Greatly appreciated, 1 recommendation can you show how to put the tiny spring on the top side in? I am talking about the one with the little U hook. In addition, there is a CERTAIN @37:45 side about that black plastic gear (which drives the level wind). On on side the straight edge inside the ring recessed a little but, I believe that side bite onto the brass bass underneath it. Anyway great job on editing and videoshooting.

hei, i just bought lexa 300 hd left hand version. thanks to your video i could pre use service it. the innards pretty much bone dry from the factory with a little gunked up grease. but then i notice after service there is a little play on the whole main gear shaft assembly. just wondering if it suppose to slide in and out a bit few millimeter from the main frame?
@TackleAdvisors7 жыл бұрын
Cool, Do you mean if holding the reel. If you grab the handle. The whole tihing moves in and out including the drag star? A little play is normal But a few milimeters?? That may be excessive. Where was it purchased from. And was it purchased new?

yeah.the whole things attached to the main shaft moved with it. well thanks dude. il be trying it out on water soon. hehehe

IF it doesn't move in and out on the retrieve it's fine. As all reels do it to some degree. Well every star drag I've ever owned does. Regardless of size and price. But if it pops in and out on the retrieve....That'd drive me nuts..and I'd return it.

You stated the original bearings were greased. All of them? Nothing I can find in the LEXA-HD300XSL-P specs to verify and I don't want to be oiling them if they are greased from the Daiwa. Are the Tranx bearings greased from the manufacturer as well? FANTASTIC tutorials!

Great video, thanks! But now I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I broke down my Lexa 300 HSL and when I reassembled it, the cast control knob underneath the star drag isn't working. No matter how tight I tighten it, the spool runs free when I put any weight on the line. I don't see anything that indicates a problem but it just doesn't cause the friction that prevents the line from flowing anymore. Any ideas for what to look for? Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed walk through. I just serviced my lexa 300 HD. It fixed up the thumb bar stickiness that I previously had but my spool still very sticky and no where near as smooth as day one. Would that be possible I over grease the reel? Should I clean out the grease and just it back together? Or it’s because I’m just using the penn grease not the daiwa grease??
@TackleAdvisors6 жыл бұрын
Hey Max you may have gotten grease on the inside of the pinion that is hitting the spool shaft. That will slow it down significantly. Also I think Daiwa greased the spool bearings in that reel. And the service may have freed up or moved the existing bearing grease causing it to be sluggish

5:08 and 46:22, the orientation of that spacer or washer is inconsistent. Am I wrong? Just wondering the actual position.
@johntipton23546 жыл бұрын
I noticed this too, he definitely flipped flopped it. It's going to work ether way, but I would want original orientation. I would think that having the lifted wings toward the handle would cause less friction, ware and scratching to the drag star. It is possible that he had it in there wrong from the last time he reassembled the reel. He did say it was taken apart over and over again to get the video right.
@jeffsmith89586 жыл бұрын
It’s correct the way he put it back together the wings should be facing outward. It’s actually kind of to each their own though some like the increased tension on the star and some prefer if a little more fluid. Either way the reel will function.

If the drive shaft bearing blows out, would that cause misalignment of the drive and pinion gears? When I have the drag all the way down, the reel will slip gears when reeling something big. Took the reel apart and discovered that the drive shaft bearing is really hard to turn and I notice there's a lot of play in the shaft itself (side to side). I can also tell that the drive and pinion gears are able to "bow" outwards, creating the slippage. I ordered a bearing, but wondering if I should've order additional parts for PM purpose.

I will mostly use it for float salmon fishing in the river, I also eventually want to learn and get into bass fishing as well its just that in my region, salmon is pretty much the go to fish. Just wondering which lexa hd would you recommend the most, hd400HSL-p, hd300HSL-p, or hd300XS-p? Is the higher 8.1:1 gear ratio on the XS of much significance? I'm a total beginner as you can probably tell lol. Huge thanks again!

Recently purchased a lexa 400 HS, non HD. Do you recommend upgrading to saltwater bearings for local saltwater use, or are the standard bearings safe to use?
@littlegoobie6 жыл бұрын
ah. took 40min to get there but i was wondering if you used grease or oil on the main/pinion. I've gone back and forth using various products. I've had a few reels lose smoothness in a short time which i thought was prematurely and i always wondered if it was grease vs oil or even the product i chose. I suppose i'll never know for sure. The one thing that makes me lean towards oil is the fact that several manuf include oil with their reels. I don't think any reel manuf ships grease in the box

I had this issue, a loud metal on metal screeching sound when I cast. I replaced the spool bearings but that wasn’t it. I ended up cleaning and polishing the spool shaft and inside of the pinion gear with 800 grit sandpaper and it fixed it. I think a grain of sand got in there between the two and caused a very tiny burr on the shaft.

Check to see if the spool is turning when pulling against drag. Or if the braid is slipping off the spool. If the braid is slipping. You have 2 options. Unspool and add in some mono backing. Or unspool and put a wrap of electical or duck tape on the spool. then wind the line back on. Some guys like leaving the arbor knot tag end long..laying it to the side and winding over it. ((I've done it that way too...but it's not guaranteed to stay put.)) Check that and let me know. As that's the most common reason this issue occurs

I️ have a lexa 400hd that I’m having issues with. I was wondering if you have ever seen the drag stay engaged when you put the reel into free spool? If there is even the slightest amount of tension on the spool the drag stays engaged. If you have no pressure on the spool you can achieve free spool like normal. I️ have taken the reel apart and put it back together a couple of times but can’t seem to figure it out. Anything I️ should look for that could be causing this?

SO the thumbar depresses all the way without issue? When you had the reel apart. Did you press down the thumbar with the pinion and spool still installed. And did the pinion clear the spool shaft pin? That's a tricky one without seeing it first hand. When that issue occurs. What happens if instead of trying to pull line out. You try to roll teh spool the opposite way. DOes the thumbar trip like you cranked the handle after a cast?

Tackle Advisors Yes the thumbar works as it normally should. When I️ had the reel apart I️ checked to see if anything was catching or binding up, but that didn’t seem to be. If spin the spool with the thumbar depresses it pops back up like normal. I️ just don’t know what would cause the drag to stay engaged only when there is pressure on the spool and you try to go into free spool (even just the weight of a heavier lure will cause it). I’m going to keep messing with it and see if I️ can find the cause. But if know of anything I️ should be looking out for that would be a step in the right direction. Thanks for the fast response!

The spool will spin freely as it should when the thumbar is depressed without popping up the handle up when you spin the spool. However if you take the line coming of your the spool and put any tension on the drag (even the slightest amount) press the thumbar the drag stays engaged and you do not get free spool. All you can do is pull line against the resistance of the drag, and the spool doesn’t spin freely because the drag is engaged. Turn the handle reset the reel. Release the line and the tension on the drag. Now press the thumbar down again and you get free spool like the reel normal does. It’s got me scratching my head. It’s has nothing to do with how I’m casting the reel. This is all sitting down at the work bench inside.

If you tighten the drag down. And turn the handle. Is there more resistance when retrieving??

I’m having this same issue and cannot figure it out. Press the thumb bar and spool is not free.

Have you found any major differences between the WN 300 and 300hd? Excellent video!
@jeffsmith89586 жыл бұрын
The main differences are in the materials also the HD uses 6 corrosion resistant bearings compared to I believe 2 on the WN. I think service should be the same but I’d wait for a response from the master.

I like ur vids. do u ever do reviews and take aparts on popular shimano spinning reels such as ci4 s , stradic fk , or sustains?
@TackleAdvisors7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man!! Shimano has been my favorite spinning reel company for as long as I can remember. But prior to starting my channel i sold off a ton and exclusively fish stella fi's I'll be fishing with my buddy from shimano later this week.....gonna try and sneak a few reels without him knowing :) I had planned on doing a what makes a stella...a stella....but it appears I may have worn the gear set out as it's developed some play in the handle.....which is very strange considering it's an FI so it's not tha told.....So I gotta send it out to shimano for replacement parts before I do it. ((wanted to do it this month but figured I'd wait for the repair.

I just ordered every daiwa spinner from the exceller through the saltiga. So I want to cover the newest reels . So the exceler, fuego, tatula, ballistic, BG, saltist, saltiga. Are on their way. BG was supplied by a subscriber. Old ballistic is here as well to compare and contrast. If i can't get anything from my shimbuddy....I'm gonna steal a stradic from another youtuber cooking and fishing ;)

Thanks brotha!! I'm psyched to see how they compare as well! They sound like they come equipped with a great gear train. I really wonder how they differ from the brand new JDM 2018 steez. The 5 year plan for daiwa is very interesting. If the sustain is what we can expect for the next few years from shimano....ooof...I may jump to team daiwa for my spinners.

Re-watching this. I’m gonna buy a 300 hd. Nick , try Maxmia waterproof grease. I like it a lot. Reminds me of daiwa space age grease. $9 for a big tub.

Here's a vid that that I didn't put out that shows how versatile the brake is....it's the 400 but plugging in a small craft advisory was perfectly fine and I was casting the same distances as the guys tossing their 1500$ setups. I'll check it out down the road once i go through the stuff i have now. I'm really happy with the aquashield stuff.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6fXaaZ8fbBgrJI

No problem. Damn that's a steal. My price through the vip form with shipping is barely under that to give you an idea. That'll be a fun setup for sure.

It's a very good reel....I've not fished the majority of them.....While i have my preferences...all are pretty good. I really like the tranx 300/400, new revo beast 40, Lexa 400 (i like that one more than the 300) 13 z3 is pretty cool too. The komodo's are tanks too if you plan on fishing bait.

can Penn blue grease be used
@TackleAdvisors7 жыл бұрын
Sure. Grease is preference and trial and error. While I prefer yamalube over penn. There are tons that prefer the opposite. 99% of the time. Fresh grease is better than old, none, or imulsified grease

Great tutorial. I just have one question. When I tighted the handle with the last bolt, it seems there is a bit of wiggle room between the winged washed and the handle when the real's drag is all the way in. This causing the real handle to move left to right. When I loosen the drag the winged washer comes into contact with the handle and no handle play is there anymore. I didn't lose any parts or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmm did you tighten the nut all the way and is it threaded on properly as in not cross threaded. It may even when tight have a bit of forward reverse rotation under load but it shouldn't be floppy and loose goosey
