One thing to remember about the trash units, is that there are several +1 and even a +3 damage artifact in the game. Along with the brutal skill, this can make your early units incredibly deadly. This is true for rats more than any other unit. 100 plauge rats, 2-3 +2 from brutal, +1 from artifact, cast low tier psychic spear on your own unit to berserk for another +2. 97 rats with 7-8 damage. that will one shot most lategame stacks if you can get the rats close enough in one piece. but its still only half of a build. the rats purpose is "deal with me or die", allowing you to do other stuff in the backline. unless you have perfect artifacts and have 8 stacks of 160 plague rats with 9 hp each and 9-10 damage (without berserk). spec into prepared and positioning for +2 troop movement at tier 3. and take eager at lvl 24 for another +2 and your enemies can say goodbye to all their units before they have a chance to move. yet however fun this might sound. you need the artifacts for this to work. so it is very situational and probably only has a chance on large maps or with incredible luck

THANK YOU, I didnt find these videos until after I'd tried watching someone elses 2 year old (and hence VERY out of date) guides, but these were exactly what I was looking for! Never played HOMM and got this a while after watching the Sseth video and was utterly hopeless the first 2 times I tried playing. Third time was definitely a charm and now coming here midway thru has helped understand everything so much better.

Loth is a late blooming faction, all their units in the early game for the most part suck until upgraded the exception being rats they are an extremely cheap and deadly throwaway unit for pushing early to mid game resources. Every faction has its early game units your not supposed to generally keep around later in the game, unless you heavily build around using that unit.

Oh that's nigh impossible to say honestly. My list would be really going into the triple digits I'm afraid lol. I have played so many games in my life that I really hold dear in my heart until today. I just can't pick a favorite :D
