Only thing that would have made the video better is a torque wrench that clicks 😁

When pressing a little bit of press first lube goes a long way. Spray it on before you put the parts in the freezer. Aids in pressing, helps prevent galling, prevents corrosion between the interference surfaces and axfs as one hell of a rust preventative. I have a few cans of Sunnen B-200 for any press work. One thing to consider is a large CO2 tank with a CO2 bag to create instant dry ice. Shrinks parts further than regular freezer time several tenths or thousands (depending on cross sectional thickness).

So wise , thank You . A fine example of Quality , precision , Properly applied Cold , and properly applied Heat .

Take a look at Cutting Edge Engineering Australia. He uses liquid nitrogen for races and such. The part drops right in with minimal effort and only takes a few minutes to bring it down to temp. Dropped by after watching Matt at Diesel Creek. Enjoying your channel. Subscribed..

I am slightly surprised you don't use liquid nitrogen to set the bearings. My guess is they would just drop in with no hammering at all from the far lower temperatures in comparison with a domestic freezer. I see Cutting Edge Engineering in Australia using this procedure.

The closest place that sells liquid nitrogen to us is about an hour away. Its more affective for our crew to use the freezer
@grahamstretch68639 ай бұрын
@@quintonbartolotta You keep a cryogenic tank on site, lasts ages and you put what doesn’t evaporate back in the tank. It’s not really a lot different from keeping Argoshield or oxygen and acetylene on site!

We use dry ice in isopropyl alcohol at work to shrink bearing races. Not as cold as liquid nitrogen but colder than the freezer

Get ahold out your local large animal vet and see who in the area provides AI service. My local guy tops off my tank every 3 months. About $60 each time

@@quintonbartolotta 60 years ago in the north of Scotland we used to use liquid nitrogen for fitting bearings in old cast iron textile machinery, where the risk of hammering breaking an irreplaceable part was too great. British Oxygen would come around every three months or so and top up our Dewar flask. Sitting in a well insulated container, it was surprising how little got lost to evaporation. We had an insulated bowl to soak the bearings in and after that was done, we would pour the liquid back into the Dewar flask. The only problem we had was when a young apprentice thought it would be funny to dip a daffodil into the liquid nitrogen and then hit someone on the head with it. They needed a couple of stitches, as the broken edge of the frozen daffodil was razor sharp. Liquid Nitrogen is almost a waste by-product from cryogenic oxygen and argon manufacture and is surprisingly cheap.

fantastic to watch the painstaking precision and patience Damn sure the machine develops an additional sense of efficiency and reliability in the process ~ close to becoming ‘alive’❗️ Great to walk this re-building road within eye contact distance Surely hope the Contracted Operators are going to contantly show similar care, cleanliness and respect when they put it to work ~ no matter how hard or harsh the conditions at the field task…❓ A great thrill this, thank you kindly Keep it up, keep at it In the end you’ll be well rewarded with reliability and excellent operating output, lifespan 👊 🔥 ❗️

You need to find or make a rack for the oven to place the part in the center of it. Temp will vary a lot laying on the metal of the bottom.

Good thing you turned the drive over before you got the pin out of the freezer . ;)

Great video guys. But can’t understand why your not using liquid nitrogen and heat to fit those bearing race’s. It would save you 18 hours.
@mikerubynfs9 ай бұрын
We use a portable induction heater on races or complete bearings to heat them, normally takes less than a minute. Not cheap but a lot smaller and faster than an oven.
@professorfalken46009 ай бұрын
If your in a hurry freezing the races and pins use liquid nitrogen. 15 minutes rather than 15 hours. Used in Aero Space assembly’s

Try dry ice, plus, if you het the proper tank you could get liquid co2 from the beverage distributors!

The glass cooktop on the stove is an INDUCTION cooktop. The bearing is about the diameter of a cook pot. So laying the bearig on the industion element should heat it faster than the oven.

Some fellers will use that dry ice. Other Fancy Dans (looking at you, Kurtis) prefer liquid nitrogen. And that’s just in their mixed drinks!

3 flb difference on the bearing locks. One tech did 37, the other, 40. You know, I've seen "Killdozer". Exactly what happened there. 3flb difference on bearings and the dozer started getting everybody.!!

those nice square o-rings are called "quad rings" some of the bolts on those plates with the quad ring got over-torqued with the impact (tq wrench beeped before the bolt moved)

not impressed with there work at all . looks like a half ass operation and a disaster waiting to happen for the customer . And using a bar in that press looked like instant death
@Boss_kingz10179 ай бұрын
What torque wrench are you using?
@nimnow80609 ай бұрын
? The re torque ing how long does it take R Loctite to set ? as the time to do the others then reTorque ? 😮
@huckstirred71128 ай бұрын
why not use liquid nitrogen ? less risky to use a proper press .But if you warmed the gear to 300 and froze the bearing in liquid nitrogen it would drop in with out the hammer .I am sure you know that . It is common knowledge . Just curious why not

Not impressed with how you install bearing races. I think if you do your hits always 180 degrees apart it will take far fewer strikes to seat them. In other words, 180 apart, move 90, 180 apart, move 90 and so on.
