot Sauce. Which looks down at watch I can totally rant about here. Why bring back the Spicy McNuggets if you aren't gonna bring back the Mighty Hot Sauce??? Micky D's, did you get a concussion during that whole Grimace Shake ordeal? I mean, COME ON. The sauce was the best part of that combo. It hasn't been back since 2021. Such a disappointment. Taco Bell however, they won me over last year, bringing back their Volcano Tacos. Those haven't been on the menu since 2008. Can you believe that? A friend and I tried to make a competition to see who could eat the most based on how many orders the app said we had. Unfortunately for us, the app only tracked the first 10 or so orders so the challenge was a bust. Oh well. Still happy they came back. They weren't as spicy as I remembered. Granted, I was a kid when they were out so my spice tolerance wasn't as developed. Still, the flavor was good. Um... What was I talking about?

Hey all, a few minor odd corrections... I said that there were nearly 2,000 episodes, that was supposed to say 1,000! Sorry! I also want to clarify... Power Rangers is available on KZbin and on Pluto TV. Super Sentai is available on Tubi and TokuSHOUTsu. Finally, I wasn't aware that Beast Morphers was pulled from Netflix. Jungle Fury totally. But SPD isn't underrated, it's one of the most popular seasons of Power Rangers lol. It's been praised online since it aired in 2005. I even did a video about the backlash that happened when a former Channel Awesome member made a bad take about SPD (not just a bad opinion, but something dismissive of POC Power Rangers fans) and many came to defend the season.

Operation Overdrive when described sounds like it could be the best season ever. And just every single thing fell short.

So much potential! I think even poor execution of theme can still be saved by writing. Look at Time Force, there's barely any time travelling but it's written well enough that you can look past it. Meanwhile, Overdrive is trying to pass New Zealand for the Florida Everglades when all they needed to show was a guy doing meth lmao.

Outside of upping the quality like everyone says, my biggest want from this show is the return of Wildforce Characters. I understand Wildforce Red is somewhat challenging due to Ricardo’s reintroduction as other characters down the line, but seeing Merric, Cole, and Taylor back on screen would be hype as hell for me.

Yess, same here! Especially because a lot of the character storylines didn't feel as fully rounded off by the end of the season imo. I really want to know what Merrick is doing and how his dynamic is with Zen Aku, how Jindrax and Toxica are doing travelling around the world. Taylor's return to the military, and if anything ever came of her relationship with Eric and how they'll explain the similarities Cole has with Dekker. Imo the last two episodes of Wild Force felt really incomplete to me and I think the season would've been better off without them, though I did enjoy how they left it off almost in a "fairytale" way with Alyssa narrating the story of Animaria and the rangers. So it would be interesting to see what they would do if the Wild Force rangers were called back into action, especially because it was implied that the Orgs might one day return and the Animarium will come down again.

I would love to see vids like this for Sentai, Rider or Ultraman as well. Also, you could technically split the Zordon Era in half, with MMPR and Alien Rangers being the Mighty Morphin Era and then have the Zordon Era just be Zeo, Turbo and In Space. It should also be noted that the MMPR and Turbo movies have gone out of print...

Back when I was in 4th grade, I remember watching all the episodes of RPM on KZbin during when RPM was in it's air. It's not the first season that I watch, but it's actually the first season that I watch in order. Then when Samurai was on it's air, they got taken down.

As someone who grew up watching the Disney Era and Mighty Morphin (Disney used to air MM after the newer seasons) This is a very well thought of and loved video for beginners. To those after watching the series wanting more, I highly recommend you pick up Shattered Grid. It's so good. Boom Studios really made PR their own and expanded upon it. Fair warning tho it's not as kid friendly.

Aww thank you! I second the recommendation on Shattered Grid. Although I wouldn't say it's not kid friendly. If anything it goes over the same maturity beats Lost Galaxy did. Plus other kids shows had plots like this. I just think PR devolved it's target demographic from 10-12 year olds to toddlers learning shapes in it's later years haha.

I’m not sure if you would be interested in doing this, but might I suggest covering PR/SS fanfiction in a future video? Things get a tad interesting when it comes to what the fans do with Power Rangers, some even create their own incarnation of Power Rangers, something I myself have done.

Imo I think that mystic force and operation overdrive is required to watch in order as because in episode 7 where they get their weapon which defeats the villain with final blast… Andrew mention the dragon heart which use to belong to fireheart and he also knew about mystic force rangers plus where the dragon was from so id say that those are required to watch in order as well but it’s only my opinion 😅

I think you could had mention the character Tommy Oliver, and the Impact Jason David Frank has on the franchise. If you did I might had missed it while listening to it. But yeah he has a huge impact on the show, and lore. One of the major events of the comics is a what if scenario that kinda helped solidify the franchise as a whole.

It honestly kinda does. I mean, it's not like I spent the last three months editing, it's more like a week total. I work a full time job that can require plenty of overtime just by itself. Worked a 65 hour week last month, not fun. Then I have a side job that I do on top of that. Once those are all said and done, I use my free time for KZbin, so I guess you could say my plate's always full. I'm looking to hire an editor soon and that should hopefully cut down on the time between videos! Hope that answers it, I like to be transparent! 🙂

There's a decent amount of seasons that you could watch as a "jumping on" point, such as Dino Thunder that literally recaps the show up to that point a few eps in, but generally I'd say just... pick the robots/suits you think look cool and start with that season.

While i do like youre breakdown i do want to just say that Wild Force can not be watched on it's own due to the fact that it not only has a crossover with time fkrce but also the 2 part Forever Red crossover which featured a team up of every single red ranger at that time so it IS best to watch every season before Wild Force in order to understand the plots of those crossovers. Same goes for lost galaxy because of its crossover with the Space Rangers and the use of the Astro Megaship from In Space as their base of operations. And Operation Overdrive because of the Once a ranger crossover that Featured rangees from Mighty Morphin, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, and Mystic Force, and the fact it had the Son of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd from Mighty Morphin as the main villain. Samurai features a crossover with the RPM Red Ranger, And Ninja Steel also can not be watched on its own due to the Dimensions in Danger crossover which features rangers from Mighty Morphin, Turbo, In Space, Dino Thunder, Rpm, Samurai, and Dino Charge. Again i loved your break downs but you failed to account for the crossovers with rangers from other seasons. No hate i am simply just pointing this out

No, I brought it up. Exactly @13:19 in. For the most part, you really don't need to know much about who these characters are cause they rarely, if ever, make a huge difference to the overall story. Both Reinforcements from the Future and Forever Red have no impact on Wild Force's overall story if they were to be removed. The only thing I can see that would be missed plot/character development-wise is Taylor learning to ease up from Eric, but even then it could be inferred that she did that on her own. Appreciate the comment though!

It's called a lack of care. Super Megaforce's production was so messy and those working on the show just didn't bother with things like that. Weirdly enough they accounted for Zeo with this, which makes it worse cause you know they had the capacity to think about things like this. They were just extremely inconsistent.

I can only speculate but the thing with Marvel if I had to guess was that they had the choice with it. Marvel Entertainment (under Ike Perlmutter, gross) likely licensed out shows that Disney can put on for a limited time. At the time, they didn't own Marvel, yet they had Spider-Man shows air on the network. If the show didn't work, they just ride out the contract, which would've likely been 1-2 years. This is in contrast to Power Rangers, whom they were stuck with for 9 years (Wild Force-MMPR Reversioned). They actively tried to cancel it but the showrunners kept fighting for it. Ratings had nothing to do with it. It was a productions staff who fought to keep it alive, a toy company that can at least guarantee some income, a contract with them to keep it going (til RPM), and Haim Saban who initially sold them the property in the first place as a package deal with Fox Kids.

Nope, it's been confirmed to take place in between. The final scene of his conversation isn't him getting the idea to revive Zordon, it's his revelation that he's still out there despite his previous attempt failing. Also, it's confirmed that Minh was in the Megazord when Billy rescues the team in the last episode.

Likely not. I don't watch Ultraman or Kamen Rider (though I do casually follow Rider cause I like the suits/have friends who watch it). I do watch Sentai but sporadically, I haven't seen them all and lately I've dropped every show since Zenkaiger half way through. On top of that, Toei is ruthless with copyright. Granted, I'm using their footage as part of PR, but that's a bit easy to argue as I can put the claim towards using an American property's footage as opposed to a Japanese one. Either way, I have used Sentai footage before (and I have done that in this video), plus other creators have used footage. The possibility to making it happen and getting away with it is there, but for me, I prefer to minimize that as some form of insurance. So yeah, for that reason, I don't make Sentai videos either. I'll bring it up when it's relevant though.

The only reason the Disney seasons had anything good going for them was because of people on the show like Doug Sloan, Ann Austen, Jackie Marchand, etc. who put actual care into the show. Disney just owned it, that's all, and they never wanted to in the first place. They were just stuck with it.

Comparatively. A step up from Super Megaforce but that's like weighing stepping in mud versus stepping in poo. Both suck, one's worse. Also, the way Dino Supercharge ended was so bad, they had to retcon it in Ninja Steel so it didn't mess with the timeline.

@@mintbariI kind of hope the MMPR reversioning someday gets a physical DVD release. Not speaking on the merits of its quality per say, but because of how fickle digital can be. A physical copy would be nice to have for archival and resource purposes in the event it were to ever permanently disappear from legal digital upload/streaming services. I feel the same way about the Power Rangers HyperForce tabletop web series, although in its case I'd advocate for it to be on Blu-ray as to utilize the extra storage capacity due to the beefy and average 3 hour+ length episodes. Speaking of "official" Power Rangers web series, HyperForce isn't the only one. There are three others that were endorsed/involved Saban Brands and/or Hasbro. They are Mighty Morphin Meower Rangers (a two season web series parody of MMPR with cats), Day of Destiny (a non-canon MMPR continuation tabletop web series by Renegade Game Studios used to demonstrate/promote the Power Rangers Roleplaying Game) and Power Rangers Kids Force (a parody of Dino Fury with actual pre-teen kids).

Technically Dino Charge is okay... It's Dino Supercharge that's bad. I will say though, Dino Charge is good when you put it between the other Neo-Saban seasons. But put it against Post-Saban and Disney and it sticks out like a sore thumb.
