Complete Photoshop Guide: Blurring the Background and Adding Bokeh

Learn how to edit a photo, blur the background, add bokeh, and add photo effects to make it pop from start to finish in Photoshop! This is a complete guide to editing and retouching a raw photo.
Starting with Adobe Camera Raw, we will adjust the exposure, the light, and color. Then, we will move to Photoshop and add a shallow depth of field effect by blurring the background. Next, we will learn how to dodge and burn to add dimension to the bird.
Then, we will move on to adding flares to make the image warmer. To get the attention of the viewer towards to subjects we will add custom vignettes. In the end, to add finishing touches, we'll use ACR again with curves to add contrast to make the image pop.

Great tip on opening in camera raw- never knew that option was available for cs5. Wish though that there was option to open as usual,in photoshop, or right click a photo and select "open in camera raw" instead of going through the "open as" dialog in photoshop

This is the best method in case you didn't get the blur when taking the photo but still best idea to get it with the blur if you can since there are stuff that he forgot to add such as the fact that the subject have some blur around the sides too and not just the whole body being sharp. Not to mention the amount of time it takes to make these edits are very time consuming to do for a full album.

Awesome video and tool teaching. I watched the part where you "separate the peacock" like 5 times and still cant understand the work flow. I struggle with doing this all the time - selecting an object, try to blur the background, and get fuzzy edges. Do you have any other tutorials? THANKS!

Also, onone has an option when selecting to use the "perfect brush" which does a really good job. Woild be nice if photoshop had that option as well. Photoshop (the old versions) really needed a lot of improvements for little things. Wish Adobe would do an update for cs 5 users and charge for it. Woild purchase in a heartbeat. A quick way to have selected most of the bird would,have been to "select color range" then refine from there
