Rover is so hit or miss. I've been doing it for almost a year and at least 70% of the time, the owners are not upfront about exactly how problematic their pets are. And once they drive away, you're stuck. They lie about the dogs weight, size, potty training, crate training, behavioral traits, aggressiveness and health....in order to have them accepted. Some of them are fabulous pets and wonderful to work with, but most of them are a nightmare. And I have owned a farm for 35 years and work with animals of all kinds, night and day

This is why you should always charge a good amount to make it worth it. Watching dogs with anxiety is a lot of work. I charge $75/day. Even for cute dogs. People will pay it, also Im really good at what I do.

I thought I wanted multiple opinions on the app but after the first ten minutes I was drawn in by your pleasant personality and loads of accurate information. I have used the app to find people in my area to take care of my pets and I have been lucky to find great people with great results. I was considering offering my services on Rover and just wanted some feedback from other people who have done it. After watching the entire video, I don't need to watch any other videos. @@labelle9921 Rover has what they call the Rover Guarantee that is basically an insurance program! Here’s a link with more info: www.rover.com/rover-guarantee/ When I don’t go through Rover, there is no insurance protection for the pets but that’s something to make sure owners are aware of! All the extra fees rover charges are what helps cover their Rover Guarantee program. I never like to bring a client off the rover app if they have any issues that may make me worried about needing the insurance backing. And I always make sure to tell a client that although we are both saving money by getting off the app, there is no insurance without it! Especially since I mainly watch cats, I’m not as concerned (and the clients usually aren’t either) since I don’t need to take any animals outside of their home. @PaigeWestCo3 жыл бұрын
Great question! The difference is that the income from Rover is not basic income from a W-2. So really these deductions are business expenses which is different from personal itemized deductions! Basically anyone who files a 1099 will also file a schedule C that will show the profits and losses of the business first. The personal standard deduction will be taken on the taxable income after business losses. Hope that makes sense! And thanks for watching😊

I been trying to find this answer so maybe I can help. I have my 1st rover booking in few days. 5 nights and it’s showing charges for those nights but the pick up they have marked from noon to 10pm so it is not showing the extended care rate. When they come pick up will the app ask what time they come to close out the stay and will it determine the % of extended stay rate then ( the 50 or 100% off the hours) or will I need to go on and modify it? If it doesn’t do it for me should I make the modification before the visit and then issue the refund after if need be?
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm I’ve done an overnight once and I don’t think it ever asked me what time the stay ended. It just went with what was scheduled in the app. I would explain this to the client and request to pick the latest time and say you will modify it after the fact if they come early and will give them the refund. There is a chance they changed the app as it’s been a few months since my overnight but from my experience whatever the initial booking charge is will be how it stays unless you modify it yourself. Also note that the client has to approve modifications which is why I suggest charging them for the longer stay and refunding if they pick up early so you don’t have the issue of not getting paid for your time. Hope that helps❤️

Hi, I’m just starting out on Rover and I’ve gotten a few nibbles from clients, but one pulled out on the day I was supposed to meet them to ensure it was a good fit and the other’s go-to sitter became available and they pulled out. A friend of mine got me onto Rover because she does it, and it works perfect for me because I am a full time student and as a result I’m only available on weekends. Is this negatively effecting my ability to attract clients? :( and should I lower my rates? I have previous experience pet sitting so I decided to set my rates for house sitting at $65 but is that too much? Thank you so much for your help, this video helped a lot
@rulabo8834 Жыл бұрын
Hey, Judgy… many times people glance at the number of reviews/repeat clients you have and you may be losing prospective clients if your prices are too high compared to the number of reviews/repeats (even though you have experience elsewhere)… you may want to lower your prices til you get more reviews. I know it hurts to do that, but if your competition charges less and you don’t have enough reviews, you’re gonna get overlooked.

Thank you so much for this video! Lots of invaluable info here! I am thinking of starting with Rover or Wag too (or are there better apps?) Like you, I want to have a niche and specialize in caring for elderly or sick dogs who require medications. I hope that’s not too narrow of a specialty though? Also, I have no clue what to say in my opening tag line and bio. Better to keep it short and sweet, or do people appreciate detailed and in-depth? Thanks!
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
You’re so welcome! I don’t think that’s too narrow at all! The key is to make it clear you specialize in that without saying you “only” take jobs for dogs that need medication. Either way that would give a potential client a great feeling that you are qualified for potential health emergencies with their pets too! And I say keep the tag line short and sweet and go more in depth with your bio😊 good luck!!❤️
@veryberry39 Жыл бұрын
I realize this is 6 months too late, but just in case anyone else is coming through with the same question: imagine you're writing a headline for yourself, about your petcare abilities specifically. You've written an article about yourself (the bio), but now you need to make a short, attention-grabbing headline that will get clients to read the rest of it. Paige's was great, for all the reasons she stated. It let potential clients know right away that she was only interested in cats, and it was cute and somewhat out of the ordinary (at least from what I saw when I browsed through local Rover workers!). Instead of feeling like you need to come up with The Best Headline right away, bring up a Notepad file (or just a sheet of paper) and write out all your ideas. Doesn't matter if you realize it sounds stupid the minute you start writing--just write it out. At first, all your ideas will be warm-up ideas, so probably not the best. But eventually--especially when you get everything down and then step away to let them percolate in your mind--you'll start thinking of tweaks or other ideas and you'll find one that you think is really good. I haven't signed up for Rover yet (gig work sets my anxiety off so much), but I imagine you can also change your tagline and bio whenever you want. So if you put something down that later doesn't seem good enough, you can always change it! (Thank you for coming to my TED Talk, etc. LOL)

I’m assuming you mean you’re boarding them? Either way I totally understand the concern because I’m extremely paranoid about bringing fleas home to my kitty at home even from doing drop in visits at other cats houses. Asking the owners for vaccination papers could be something you consider requiring for boarding jobs where you are bringing them into your own home. I would also say keeping your own kitty up to date with their vaccines and preventative treatments for fleas etc is the best you can do.. maybe consider discussing the risks with your vet as well! That’s the best I got considering I personally don’t board cats in my own home :/ Good luck with the job!❤️

I picked up a pet and dropped it off a cliff. Just remember to make it consensual, with good communication, and you should avoid my mistake. I made some wrong assumptions.

There's always gonna be some risk involved with strangers. For what it's worth, anyone signing up to work with Rover has to do a background check, and it's also recommended that you do a meet-and-greet with prospective walkers/sitters! If you get weird vibes from them, just decline!

Do you do any sitting at your home or all at the pets home?
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
I only go to their homes but I’ve heard wonderful things from those who board as well! It definitely is more convenient for the sitter (no driving around) and means you can board multiple at once! If you have the home to accommodate that is😅

Hi girl! !! How are you??? I started at Rover complete a client at home for 3 days. the customer made the payment is reflected in payment. The 48 hours have already passed and I have my bank account connected and also my Stripe account. but still the money has not gone to my bank account 👎🏻 do I have to wait more days?

It’s usually a few business days so this past weekend was a three day weekend and may have made it take longer! I would contact rover if you don’t see it in the next few days!💜

I signed up but I'm charging 40 for pet sitting overnight stay. Should I also charge extra if I am taking the dogs on walks and feeding throughout the day ? I'm confused
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
I personally like to charge for mid day drop in walks if I do an overnight job if they need me to come in the middle of the day as well as morning and night but I think it depends on what you think is worth the price! I would suggest looking at the rover support pages or the Reddit to see what others do too! Good luck!💜

Can anyone explain to me in detail how to get more reviews. She mentions an email that is sent out but I do not see anywhere that I can send out an email.
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
When I created my account the app prompted me to send out emails for reviews from those who could speak to my abilities as a pet sitter. They may have removed that option since then.. I’m not 100%! I would suggest referring your services to friends and family. They will get $20 off their first visit and be able to give you a review after! If you keep your rates below $20 that will be free for them!

So you work from home. Is it hard to tend to your clients while you work all day? I work from home, but could consider doing cat services if I can squeeze it in.
@krk842 жыл бұрын
Do you feel that you've limited yourself too much by only sitting for cats? I've been wanting to do this for years and I honestly prefer dealing with cats, but do also like dogs. I'd be willing to do drop in visits and walks with dogs, but if I'm being honest, I'm more of a cat person! lol
@PaigeWestCo2 жыл бұрын
I have a two sided answer to this lol! I do think there’s a lot of opportunities with dog walking that are missed by only sitting for cats (mainly because people need dog walkers more often than a cat sitter since cat sitting is usually only needed if they are going out of town) BUT by specifically tailoring my profile to cat sitting, I know I’m attracting a high percentage of the cat sitting jobs since there are literally hundreds of dog sitters in my area (who are willing to watch cats but it’s not a specialty) but only a handful of specifically cat sitters in my area! If anything you could experiment with both and turn the settings on/off for your profile to allow sitting for cats and dogs! I’m definitely wayyyy more a cat person so it was just a no brainer to me only watch cats😅 hope that was a somewhat helpful answer & good luck with Rover!❤️

I hope someone can help me answer my question. I was thinking about doing rover in my spare time, but Im a little confused about the taxes. If I were to set aside 30 percent of what I make for taxes, about how much of that would go to the state. I live in Alabama. I think it would be 5 percent. Maybe someone who does rover could help me on this.
@summerpeterson27772 жыл бұрын
After Rover takes 20% and you have to put aside at least 20% to pay for taxes you get only about 40-50% of what you charge! :( I wish clients on Rover understood why I have to make my prices higher. Also she doesn't mention this but I read that you have to track your personal driving as well as your business driving to be able to prove what portion was for business to get the deduction. Talk about a hassle, even with an app. They don't want to make being self employed easy on you!
@path1024 Жыл бұрын
100 - (20 + 20) = 60. If you charge 20, you spend 12.
@veryberry39 Жыл бұрын
It's not too much of a hassle once you get into the habit, honestly. There's one app, Everlance, that will start tracking as soon as it senses the car is moving (though you only get like 28 free ones, and after that you need to pay a fee, so eh). There might be others that always do the auto-tracking for free, I'm not sure. But once you actually get into the habit of it, it just becomes second nature to tap the button. I even keep it on my main phone page, so it's always visible. Having said that you're right, being self-employed really is a pain, for many reasons...ESPECIALLY when you consider the fact that we're really NOT self-employed, we're working for a company that's just choosing to make us "contractors" so they can get out of paying any benefits. But that's a whole different rant. :P

I have a full time job and work from home, the point of signing up with Rover was so that my dog would have other dogs to play with and also a second source of income to help out. Some of us with a side “hustle” already pay taxes for our regular jobs, any way around it if it’s not much that we make on rover ? Asking for a friend lol

@@shelldaniel6412 I do freelancing for small businesses now! Took me awhile to build it up enough to do it “full time”. Rover was way more lucrative for me than Instacart BUT Instacart was great for days when I had no other work and still needed to make money! I would just head out and do as many batches as possible! Highly suggest focusing on costco or other similar stores if you shop for Instacart! It’s wayyyy more lucrative! I did the shopping & delivery since it was flexible and on my time :) good luck!
