I think the reason that we hold on to those hair myths is because haircare is the first thing we had control over as girls. We may not have been able to wear makeup until older but our hair is something we could focus on so we believed all those weird things we were told as young girls. They are pretty deeply embedded in our thought process. Plus there aren't a whole lot of people out there trying to dispell those myths. Thanks for helping with that!

Hair fact that I wish I knew sooner is the difference between a clarifying shampoo and one that also has chelating properties. I only found out months after I moved into an area with very hard and also chlorinated water and my hair became an (seemingly) unfixable mess. Using a shampoo with not only clarifying but also chelating properties (in my case Joico K-Pak) once a week, followed by a nice hair mask, made all the difference :) In the long run, this also saved my sensitive scalp.

This is interesting! I have pretty hard water and I bought a shower head with a filter but use a gentle shampoo because I have a sensitive scalp and allergies so my shampoo definitely needs to be fragrance free, and I’ve found that harsh sulfates irritate it. A lot of products that are meant for sensitive scalps also don’t work for me because they contain ingredients such as salicylic acid that irritate my scalp, so I’ve been using a fragrance-free baby shampoo with a gentler kind of sulfate and shampooing twice and a bit more often, but I think I do still have some hard water buildup, I just don’t know of a shampoo that would eliminate it properly and not hurt my scalp in the process, it’s very frustrating. I really wish there were more options for people with allergies/sensitivity/skin conditions.

Being gentle!!! Yes. I had to switch hairstylists and when I was making a mental list of reasons why one of them was because she literally was ripping out handfuls of hair every appt (so every other month). She would brushed my wet hair out as soon as she rinsed off bleach 🙃 “so the toner is even” and she often would tease my hair before foiling so she was literally ripping through self made mats on my head it was painful and I saw her throw away handfuls of my hair. My hair got so thin over the 2 years she was my stylist and I’ve been with my new one for 6 months and after a good trim plus proper handling I can see my hair is starting to look denser.

Loreal has an allergen free hair care line, but i use normal skin care on my scalp. I had reactions to masking fragrance in a few scalp care products and just started using my normal glycolic toner on my scalp instead of the glycolic scalp mask i got, it worked better and my hair stays shiny for longer. Vanicream and vaseline for everything. If you have severe allergies get vanicream for shampoo and conditioner and use vaseline in place of a normal hair grease( it is the main ingredient and you will notice baby hairs look fuller)

It's very hard to find and most of the fragrance free arent for my texture. I just started using SEEN at ulta. Its finally soft and mositurixing enough. I developed occupational allergies after a decade and theres very little I can use now anyways. Especially redken/pureology because I worked with them for years. I miss how my hair looked and felt with other brands but my skin is no longer wrecked and mohair has stopped falling out. But fragrance and SLS free that work well are hard to find. Okay, I don't usually comment but there ARE a few options. Sally's bondbar "Bonding Booster," Ouidad Unbreak my Bond drops, and Epres are all fragrance free bond repair options. The Ouidad drops you can add to any product you already own and don't react to, so it's on my to-try list. I would die for a fragrance free serum without nut oils or sunflower family ingredients, but no go so far. SEEN is the brand that does a fragrance free serum and blow dry cream, but they use bisabolol in pretty much everything, so if you get rashes from ragweed family stuff, skip that one. On hair product application: I have super thin and fine hair and little of it- I struggle with severe chronic illness and thus- MAJOR hair loss 😭 My hair density is very slim, and I actually find it HARD to use leave in conditioners that are sprays, because it sprays right through the gaps between my hair strands and around my strands (if that makes sense). All of my hair barely fills a small pony tail… so I often have to spray leave in conditioners into my HANDS and apply it that way, or else none of my hair gets coated 🙏🏻💗 I never liked sprays anyway- I’d rather apply with my hands and make sure I’m getting 360 degree coverage!!! 💗💗💗 Love you, Abbey! You changed my hair and have helped me keep what I have left, healthy!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🥰

The air drying thing still doesn’t make sense to me. If the study says that hair loses sebum as the days go by between washes (and gets greasier in the process), but air drying makes the scalp lose sebum at a slower rate, then by this calculation, air drying makes hair LESS greasy than blowing… These comments are also on the reel you made about the study, would appreciate any clarification! 🫶🏼

I want to share my hair/scalp situation for those who maybe have a similar situation as me 🙌 I have fine hair and very sensitive scalp (+mild atopic dermatitis). My scalp used to almost always itch after washing and drying my hair, so long time ago i made a decision to go sulfate free. Eventually it helped a lot and i rarely had any scalp itchiness or dryness. Until now, not so long ago (since i did not experience any problems) i have decided to experiment with other popular shampoos that said to help others. So i have purchased a professional shampoo, and it ruined my hair so much… What happened was i used to go from washing my hair 1-2 times a week to washing it almost every day because it started to get super oily! I bought many other shampoos to help my (now to have become) oily scalp. All the clarifying shampoos, detox shampoos, clear -like shamoos that have no oils in them, NOTHING worked and my hair still stayed super oily. Spent so much money on these “profesional shampoos”, but the conclusion is they were too “strong” for my sensitive scalp that was actually dry 🙂 So i went back to sls free shampoos and instead of using “volumizing” or “clarifying” or anything that says to be for oily scalp, i switched those to more hydrating, moisturizing or restoring shampoos. I also oil my scalp before washing my hair with oils like jojoba or olive oil, i notice it helps to soothe my scalp and heal it. Hope that whoever is reading this can find a solution to their hair problem. In other cases always try going to a professional: doctor, dermatologist, hairdresser if nothing helps. Listening to just influencers has ruined my hair (and i’ve tried almost everything!), but turns out i needed to stop for a moment and look differently at the situation ❤ P.S. I love Abbey, so there is no hard feelings to her videos! 😅 I still use her recommendations and some products she mentions but for shampoos i have already found my favourite that actually works for my scalp condition😊

Abbey, I would love for you to do a video how you get your hair so shiny. Recently, it looks like you did a reset on your hair and it's been looking really shiny! I don't know if it's highlights, a mask, or treatment you've done. I really want my hair to be shinier. I try to take really good care of it, but sometimes when it comes to achieving the shine, I end up putting too much moisturizing products on the hair and that's not good either. I would love to know what you do to get your hair to look like that. And in general, you've been glowing.💖

Using products that are film forming has changed my hair for the better. So many curly lines this avoid this but using a deep cleansing shampoo with sulfates and a conditioner that provides a coating makes my hair look and feel the best. Breakage has stopped too. I have type 4 hair so this advice is universal (for me)

This is helpful. I've been watching you for a while and keep wanting to ask....How about us little older ladies (50) w/pixie gray hair? Hair is thin and since no pigment -- coarse texture and dry. Which is new for me. Scalp changed too, from oily to normal. Of course cabinet full of products for before gray that don't work now. I'm really having a difficult time. Can anyone help?

I have baby hairs coming in along my hair line filling the areas I lost hair over the last few years. So happy to see it 🙂

@@seabreeze4559 So for me at least I have made several changes. I use the coconut oil on my mids and ends, silk/satin pillow cases, microfiber towel for my hair, I'm A LOT more careful now while I'm working with my wet hair, minimizing heat, I have been using clarifying shampoo 1-2 times a week, and I have been using the bond repair shampoo/conditioner. Another big thing I've added over the last 2 months is using a scalp oil. That one I had to do a lot of research on before hand since I have fine hair. I do the method of using it before I shower and leaving it on for like 2 hrs before washing it out. That has helped me a lot too.

It’s so smart to learn the purpose of each ingredient to figure out what works best for you! I used to be a huge snob about drugstore shampoo, but my scalp is oily and I trust your recommendations… so I tried the Pantene Volume & Body Shampoo which includes SLS. It makes my hair look and feel amazing!! 🤩 Lesson learned! You can’t judge a shampoo by its price, but can judge it by its contents! (Pureology is still my #1, but Pantene is a close second, and it’s great to have a more affordable option in my rotation!) Thanks, Abbey! 🌸

Loved this. Thank you for sharing! I had no idea about air drying making your hair look greasier faster. I definitely notice that, but didn’t know why. I’m hoping you can do a video about the second half of your shower routine- conditioning and detangling. I have fine, thin hair that breaks easily and I feel like I lose so much hair in the shower! The best way I’ve found so far to detangle my hair is in the shower with a wide tooth comb while it has conditioner in it. I split my hair in half and start from the bottom and work my way up. I still lose a lot of hair, but less than if I try to detangle out of the shower. Would love your feedback! Thanks 😘 Ooh and maybe a video on how you style your hair? And what you ask form when you get haircuts? My hair is long like yours and I want it to look more like yours! 😍

I would love a video comparing the K18 peptide clarifying shampoo vs the Ouai detox shampoo. I've been using Ouai and I love it! I'm almost out though and I'm wondering if I should give K18 a try. Hopefully this will be in a video soon, love your videos! Most of the products i use are off your recommendations. I've been using Pureology hydrate line, deep conditioner, and leave in for almost 3 years now and never want to stop. I also started using Ouai because of your videos. I just picked up Briogeo scalp revival shampoo to try it out. After buying I looked through your videos and found out you liked it and recommend it too! Trying it out tonight, hope I love it! Thank you so much for making this video. It is very helpful and it makes sense. I have low porosity 1a hair. I thought the same way about air drying hair. My hair gets frizzy. I also have a smelly scalp after 2-3 days of not washing my hair. I think it is due wearing a microfiber towel on my head for 20-25mins. I am trying to do skincare and body care before hair care. I learned I need to shorten the time my hair is in the towel and blow dry my scalp sooner. I also learned about hair oiling. My hair ends would always get tons of split ends. Once I learned to use leave in conditioner after shower, use hair oil morning and night, and hair mask, it changed my hair! I no longer have all those awful split ends and it is slowly getting healthier.

Thanks for all the helpful tips! Curious to hear your insight on bleach - I’ve been reading one way to protect your hair before bleaching is to use coconut oil to coat the hair strand prior to your appointment. Would love to hear your thoughts/experience! Thanks Abby!
@Willowy13
@Willowy13 2 ай бұрын
Hair Buddha has videos on this. Coconut oil will reduce the potency of the bleach because it coats the hair reducing the contact of the bleach with the hair. This means the hair will have to be bleached twice if only one was originally needed.

Hi! I loved the video and I wanted to share some of my experience. On social media everyone is raving about squish to condish as a technique to apply conditioner and I used to do it on my 3a hair. I don’t like it, it doesn’t do much for my hair except getting conditioner on my scalp and even stripping off the henna I use to colour my hair. So I guess it’s true, everyone should try things that make sense and stick to the ones that work for them😊❤️

Thinking about Pantene label (volume instead of clarifying), I remembered what my cousin (she is a hair stylist) told me years ago - the most voluminous (hope that's a word in English haha) hair is the cleanest hair, so most Volume shampoos are just very good at cleansing. For example, at that time I used Loreal Professionel Volume shampoo, which had salicylic acid among the ingredients to boost the cleansing properties. And as someone with oily scalp and long and completely flat hair, I really appreciate this combo haha
