the problem with levis is how inconsistent their fitting is. i have a pair of 501s bought from a retail store that fits differently from a pair of 501s bought online (same size different wash). this video is great though for getting the gist of the different cuts.

​@@truckin3266 Hi there, fyi a different dye will always fit different in size. Lighter wash = looser fit (due to the fabric being more flexible), darker wash = tighter fit.

For many years (and even now) my go-to is the 511. For my height and weight it's perfect, but in recent years I branched out to the 501 and 505 and I love those styles as well. I know this video took a lot of time, money and effort so thank you very much for providing this for us!

Levi's Men's 501 Original Fit-Jeans, Black Coffee-Garment Dye, 40W x 32L just bought a pair and i have to say that i sized up from a 38 and its the best decision EVER fits like sweat pants its so comfortable and looks very good. You woundlt know i even sized up. Definitely love the Black Coffee brown color.

I wore 501s for decades, but when the 511 lower rise came out I changed over. The bit of stretch, slimmer fit and low rise fit me perfectly. It seems that the rise is not as low as it started out.

AMAZING video bro. I think I liked the 514s the most. Been trying to find the best jean cut that works well with low shoes (Nike Killshots, Adidas Gazelles, etc) but also with dressier "work" boots (Thursdays, Red Wing Iron Rangers, etc) and it's been quite a journey

I’ve been a 501 guy for most of my adult life. I don’t remember the exact number but back in the mid-to-late 90s Levi’s had a “Baggy” line, they weren’t as baggy as say a JNCO but not as skinny as a 501, I still have a pair of those somewhere, they were the perfect balance, although a little to baggy for my 40yr old self day-to-day, got me some 501s as I do each year but also bought a pair of 514s since they were on sale and so far I’ve been loving them, it’s kinda like my old Baggy Levi’s had a son with some O.G. 501s, if you prefer your jeans being not so skinny and being able to combine with a wide range of shoes and sneakers the 514s were a really nice surprise, highly recommended! With that being said I think that every wardrobe needs a pair of 501s, I prefer the O.G.s the STF remind me of the classic Cheap Monday´s Denim, though I admit I prefer the denim of the Cheap Monday´s with that said they look cool but aren’t the most comfortable for everyday use, especially without having any elastane they can be a bitch to take off.

One of the most frustrating things about shopping for jeans is trying on a bunch that don't fit right and then I get fed up. I can see that I like the 514, 550, and 559. In the 90s, the 569 were my absolute favorite! However, they may be a little too baggy these days.

My all time favourite from Levi's is the 503bxx model. Its a straight cut like the 501 but is much more relaxed through out. Love the silhouette. I picked one up form the Japanese LVC line a couple of years ago and its amazing!

The first Denim Jeans 👖 that was made for miners in the 19th Century didn't have any belt loops like modern Jeans. The first Denim Jeans actually had buttons for the suspenders the belt loops started appearing somewhere in the 1920's.

After I got tired of the button fly, I wore 505s and 550s for years. More recently I’ve bought quite a few pairs of 514s and 511s, which fit me great. But now in my early 60s, my body has changed and I need to go back to high-waisted jeans and use suspenders. I’m returning to the 505 and will see how that works.

there are a few more additions to the lineup - 551Z, 506, 568, the 555 and the 565 have reintroduced, the stay loose (no number assigned, just says stay loose on the leather patch), western fit and slivertab loose tapered and relaxed straight. though, i've only seen the 555 and 565 on the levis website. 551Z comes in several different fits - relaxed straight, loose straight and baggy.

I have an old pair of 501's that I love, but now when I try on a new pair of 501's the cut and fit seems totally different, like baggier and higher on the hip. The problem that I have with jeans and pants in general, is that many brands don’t offer 👖 with 28’ in length. Yes there are tailoring service, but where I live they charge almost the cost of the pants itself, so I won’t pay twice just to get it to fit me. Hopefully someone will market their products to short man. Same issue with coats and denim jackets, the arm length is always an issue. I would think someone would know that we all come with different leg and arm lengths 🤔

Personally (33"x32", 5'11", 180lbs) I like the fit and feel of the 501s & 505s with one size up (34") to have just a bit more room in the thighs. I have recently tried a pair of 511s Stretch (34“) and they feel comfortable and not restrictive like I thought they would be, probably because of the stretch. The perfect overall and go-to jeans are the 514s (33"), bar none, they fit right, look great and are simply comfortable no matter the activity. I also have to use safety boots at work so I'm looking for options. I really didn't like the fit of the 517 & 527 Boot Cuts because they are WAY too restrictive for my boys down there, even two sizes up. I have tried a pair of 550s (33") and they are growing on me. There is definitely plenty of room everywhere and I can use them with the work boots.

The 501s today are so much softer today than when I was wearing them in hs 40 years ago. It took 5-6 washings to break them down. They were $10 on sale every fall at KMart.

I've been in Commercial Construction for about 30 years. Used to be, I only wore 501s for work and play. About 5 years ago I quit wearing them at work. They used to last for ages. Something has changed though. Within a week of buying them, since about 2015, I would get a year in the denim right along the outside of the button fly assembly from the crotch up. It happened so many times over a few months I just stopped buying them as the quality has obviously been sacrificed. Too bad because I loved the fit for working on the slab.

Great video. Levi’s should definitely hire you, you’ve done a better job than their marketing team. Personally love the high waisted fit and material of the 501 shrink to fit. Levi’s elsewhere has been a dud in terms of durability, I’ve made a swap to the Wranglers MW13 Rigid Blue Original Cowboy Cut as my go to now.

This is the best showcase of Levis Jeans I've ever seen. The 550s looked great on you but with the Chelsea boots I think you need them to be longer because they looked way too short. I know that we all have different tastes and for me any jeans that hug your thighs tight are a hard no even if they have some stretch so all the ones that hugged your thighs will be off my try on list. @@ProfessorUFC The 512 feel a bit tighter but fit better with sneakers since they're shorter even at the same dimensions as my 511 (32W-30L), however I noticed later they have twisted seams. For the 502 I went with 31W. They're just a bit longer than 512 but shorter than 511 which I find perfect with boots but the leg openings are a bit too wide when wearing sneakers.

Great work reviewing the various styles!👍🏽 I’ve been wearing Levi’s for over 25 years now, experimenting with different styles. One thing I’ve noticed is that the dimensions have not been consistent over the years. For example…a 505 today fits differently when compared to a 505 from the 90s or 2000s. Same seems to be the case for other styles too. It gets a little dicey when we order online expecting the jeans to fit the way we expect it to.

Thank you for sharing this very detailed and informative video on Levi's. I am slim build and tend to stick with the 511's, They have slight strech and tick all the boxes for me. But, I find i still have to buy them from the shop as they vary in fit size and need to try on a few before finding my perfect fit so buying online is not an option.

I own 2 505 jeans from Costco. Initially they felt tight at the hips and thighs but after couple of washes, they really fit great. After seeing this video, I would like to get a 514.

I recently bought a bunch of foreign made 501's from TJ Maxx and Marshall's- from many different stores. They're not as good as they used to be, and they take some work, but they just fit better. If you get a pair of 501's to fit right - you will never go back.

Such a detailed guide on Levi jeans. Thank you so much. Just bought my husband the 505, love them. However, I was wondering about the pronounced yellow stitching around the pockets of the dark blue denim. From the looks of it, that's a common trademark for their dark blues. Thanks, again.

My only comment is “ I think he should wear a 32 inseam instead of a 30” but that may be a matter of a style choice. As I am 53 years old, I am looking as if I were wearing them in the eighties. I don’t know how the fashionable people are wearing them today. I really enjoyed the video and found it very informative and entertaining. Who knows, I may retire the old carhartts and buy me some new 505’s. Just like I used to wear 35 years and 100 pounds ago. lol.

Thanks for doing this video. The Levis numbering system never made sense to me.... and still doesn't to tell the truth. But seeing these all next to each other was super helpful. I'm glad you didnt try to get the best fitting one in each model, but got 30x30 in each one to really compare the differences. I do wish Levi's cleaned up there model numbers. In the mean time, I think 511 was my jean of choice.

i only have 1 pair of levi's, the 510's, but im thinking maybe i'll pick up some 514's. i like the way they look and will probably be more comfortable. i do got a few pairs of levi strauss, and i like them, especially the baggy carpenters. please do a video like this of every fit of Lee jeans, Lee is my favorite jeans brand.

The 511 stretch is by far the best-looking and most comfortable jeans I have. The only other brand that comes close to it is Eddie Bauer, but their selection is very limited.
