Since my tires are already heavily worn (even after less than two months ownership), I decided to install a set of street tires to finally complete the "Super Moto" look that I'm going for. I also used this opportunity to find out the largest tire sizes that can possibly be fitted on a Razor MX650 or MX500. I went too large and had to make some modifications to the rear swing arm to make it work.
Larger Tires that fit the stock FRONT Wheel:
. MMG 3.0x16" (for 12" Rim) w/Inner Tube Combo: amzn.to/3cHk6ON
. MMG 2.5x16" (for 12" Rim) w/Inner Tube Combo: amzn.to/3PyYB0V
. MMG 2.75x16" Street Performance (For 12" Rim): amzn.to/3RWj3dK
Larger Tires that fit the stock REAR Wheel:
. MMG 3.5x10" (Needs Clearance Modifications): amzn.to/3PzjLMz
. 3.5x10" Inner Tube: amzn.to/3yZcZsi
. (2-Pack) 3x.5x10" Inner Tubes: amzn.to/3J3NV8b
. Kenda 3.5x10" (Needs Clearance Modifications): amzn.to/3PM5Lyy
. Kenda 3.0x10" Street Tire: amzn.to/3J2c2nC
. Kenda 2.75 x10" Street Tire: amzn.to/3v88VVu
Tools that help with this Install:
. Gorilla Force Tire Levers (2-Pack): amzn.to/3crNBnk
. Gorilla Force Tire Levers (4-Pack): amzn.to/3PVZrEZ
. ABN Metal Tire Levers: amzn.to/3PvPeze
. Tire Lever Spoons: amzn.to/3z2wKiE
. Bike Floor Pump w/Gauge: amzn.to/3ouxTe5
. Schwinn Air Pump w/Gauge: amzn.to/3zsV4vp
My build list (as of this time):
. Razor Dirt Rocket MX650 Electric Bike: amzn.to/3yS2U1A
. Mighty Max 12V 12AH SLA Battery: amzn.to/3yOuzPR
. KUNRAY 2000W 48V: amzn.to/3zafycp
. Fast Scooters 55-Volt Charger: ebay.us/ISO7xc
. 13-Tooth 25H Sprocket: ebay.us/N3bjVg
. DNM 165mm Rear Shock: amzn.to/3yUP9PA
. Pro Taper 8.6" Handlebar Pad: amzn.to/3Rl9Vit
. FOX Racing decal: amzn.to/3yUDtwg
. Nilight 6" LED 6000K Light Bar: amzn.to/3c5WcMw
. 7/8" Handlebar Light Switch: amzn.to/3nRkD2J
. Pro Chaser Voltage Step-Down Converter: amzn.to/3nUrt7L

Hey bro your abnormal tire wear is most likely due to low tire pressure.I have had my mx650 for 3 years plus with the same rear tire and I ride mine on road and off and I still have usable tread . Sometimes I ride it to work which is a 33 mile round trip.

one thing I noticed owning well over 20 mx500/mx650's is the wheels are not balanced and need to be tried in, some are better than others. I saw someone that had taken dirt bike rims and used the original hubs and new spokes. Looked great and rode smooth. Also had street tires.

Hey brother Pat, just wondering if there’s anyway that I could give some height to this bike? I was planning on trying to see if a 14inch rear would work but, looks like clearance issues. And maybe a 16inch front. Lmk what can I do for more height. The back tire mod on this bike looks good.
@PatOutdoors

Check out my later videos on the 72V Razor. I ended up installing a DNM 190mm Rear shock and Alter Ego fork, which raised the bike about 2.5" overall. You can't put a larger wheel on the rear without at least getting an extended swing arm fabricated. The stock fork will not fit a larger front wheel either. You can probably do a 14" front wheel with a pit bike fork though

@PatOutdoors
@PatOutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@JonahNAloha Unfortunately I have limited experience with those bikes besides overvolting the stock motor. I don't believe you can fit that wheelset size on that frame and fork. It would take a lot of fabrication and it may be easier to start with a larger bike if height is what you're looking for.

This looks like the same tires I have on my Mx650..... I can't help but love the supermoto look and it rides SOOOOO much better. Edit: O no, don't try the tire levers... I broke mine trying to do that and I had to get tire spoons to change them, it's insanely difficult to do but the spoons helped, but what helped the most was a little bit of soapy water and I left the tire in the sun for about 20 minutes before installing. Edit 2: Should have stayed w/ the 16x3 in the front and 10x2.75 or 10x3 in the rear.... You have to consider that the tire expands at speed.
@PatOutdoors
@PatOutdoors Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right. The tires are stiff and tire spoons are much more efficient. Also 10x3.0" MAX for the rear. I realized that too late, but this was simply just an experiment to find out what it would actually take to fit a tire this large. I get some rubbing on my motor casing due to tire expansion, but only if I go over 40+ MPH.
@xpndblhero5170
@xpndblhero5170 Жыл бұрын
@@PatOutdoors - That's what I've been telling people too because I see a lot of expansion on the 10x3, I couldn't imagine a 10x3.5... That would scare me, I'd be afraid of it popping at speed because it rubbed on the motor or something. Still an informative video and I appreciate that you actually succeeded on doing that w/ bike tire levers... I had to order spoons and wait 3 days before I could ride because mine was being particularly difficult and I broke my levers. LoL
@xpndblhero5170
@xpndblhero5170 Жыл бұрын
I recommend the 16x3 on the front and a 10x3.0 on the rear.... Its almost perfectly balanced and it rides like it's on rails, I'd like to have pit bike rims so I can fully trust the beads because 40+ mph starts to get scary when you remember you're on a "kids toy". 😁

Instead of struggling with a new tire with no rubber take and lay the tire on its side and lay a blow dryer on high blowing inside of the tire the air will circulate around inside there and heat the rubber or if you're somewhere with a lot of sun and it's hot outside lay it out in the sun and let the sun soften the rubber a little bit and if you have trouble getting the old tire off smoke it off for a little bit and get it hot and it will come off of the rim easier! Warm rubber is a lot easier to work with! At least that's what she said! LMAO but seriously warm the tire up it goes on and comes off much easier and when you start working the tire around One Direction and it starts coming off of the bead ahead of you put a knee on each side of it where you already have the bead seated and then use your tools to slide the rest of the tire onto the rim. I always change the ones on my Yamaha fz6r also. The front tire is a pain a lot of the times because you can't do a burnout with the front wheel to warm it up so you can take it off of the Rim easy.
