Great Video for beginer like me. Actually I am professional teacher in school for Robotics lesson. Now I am old enough ( 74 ) and step into plantations. My first plantions are Fruits and vegetables such as Banana Cabbage and Chillie. I have zero knowledge of my time passing job. Viewing in KZbin videos mostly from Philippines expart and farmers uploaded. Especially Banana platations so now I do well with my small farm. Fortunately because of my success story my friend from our church council gave me her Cacao farm newly planted but not yet complete. Actually their family main business was rice mills and many others so no man power to take care of Cacao farm. That's why I can get it. As per this video teaching me, I am dare to take responsibility to get green and having good quality fruits. Thank you so much for original uploader for this Cacao lesson. I am sure will come with my questions or query for my new farm. Advance wishing you all "" Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2021 "". May God Bless all of you. Very informative.. Thanks for sharing sir.. Tanong ko lang sir how many pods kaya can be harvested in a month per tree., at saka how many pods to make a one kilo of fermented beans... Baka mkatulong ito pag forecast for long term ROI.. Kasi We've started planting 900 cacao trees last yr, kaya lang medyo malaki na nagasto namin dahil we are paying for fixed monthly rate sa caretaker, direct labor, materials & other overhead cost. hindi kasi kami nag undergo nang seminar, coaching lang. I need to compute to compute for cost and return analysis.. Salamat po...
@cacaocultureph3 жыл бұрын
I can not promise you that you will get this numbers but the well managed farms that I've seen is having 3kg of dried beans per tree per year. If you are able to reach that based on your current trees that's 2.7 tons of dried beans. National average is just less than 1kg dried beans per tree. Depending on your farm practice, it takes 2 years for the trees to start fruiting, then at year 5 pa po sya maging mature. Maraming factors po talaga and labor cost per area po differ greatly. Also how you manage your farm effect your output. I hope our answer helped you. Good Luck on your cacao journey

Standard distancing is 3x3 for cacao and you can plant banana in between. However there will come a time when the cacao trees have grown and it will be hard for bananas to grow. Take this into account. Banana will earn during the early years then transition to cacao.

Hi! Thanks for sharing! Can you share at least how much to start a cacao farm? Like for example how much you spend when you start a cacao farm. I have no land and I really wanted to start a cacao farm. And is there an easier or cheaper way to start a cacao farm? Thanks!
@cacaocultureph3 жыл бұрын
Hi Uchiha, thanks for watching our videos and supporting the channel. For your question it is very difficult to share a precise amount because there are a lot of variables in terms things that you need to consider and account for. For us we are leasing the land at a low price for long term (15 years). If you own the farm land then that lowers your cost. If you plan to buy land then the figures will be vastly different. Sourcing of planting materials ( cacao seedlings) in our area range would be 15-25 pesos per seedling - 1 hectare can have 1,100 seedlings planted in proper distancing so on the higher cost that 27,500 but you also need to consider transportation cost to your farm etc. the best estimated investment is 300-500k range per hectare. I hope that our answer was able to help you out. Good luck on your cacao journey

Hi thank you for watching our videos. We personally refrain from sharing detailed numbers because we know that not all factors will be the same for everyone. We might do a video on our own breakdown but i'll have to dig on our records from 2017. But I am fairly certain that a good guide/estimate of cost would be 300-500 pesos per tree for initial startup cost. (1 hectare 1,100 trees). I hope that this answer has helped you. Good luck on your cacao journey.

Good Day Sir, I am a 3rd year BS in Agriculture student of VSU major in Horticulture specializing plantation and I am planning to have a thesis study of cacao seedlings however I am struggling of finding a thesis problem about cacao seedlings, thus, I would like to ask sir what are the problems you have encountered of growing cacao seedlings?
@cacaocultureph3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carol, thank you so much for watching our videos and for commenting on our channel. I think there should be a standardization of cacao seedling cultivation process that would lead to optimum seedlings to be planted on the field. Like how big seedlings bags are, the height of the seedling trunk before grafting (measurements). How to identify weak seedlings for culling. Most of what I am sharing here are protocols based because farmers tend to plant everything kasi "sayang" which will lead to lower farm yield kasi pangit pala ang seedlings that they were growing. I don't know if the answer helped you in your quest for a thesis topic but for us I would appreciate how horticulture scientific approach can be simplified to communicate to the common farmer on how to cultivate better seedlings.

Hi King Marvin, Thank you for watching our videos and supporting our channel. We are not very familiar with the local market of Tangub City for tablea or cacao products but I am sure there would be some sort of local market for it. With regards to marketing cacao beans, are the farmers assured of stable market price with good returns, or the price fluctuates, how does government agencies or NGOs assist the farmers competitiveness. Are there cooperatives or processing plants to enhance pricing of raw beans? I'm thinking to invest on cacao farming but needs some assurance. Thank you.
@cacaocultureph2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, cacao is a commodity so it is subject to price fluctuations and changes. There are no assurances in the business. There are different NGOs and cooperatives that helps level the prices but ultimately it does depend on market forces. Location also plays a factor in terms of price. I think in any business there are no assurances.

Interesting, how can I know or select good seed from a pot of cacao
@cacaocultureph2 жыл бұрын
Good seeds for planting you need to start with cacao variety with big seeds as your root stock. Then you let it grow and select those seedlings that grew poorly and take them out of the lot (this process is called culling) , leaving only the best growing seedlings to be planted on your farm. Usually people don’t want to waste the seedlings they planted that’s why they want to plant all of it in the farm (even the bad ones) so they end up with poor growing trees

Sir good evening..I just wanna ask po if cacao is planted with carnava banana..paano po ang magandang layout ?and what is the distance between the crops ?salamat po sir..
@cacaocultureph3 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie thanks for watching our videos and supporting the channel. For your question, it's quite hard to say without knowing the current situation of your land but you can go with the standard cacao layout of 3meters x 3meters spacing. Determine the orientation kung saan ang path when you will start to harvest. then pag na decide mo na, make sure lanes are clear between the cacao trees. kapag na determine mo na ang harvest lanes mo and you are now facing the rows of cacao tree then you can plant banana along that rows in between the cacao trees. sorry if medyo magulo ang instructions but my suggestion po is make sure you have clear harvest lanes, do not overplant the bananas dahil magugulo ang layout. I really hope you get what im trying to say haha pasensya na po if magulo.

Thanks Camille for asking this question. Placing fronds around the newly planted cacao seedlings are typically done to provide shade and offer certain type of protection. You will usually see this implemented sa area na clear pa and wala pa ibang tanim. In our cacao farm we did not implemented this because we planted bananas before planting the cacao seedlings, so the banana served the purpose of providing shade. Can you share how much yield per year. Or any ideas on estimated profit per number of cacao trees or area of plantation per month / year/ or season. How’s the market for cacao, outlook. Demand, etc.. thank you!
@cacaocultureph4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mrk G for commenting on our video. We desperately want to say that cacao farming is going to be always profitable but we are realistic and unfortunately there are a lot of factors that play into this. National average is below 1kg per tree and that is not good at all. We are far from being experts at this and we’ve seen high yielding farms that can produce 3kg-4kg per tree annually. Also you have to take into consideration local demand in the immediate area of your farm. Baka low ang buying in your local area. Pre-covid numbers indicate Market for cacao globally is increasing primarily in Asia because of rising income levels. However with the pandemic there was a definite drop in the numbers but outlook is still positive.

If that is the case give it time to rest bago mag prune. Dahil you have induced stress on the plant during transplanting. Pruning add to that stress sa plant so I advise to give it some time to rest. Maybe a month.

@@cacaocultureph Hi, salamat sa pagsagot. For context, nabili ko po yung cacao seedling from a nursery last month then this month na plant ko na sa lupa. Gets ko na, magwait lang ako ng at least a month before pruning. Many many thanks for taking your time to respond, and more power to your YT channel. 😊

Hello good sir, just watched your video and It was very informative I have a question for you. I'm from Egypt and soon I'm going to just plant a cacao seedling because I wanna try it myself is there's any tips you can give for a beginner?
@cacaocultureph3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marmartota, thank you for watching and subscribing to the channel. first thing is I am not familiar with the weather in Egypt if it will be suitable for cacao. Maybe you can research on that first because the environment where cacao will grow is very important.

Sir,ano ba ang magandang itanim grafted or not?why?
@cacaocultureph4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking this question. Actually marami parin nag debate about grafted vs ungrafted. For us Grafted seedlings (especially if the scion used is from a good and productive cacao tree) gives you consistency sa mga seedlings mo that you will plant in the farm. It also allows you to decide which varieties to cultivate sa farm. If ungrafted, parang hit or miss kasi at the seed level you won’t know which ones would be productive or not. So when you plant them wala consistency. Short answer is go with grafted seedlings. Things to note: good scion from productive mother trees, as seedlings grow do scheduled culling of weak seedlings. Dapat ang maitanim sa farm mo would be the strongest seedlings. Wag mahinayang if you need to dispose of weaker seedlings kasi it will grow into a weak tree na di productive so ikaw din mag suffer in the end

Hi sir, what is the minimum land area in starting a cacao farm? Thank you
@cacaocultureph2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking nick. Cacao deals with hectares of land. If may 1 hectare or less we suggest to look for other opportunities. 3-5 hectares is good starting point but again there’s a lot of other factors to consider.

@@cacaocultureph Thank you for your answer sir. I'm an architecture student and my thesis is all about an infrastructure for cacao's development and innovation. If I may, I would like to ask a few questions about cacao. 1. Do you have a market to where you export you cacao harvest for food innovation or a facility where it can be improve through research and development? If yes, does the facility really need its own farm or it can be grown on a different location? 2. What is the best soil type for growing cacao? 3. Is it possible to grow cacao in a greenhouse? 4. What are your thoughts on facilities involving cacao like Research and development buildings and Food Innovation buildings, is there really a need in such facilities? Thank you so much it would aid my thesis a lot.

hi po..I would like to ask a question regarding the shading needed po while we plant the cacao in to the field..So very unfortunate for us not to have planted crops for shading prior to planting the cacao seeds like what you did as we were also zero knowledge when we bought our cacao seeds..Please give us your suggestions.. and we are talking of around 3,000 cacao seeds from our nursery which is 4 months old as of the moment.
@cacaocultureph4 жыл бұрын
Hi Charina, thank you for commenting on our video. While we do not know fully your situation I hope that our answer may help. While it is common local knowledge that for cacao tree farm development, shade trees like banana and coconut would benefit the farm and cacao trees overall it is not entirely a requirement. You can still plant cacao trees in your farm without shade trees but you should instead plant a leguminous plant called Macuna Braceata. It is a nitrogen regulating plant for the soil. Typically used in rubber plantations. While this plant may not give you the secondary income like bananas it will allow you to still grow your cacao trees without having to plant shade trees. Good luck on your cacao journey 🍫🇵🇭 we hope we were able to help.

We mentioned this in a different video. The answer is yes pwede mag tanim sa slope but it will be difficult pag harvest time po. Mahirapan po yung tao sa pag harvest. Medyo costly but if pipilitin mag tanim sa slope i suggest parang rice terraces style to prevent erosion and easier farm management
