Nice video well done. Next time you put skid plates on a canoe you need more resin soaking into the Kevlar Matting otherwise they will eventually crack and fall apart as they hit a hard surface. Air pockets in the matting will do that.

They are fully saturated. About 4000km later I have worn far enough through in a few spots to tell for sure 😂 Probably going to try Dynel next time.

Oh man. Those anchors were a very expensive learning experience for me! Lol. I have plans to buy a NovaCraft Supernova next season, and i think i am going to have all of my outfitting professionally done.

I have the exact same boat and wanted to thank you for giving me the confidence to install my float bags..anyhow in case you didn't notice (forgive my lack of proper canoe terms) the black "decking" at each end of the boat has two screws that go through the wooden support..those screw ends are kind of sharp and could puncture a float bag.. I just screwed acorn nuts on the exposed end and problem solved.
@jasonbayens9 ай бұрын
Glad it helped with outfitting your boat! That’s a good solution to that issue. Mine came with rubber caps on them but the acorn nuts might be a better solution. Happy paddling!

Thanks for the video. When you drilled the gunwales for the "p"clips, Esquif has a strengthening rib inside the gunwale. Which side of the rib did you drill? I don't want to drill right in the centre where that rib is, as it might effect the rivet not setting properly. Thanks .

Hi Jason, what sized P clips did you use, I love this set up! 🇬🇧

I believe I used 3/8”. Could have gotten away with a bit smaller but wanted to make it easy to lace the cordage through. Glad you like it! It has performed excellent on all its trips.

How many ml or oz are the bottles of epoxy that you used. I found 118ml bottle but would like to know if I would need more
@jasonbayens9 ай бұрын
You will need more if you are using it for skid plates. I believe I used about 300ml per skid plate.

Very nice. Did you consider foam saddles? I outfitted two canoes, each solo foam saddle. Comfort and good performance, but perhaps I'm missing a good reason for sitting on wood and web.
@jasonbayens Жыл бұрын
My playboat has a foam saddle but this boat is used for multi week long trips and 10-12hr days on the water. I often switch between kneeling and sitting throughout the day to stay comfortable.

Everything I need to know in one video. Great content! Drilling holes in any boat makes me nervous but seems like the risk is minimal. What are your thought on lacing the entire boat?
@jasonbayens Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don’t see a need to lace the whole boat unless you need it to tie down a spray deck or something.

What size were those p-clips? I’m thinking about using them to creating some “lashing” points for lightweight items near the seats. 3/8” rivets, was that the size of the hole on the p clips?
@jasonbayens Жыл бұрын
I believe the hole on the clips is 1/4” and it was a 3/16” rivet. 👍

What bag/equipment ring and cord are you using for your spare paddle and what line are you using for the grab handles? Thanks !
@jasonbayens Жыл бұрын
The anchor the spare paddle Is tied to is from mike yee outfitting and it’s just standard 540 paracord tying it in. The grab handles are a sterling rope prusik cord with a 3500lb minimum breaking strength.

@jasonbayens Жыл бұрын
Ya I can’t remember exactly where I got them from but it was online. Most electrical supply stores will have them as well. Some people use the plastic ones I just went with the coated stainless cause I figured they would never break.

Awesome walkthrough!! Thanks! Plan on using this to outfit my future Esquif Prospectuer. How do you find the weight of the 15? Is it truly 60 pounds? I hear that the 16 is much more than the advertised 65 pounds.

Thanks! Mine was 60lbs when i picked it up. I haven’t weighed it since I did the outfitting though to see how much weight I added.

I just bought the same boat and have been researching float bag installs. Is there a reason you went with the clips instead of drilling the hull? It seems like holes are dirt simple, but the clips could pull out. Im a novice, so these are just questions.. thanks
@jasonbayens9 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I just find the clips give it a cleaner finish and I hate drilling holes through the side of my boat haha

Jay..just watched you and Tosh on his latest whitewater.. nice trip. Question? Why not use a removable yoke?
@jasonbayens2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, This is primarily a solo boat for me so I only had to turn the yoke around once. The yoke also provides structural integrity to the hull when bolted in.

Thigh straps and a kneeling position where most of your lower leg is underneath the seat look like a recipe for entanglement in a capsize.
@jasonbayens2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had an issue bailing out but I can see why you would be concerned about that. Like everything you should practice and get comfortable with it before you put yourself in a dangerous position. It’s easy to push the straps down off your knees and there is always the quick release buckle on either side.
@thecount10012 жыл бұрын
easy to get out of if you are familiar with it, practice it and maintain composure in a moving water capsize.
