Pruning the big branch is primarily for formative purposes. We do not want our trees to grow very tall - for ease of harvesting and be more resilient against strong winds.

How do you know what to prune and what to leave? My tree is huge with a lot of branches that have flowers. Should I take off the tall ones and ones that fall the ground?

First identifier are water sprouts - since these compete with the fruits and flowers for nutrients. Second identifier are branches that grow inwards - we want our branches to grow outward so that there is enough wind circulation inside the tree and sunlight can penetrate. Third identifier are branches that grow too tall, tall enough that the fruits would be hard to reach - we want our trees to be manageable and easy to harvest.

Sir what fertilizer do you use in your cacao and when to apply fertiliser

We don't use fertilizer right now. We just put back the cacao pods around the trees after getting the beans. Cacao pods are rich in potassium which is necessary for Cacao fruit formation.

As much as possible we would want to maintain the height of the cacao tree to less than 6 feet for easy harvesting.

Ginagawa po namin sa farm, pag 2 years onwards pa po yung Cacao pag may tumutubo na mataas na sanga para di masyado mahirap mag harvest. Usually twice a year bago mag tag ulan.
