Or do what they did for Zarya in OW2 and give him two bubble charges with a long cooldown to recover charges and short cooldpwn on the ability so you can't do one directly after the other. Zarya bubble charges is probably the only good thing OW2 did tbh hahahaha

Magneto has a really good combo that I do when close to enemies to assassinate squishes or chunk off tanks. It goes primary, cancel into melee, cancel into mag cannon (yes you can cancel melee with mag cannon), then one more primary. This combo will full kill anybody, even wolverine minus the passive. The combo can feel hard to pull off, but once you get into the groove of constantly canceling your abilities it really feels good

His ult absorb/cancel feels WAY too short. I've had so many fights were my ult was canceled after less than a second of absorbing damage. I don't think Magneto's Ult should be an infinite use, but holy shit does it need to absorb more damage. Especially for how long it takes to charge. Either let his ult absorb way more damage, or don't let the damage cap cancel the ult. I don't care if it hits harder or if there's a damage cap, I just hate that Magneto's ult can be canceled so quickly. Magneto hardly feels like "The Master of Magnetism" when a well placed Punisher turret can cancel Mags ult, or survive his ult if used too soon.

Right now in the comics it's up in the air again but it's only a matter of time before they retcon Magneto back to being their biological father now that the X-Men are coming to the MCU. The Magneto not being their bio father retcon literally only happened because in the 2010s the head of Marvel was salty about Fox owning the X-Men film rights. They tried to replace the X-Men with the Inhumans too which failed miserably. And during that time they weren't allowed to create any new mutants as well. In X-Men TAS & 97 he is definitely their biological father. The popular consensus from fans is that is he still their biological father.

He's great in theory, but his defensive abilities feel like they last way too short to be effective when enemies are focus firing. Sure, great vs pub games but I rarely see him as a threat even when playing as squishy strategists like Rocket who shoots. It feels like he needs to play like a duelist and know where the health packs are or have a dedicated healer. Without communication he's extremely easy to the enemy team to either ignore or focus first, entirely mitigating his effecitveness especially with the number of melee-happy characters. He's got zero counters or survivability vs characters like Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Magik or Thor other than a two-ish second invuln. At this point, without a team, I'd never pick him at all unless I had a Scarlet Witch on the team. Sorry, but easy to play for beginners my arse. Surefire way to get newbies to rage quit.

I mean... He is great in practice as well haha. Strange/magneto is the #1 tank combo in top competitive, and he has some of the strongest mitigation in the game. The issue is in lower skill lobbies, players play over aggressive and don't take their time. Learning how to be a bit more strategic and how to defend a team with powerful short duration skills is really valuable.

Yeah, I just think you are misunderstanding the point of the recommendation. He is the best choice because he teaches you the skills and values to actually get better. Playing 100 games as Magneto is going to teach you a lot more about actually getting good at this game than jumping into Captain America or Venom and trying to learn vanguard. Mag's kit is simple, no combos, no animation cancel requirements, a reliable set of attacks that while requiring aim, are rather forgiving, and really strong shields. As you play him, you'll learn how to use those strong shields, and how to value shield usage, and how to do things like counter ultimates, protect teammates, and influence the match through protection rather than through sheer damage. I'm not making this guide to teach you how to be silver and below, and the best way to get above that is to understand these things.

@@ZestyGuides I acknowledge what you're saying, but the video makes it seem like he's an easy tank to practice with and tank and most first time players even after watching this will get destroyed in quick play lobbies because they think they're actually tanky for more than three seconds and not realize they're going to get demolished by melee, rage quit and stop playing. Yes, he's good to change your mentality on the game, but I'd strongly recommend new players treat him as a support DPS until they get the feel for him. That's how I started to do better with him and even now I'd rather not play him unless as a counter pick IF there's a Wanda

Yeah that was missed, to be fair, this guide was recorded 2 days after release of the game, at the time we thought the ult just disappearing was a bug that would get fixed, as there were a few things that weekend that acted a little funny. Still hoping they just drop that part of the mechanic because it feels really bad.

This particular guide was very much directed at new players. The animation cancelling melee combos is way outside of their wheelhouse. The difference on mags is way lower than any other character that can do a melee combo.

That's a personal choice that differs from game to game and your mouse DPI. Go in training mode and tweak it until it feels good.

I did not say it was a small hitbox, just that it wasnt very effective. Playing around with it, the effect doesn't really match the visual well, and it is more vertical than horizontal. Combined with the slow animation and terrible damage, 99% of players are better off never using it

So as Magneto you should be pretty close to your backliners, using your shield to protect them, and if soemone jumps on them a quick turn and E to invulnerable them, then using right click to knock the target back. If your backliners are that far from you, that you need a Hulk jump or something to get to them, then a combo of their positioning and yours is a problem, gotta know where they are and be sure you're in position to protect them. Just takes practice!

Ah, yeah he is not as flashy or impactful as a lot of other characters. I think when played well he can make a pretty big difference if you use his defenses well, but definitely more of a B tier character once you get deeper into the game. Outshined hard by Groot, and Hulk. I really hope they decide to make his Shift ability reflect the shots that it blocks. Sending bullets back at people is a magneto go-to, and would make the very short duration of the ability feel a lot better.
