Seraphism is monstrously good, but they should listen to the community and dial back how hard they leaned into that outfit change concept. Personally, I like the idea of an aura of little fairies swirling around you like a whirlwind. I was also hoping for the more frequent use of Emergency Tactics idea be present during general use across the job, not just within that 3-minute buff

@@SubduedRadical For me, firstly I don't like forced glamour overrides. I dislike Reaper's Enshroud for the same reason of replacing my character and deleting racial features in the process. With RPR tho, it's part of the job's core identity and I typically won't see my enshrouded state between all the flashy attacks. Secondly, the design is "okay" to me on its own, but I don't like how much it clashes with the aesthetic of SCH. We go from tactician/academic looks to a white mage looking glam that's forced. And unlike Reaper, Scholar's never had transformation in its job design so it feels slapped on to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We're just getting more stuff that actually involves Seraph, since for a while she only was on the LB, and then on the summon. I always found it a bit strange that we were an arcanist with like, literally 2 different summons so it's nice we do something interesting with it.

Eugh. So an aoe dot that you can cast after applying the buff/debuff to an enemy thats a 2min cd and saved for boss fights that are nearly always only one target and are pointless applying to trash packs cause they die before the buff/debuff wears off. I miss SB SCH.

@@silvergrove8517 true, I wasn’t expecting much for a new DPS tool. I was more in favor in enhancing its shield and/or mitigation. That’s mostly how I see SCH as the job nowadays. Before this change, I had this request in mind to make Aldo or succor instant with the use of recitation. Instead going to use seraphism which is great to me. I’m not complaining, I’m getting what I want for SCH. It’s already strong as it is.

I like what I'm seeing for the higher end Scholar, but I really hope SE goes back and improves SCH's earlier abilities and gives them some more damage tools. One bonus DoT every two minutes is okay, but a little more bite *somehow* in the kit would be nice.

As a SCH main, the only thing I am not overly thrilled about is that Recitation and Deployment are no longer running the same timers. That was a very nice feature to be able to use during EW. I went back into Eden Savage recently and the amount of times I went to cast Recitation -> Deployment threw me off when I couldn't use Deployment lolol. SCH felt a LOT better in EW than ShB for me, so I am here for the (minimal) changes though.

SCH ended up being the healer I played most in EW, and I would argue that it is also the best one in the game right now, so maybe it doesn't need a whole lot more added to it. I am quite excited to see which healer wins my heart in DT...though it is probably not going to be WHM. :)

I have a question as someone that hasn't played ff14 in a long time: did they ever explain why they don't give Scholar other interesting summons to base their kit around like Kirin or Siren and instead chose to have the player transform into an angel, losing all their individual cosmetics? Did you try dissipation before popping seraphism? Would that still work? Worst cause we can still use fey illumination with it which is nice. Still it's nice ability to be able to do something about those multihit raid stacks and hp to 1 mechanics. All the other healers have way better tools to deal with those than SCH did in endwalker.

Fairy has to be out to use seraphism, so you would effectively use dissipation first and then seraphism from what I can tell unless you ran into an “oh crap” amount of damage and needed to pump out instant party heals

@@gazel7424 yeah. I preferred when sch was the job with the autonomous fairy and we had to manage DoTs and spread them for big over time damage while throwing out barriers. Now it’s the job with the really minor fairy while we scramble to toss up barriers that are eliminated in a single smack and only one DoT and one spamable AoE in the middle of the enemies (aka, where all the incoming damage is).

Seraphism looks like a fantastic skill mechanically but my god does that skin change look HORRENDOUS imo. If it works for you great but that basically is the epitome of everything I try avoid with my healer glamour. I would be ok if it were just the wings ala whm, but replacing your whole outfit is just too much. Really hope they add a toggle to disable it or at least tone it down.

Probably my favourite AF gear for Scholar so far. Everything else though? Nothing I am too hyped about. Seraphism just annoys me visually. Why couldn't the form have been like an Aethetic admiral's cloak that drapes from the shoulders? If it absolutely has to be a transformation, then giving something in Scholar's class fantasy sphere would make more sense.

same for smn but I wanted them to remove energy drain/siphon and have Aetherflow deal damage total equivalent with fall off dmg for smn later on. the Energy actions just feel very off nowadays honestly. Seraphism while great effect, seems what WHM Temperance should have upgraded to, it's angelic and grants aoe regen. Very odd Is thematically lol.

And what is the strongest manifestation of your familiar? It's Seraph. That is why Seraph is your capstone summon AND your limit break.

For every one complaining about the aesthetic change, think of it like this. It starts off as a student to military tactician. Now the angels have always technically been there, helping you, with the fairies essentially being lower form angels. Since your a military tactician… in times of war sometimes you need a miracle, in this case angel. At least that’s how I made sense of the evolution.

SCH weirdly just becomes closer and closer to WHM, when talk about SCH, everybody talks about its crit shield, but in reality in savages a lot good SCHs would use crit heal, as long as ppl don't die from incoming dmg, crit shield and crit heal does essentially the something. it is not me being greedy, but the reality; further more the class is historically being judged for eating its faeries for eatheral drain dps and leaving half of ur healing abilities disabled for a good 30seconds. I quit the job for the reason of A, I don't like hard casting GCD shields, ppl see your job signature plays of it but in reality the higher players don't. B, the greedy of needing to eating faeries for, again dps.... they just made GCD shields instant cast, and emergency tactics 1 second cd..........so they want SCH to play like WHM..spam gcds............ good job SE.

Perhaps just me but Seraphism doesn't actually seem too special relative to something like macrocosmos. It's still going to make you cast GCD heals which everyone's going to try to find a way around. Seems like another sacred soil unless there are frequent heal checks that require spamming hard casts like that. The Manifestation crit deploys are going to be hilariously huge though. Otherwise, job looks solid as always.

Not too excited by Seraphism. Aside from some of the identity issues people have with it, I find the idea of a GCD-centric buff on SCH really unappealing. With how healers operate in FFXIV, this skill only really shines in emergency situations in higher-end raids where you're basically forced to spam heals. After all, why would I use this when I can just get away with spamming broil and doing my basic healing gameplan? Compare this to something like, say, Temperance, where the skill is good in basically any situation thanks to it being passive (and the new temperance-upgrade skill is even an oGCD). in most of the game's content, Seraphism seems like it's basically going to end up being used for the passive regen and nothing else.

Exactly! I hate Dissipation. I've ALWAYS hated Dissipation. I remember when it first was added and you had to resummon Eos after it ended. I have always, and WILL always, HATE Dissipation. I want it removed from the game already or changed into Seraphism or something. Also dump Energy Drain while we're at it. It's a PATHETICALLY small difference for all the ink spilled over it.

I want the devs to explain why they couldn't just bring Bane and Miasma back. Why is the new dot locked behind Chain Strat? What's going to happen in double SCH comps? Was this done as an indirect nerf because god forbid the SCHs work together and layer Chain Strat? And wtf is Seraphism? Why are we turning into WHM? It's bad enough the demi summon (which is a mechanic even SMN players hate) sucks, both mechanically and thematically.

In 14, SCH is and has always been thematically more aligned with angelic features than WHM. Can't argue with people's tastes in aesthetics, but white robes are not the property of White Mage, and angelic features are certainly less WHM's thing than SCH in this particular game.

Seraph was only seen in the LB3 until SHB when she became a demi summon. The white robe has always been the staple of WHM since, well, white magic. I want true tactical gameplay with the military aesthetic back, please and thank you.

Seraph was also never really seen as an angel of any sort until they gave her a name that suggested it in ShB, which was where the angel themes really started. Until then the LB3 fairy was just a really glowy fairy. Scholar already had a very varied set of aesthetics in ARR--military tactician/medic with a heavy focus on biological warfare magic (poison and disease themed offensive spells and medicine themed healing spells) who also had a fairy companion. There was plenty of room to expand on any of those themes, but they have instead continually decided to split SCH off in even more directions, the angel transformation just being the biggest one yet. SCH just lacks any kind of cohesive aesthetic by this point, and is just a big mix of ideas all thrown together haphazardly, which is something that many players who really liked the original direction of the job are unhappy with.

@@ashtoreth1095 what do you mean, "Seraph" was never seen as an angel? The name itself could not scream more angel. Also, as far as I know, the SCH LB3 has always been called "Angel Feathers" and the "really glowy fairy" always looked like a bigger fairy than Eos and Selene, with distinct angel wings, so unless that changed at some point, what you say make no sense. Also it may be a me thing, but I really do not see the clash in aesthetic there. You, as the Scholar, are very knowledgeable about biology and military tactics and employ that knowledge to its maximum, supported by the supernatural help of your familiars. To me it makes sense that as you grow in power, your tactics become more effective but the raw power of your familiar is also expanded.

@@silvergrove8517 I'm pretty sure Seraph never had a name until Shadowbringers, which was when they started leaning into the angel stuff. From ARR to Stormblood there was basically no association with this angelic imagery except very vaguely in the LB3. So when they decided to start adding all these holy/angelic effects to the main job abilities, it naturally felt very similar to WHM which had already been getting a ton of "holy" effects for several expansions, even if its first truly "angelic" visual effect came at the same time (Temperance's wings). I did forget the LB3 name though, since that doesn't come up often. But even then, it was an outlier in SCH's design for multiple expansions. It was never a core part of it like light/holy magic and imagery is for WHM.

I'm not digging the transformation at all. Also why would you want another DoT in the current meta? And why the heck didn't they change Energy Drain? Why would you want a skill with such a low potency that gives the Scholar HP...instead of MP.. I don't know man Scholar feels like it doesn't really fit in. Great in a sense if you want less hominisation, but the job just does not feel good imo.

My problem with Scholar is that it's messy and has a very obvious identity crisis where its aesthetics are concerned and yes, that does matter to me. It's the only healer I don't like to play. Somehow in spite of being reworked every single expansion, Astrologian feels more cohesive and consistent both in terms of gameplay and aesthetics than Scholar does.

I really hate the Seraphism transformation. The effects of the skill make me go, "Wow that sounds awesome!" but, despite that, the way it changes my character just makes me want to play a different healer instead.

Energy Drain doesn't feel good to use, still. If I'm drowning in Aetherflow stacks in aoe, 100 potency on one enemy while Art of War/II does 150-180 on *each* enemy makes Energy Drain feel like a waste. Also, I think every SCH main forgets that Energy Drain even recovers hp because the amount is so small it might as well not exist. I daresay it competes with SMN's Physick in terms of healing usefulness.

I really wish they didn't make Seraphism transform you. I already didn't like it for RPR, but it was baked into the job so I was willing to forgive it. I hope they don't do that for more jobs in the future.

The wings made me laugh, thats a New level of lazy for the devs. Its just a fashion acc xDDD imagine making a unique model, something modders have done for years at this point. But no, we get a reskin of an item...

Seeing a lot of players really complaining about the new healing skill thats basically benediction on crack. Scholars just got Lightspeed with a passive regen for 20 seconds. you just can't win with these players man. i wonder if these players actually do hard content or are just complaining to just complain.

To be frank, people seem to just not vibe with the aesthetic of the skill, not really its function. I think SCHs by now should know better than to trash a skill before getting their hands on it after Expedient. But hey, if people don't like how it looks, they don't like how it looks.

@@silvergrove8517 Expedient's reveal video didn't show anything, just a Lala running 2 feet. We had literally no info whatsoever about what it actually does, so when you had all these flashy combos and animations for every other job, and then this very weird short clip for scholar, it was hard to not meme on Expedient. I blame the way it was presented. This is a different issue, people love the skill but hate scholar's identity crisis and glam removal.

I sometimes question if the devs play SCH. Unless fight design and mana is changed i don't think I'll even have seraphism on my bars because that is one of the most useless healing cooldowns I've ever seen. Using recitation into deploy already covers the vast majority of major damage spikes without burning through your mp like crazy. It's feels like the devs just copied rapture from wow without understanding the reason rapture is run isn't for the instant cast shields it's because it allows a disc priest to quickly apply attoment to a large group. One day the XI class dev will come back and turn SCH into a real tactian like it was in XI i hope lol
